This is totally brutal. Rhythm, chords, all exactly done with push pull feel. This woman is just amazing. Spriritually augmented to the Krall degree. Not have any more words, just pure enjoyment.
I don't like Diana Krall (stay with me now), 'cause she's so damn accessible. Doesn't take the jazz elite to appreciate her. Seriously, there are very, very few newish, worthy interpretations of "A Train"-- it's all but impossible to sound fresh playing it-- but this one is fun, surprising, very musical and gratifying in a way that I really wasn't expecting. Her vocal hangs daringly away from the expected melody and rhythm in a way that is just right for a tune that is so overly familiar; her solo is audacious, and her comping is just right.
This is the most aggressive playing that I have heard from her. The percussive manner of playing reminds me of Duke Ellington. The ending reminds me of Count Basie. I simply love her vocal stylings. It is her own. There are flashes of earlier female singers. Accompanying oneself on the piano is not easy. Well done.
Diana Krall is on a class of her own as a singer. As a piano player he is in another galaxy. I remember my music teacher trying to explain to me about what "apoggiatura" was. To my humble knowledge which includes heaps of piano players, Diana Krall is the No. 1 master of apoggiatura, and swings as...
That's guitarist Dan Faehnle (Fan-lee). He was part of the Diana Krall quartet for three years and currently he’s the guitarist for ‘Pink Martini’ orchestra.

really think this is a stupid idea-Diana does not need Elvis for anything. He has a completely different style and world and it is great that they do not mix it at all.
why are these comments so stupid? Can't TH-cam create a filter to get rid of idiots? Or at least erase comments every week? Diana is a wonderful singer and band leader-but I would love for her to team up with a great horn player---why? Because it would add a little more funk/story/growl to her act. On the other hand, you have to admire her performances for what they are...
Realmente brillante en sus acordes, variación de ritmos, tonalidades y la interpretación del tema , mezclado con su apasionada voz, la lleva muy lejos en el escenario. De lo mejor hoy por hoy !!!
LOL! Who doesn't know this was a Strayhorn composition. Though some argue the lyrics were in fact written by Joya Merrill NOT Strayhorn. Would not surprise me as men often took credit for a woman's work back then.
Just so gooood!! And, I love how she has all the other musicians solo, and then gives the audience there names. I think Diana Krall will I hope by playing music for a long time to come, but is already a legend in her own time. I've enjoyed her so much along with the players she brings with her...just can't say enough good about her. And, yes she is a great, looking, woman, but that is not what makes her music great. She has integrity and character, not just looks.
Paul Ballenger You asked me 27 weeks ago if I know Diana Krall. No Paul I don't know her personally. I just saw your message tonight. Very sorry... I didn't intentionally ignore you. Peace
God her voice sounds so false, she can play but her tone is not as good as Anita O'Day, Julie London, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald. I know that's a "heavy" list but one of the consequences of having "good taste" is that you only like the best. Conclusion, if you think that DK is a good jazz singer you probably need to listen to more vocal jazz, especially the older stuff.
And you’re the orchestral leader 🎉 as Duke E was! The female counterpart to all male orchestra leaders we’ve all seen in the jazz business 😮! Ola Stockholm Sweden 😢!
Sorry .. the head is sacrosanct .. if u can’t sing it .. don’t embellish it . Krall is amazing but duke and Billy composed an amazing song .. sing the head if you can and then improvise the rest .. .. there is room. Don’t trash my comment .. it’s as hard song to sing .. if you can’t you can use a pentatonic scale to fake it
I love how she used the classic Count Basie ending, instead of the "A Train" ending, which of course is derived from this tune! Totally subverted my expectations.
Sam Brinsom,so you think you need to be American before you can be considered to a Jazz musician? What about Oscar Peterson? He is Canadian and Michael Buble too. If you ain't got soul I don't care what part of the Planet you are from ! Dick Tynan Dublin Ireland 2o2o
What's pointless and idiotic is responding to a comment that was made so long ago that I have no idea what you are responding to. However I can see a parallel between her and Michael Bolton ....there's an irritating false greatness there that each believe they themselves possess. They both have lots of talent, but you know, maybe its a humilty thing. And as far as hoping TH-cam will install idiot filters, all I can say is, be careful what you wish for.
beautiful...lindíssima...talentosa, magnífica cantante, com trejeitos labias do saudoso Elvis...até semelhante...pensei fosse filha...mas nao é...nota dez...
Why be critical of someone who plays the piano as well as she does; appreciate her talents and enjoy the performance. Roger Plafkin-Plafkin Farms, Ada, Michigan
Krall takes a legendary song and puts her signature to the piece. This is one of the best renditions of A-Train. Dave Brubeck, another jazz great, did a fantastic, out of this world version of A-Train in 1966.
Diana hangs in the groove like a swnging metronome. Ellington would have loved her. I still wonder how the hell a White, female Canadian could have ever acquired such a mastery of jazz piano and vocals. But I'm glad she did.

Can somebody explain why the announcer guy points out the song was not written by Duke? I'm finding it slightly disturbing even if it true. Duke made this song what it is imo.

Yes, she's brilliant! 😎

this genre will never end! this is music!!!!!
Volum
This makes all other music looks simple
Not only is Diana an amazing singer - she is a dynamite piano player. What chops ! She is the face of everything that is wonderful about jazz.
Love Diana! She makes it into a real foot-stomper.
That's guitarist Dan Faehnle (Fan-lee). He was part of the Diana Krall quartet for three years and currently he’s the guitarist for ‘Pink Martini’ orchestra.
A brilliant performer. Can't we simply listen to different versions of the same song without all the negative comments.
Diana, I love you, you're amazing, thank you for everything, your talent is out of this world!

Been in love with her work for over 30 years. Exceptionally talented musician/singer.
Me too. Been following her since she came on the scene. Never disappoints.

Guitar guy is great !
This is what you get when you have super talented musicians who respect the music, respect each other, and respect the listener. Fantastic!
Amazing ... love every note of it !
Have to say that the guitar man played a brutal impro !
Wish I was there !
I had to steal that guitar solo, the lick he plays over the ii V at 2:42 makes me smile every time
Who is the guitar player? no name given-
Ethan Ditthardt always came back to listen this solo
@@normanspurgeon5324 Dan Faehnle, she says his name right after the solo
Realmente brillante en sus acordes, variación de ritmos, tonalidades y la interpretación del tema , mezclado con su apasionada voz, la lleva muy lejos en el escenario. De lo mejor hoy por hoy !!!
For me the best version of this classic. Dian owns it !
That is some guitar solo - creates and just swings!!
Great guitar solo. I really liked it.
she have played with the best and learn . she has mastered "" Soul'' from the Best and made her own Style.
This woman just always rocks it. Amazing.
Lucky Elvis Costello, He has talent and Diana Krall,. Its a match made in music heaven.
What a voice she has its like sweet sweet honey.
Way muscular piano attack. Mrs. Costello doesn't throw like a girl.
I am hooked, addicted , zonked out by this killer trip on the A Train.
Oh I'm so in love with her... music, her playing. She's something else.
Dan Faehnle on guitar - amazing
Can you imagine a Costello/Krall concert ?
I'd pay $ to be there !
はじける様に弾くピアノ、歌い方.GOOD🤩🎼🎹大拍手。🙌
Words are inadequate not permitted - Chills only allowed.

Joya Sherrill
Helen Merrill
Who in the hell is the a..hole who didn't like it.
Super cover by Diana! Go Girl! Killer guitar also!..
How do you get to Harlem?---------------Yes indeed-----------------Take the "A" train!
Just so gooood!! And, I love how she has all the other musicians solo, and then gives the audience there names. When she coughs she sounds better than most singers.
Magnífica pianista, magnífica cantante!
Diana Krall is one of the greatest Jazz musicians/singers of all time. I think she is brilliant.
+Sheryl Goolsbee - Me 2
Paul Ballenger :-))
Paul Ballenger Do you know her personally?
+Sheryl Goolsbee What is she doing lately and where? And after he, who? And Buble? Or is this the end of the line for this genre?
Paul Ballenger You asked me 27 weeks ago if I know Diana Krall. No Paul I don't know her personally. I just saw your message tonight. Very sorry... I didn't intentionally ignore you. Peace
This is a swinging rendition of this jazz tune. Diana is one of my favorite jazz musicians.
She and they are all AMAZING, but I remain in awe of the bass players who can play like that without the benefit of frets!!!! Jazz is just jazzmazing!
Pure class, pure woman, pure Lady!
You’re doing this A-train tune like Duke Ellington 😮, himself! Good Diana 😊! Ola Stockholm Sweden 2:15 !
God her voice sounds so false, she can play but her tone is not as good as Anita O'Day, Julie London, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald. Clase y elegancia .
......una maravilla
Krol means in Polish language "king"
Diana Krall said that her grandmam was Polish
And you’re the orchestral leader 🎉 as Duke E was! The female counterpart to all male orchestra leaders we’ve all seen in the jazz business 😮! Ola Stockholm Sweden 😢!

Please, we need more people like her!
I love how she used the classic Count Basie ending, instead of the "A Train" ending, which of course is derived from this tune! Totally subverted my expectations.
L'incisività degli strumentisti durante gli assoli è qualcosa di stupendo!
This lady has the precise feelings necessary for playing jazz. Remarkable, outstanding,
considering she hails from another country.
Why Adele is the star? Because the media is full of mediocre employees
Condescending intro ... To a really great jazz musician, Dame Krall.
Esta es de la época en que Diana Krall tocaba jazz y parecía disfrutar con ello.
This intro is swinging sophisticatedly, like Basie.
What's pointless and idiotic is responding to a comment that was made so long ago that I have no idea what you are responding to. Effervescent, original, spot on. Sweet.
Amazing! A great performance . Enjoyed that.
What a fantastic performance!!!!! So inspirational!
Fantastic. Diana Krall rocks.
I dont like the way she sings it :(
Piano playing is on point, though
Technically correct.. but dull. Lacks a certain Zazz. Awful.
She crushed it.
And BTW her band is kick ass too.
beautiful...lindíssima...talentosa, magnífica cantante, com trejeitos labias do saudoso Elvis...até semelhante...pensei fosse filha...mas nao é...nota dez...
she does well on piano "on fingertips", so that's an example in which she had better NOT sing and only play
Why be critical of someone who plays the piano as well as she does; appreciate her talents and enjoy the performance.
Roger Plafkin-Plafkin Farms, Ada, Michigan
I don't think Elvis has anything at all to do with this track-can't you write about her music for what it is?
Talented no matter where she is from I love her smirky smile!
fantásticos! Amo!
fine guitar player too, very tasty!

Bolton has great tone...but little no soul...
this is a pointless comment...What does Michael Bolton have to do with anything?
Absolutely love Diana kralls version of this song
Absolutely stunning. What a woman !
How the hell does the guitarist's guitar not create any feedback ?
Krall takes a legendary song and puts her signature to the piece. This is one of the best renditions of A-Train.
Dave Brubeck, another jazz great, did a fantastic, out of this world version of A-Train in 1966.
Diana could be Ronda Rousey's sister.
Diana hangs in the groove like a swnging metronome. Ellington would have loved her. I still wonder how the hell a White, female Canadian could have ever acquired such a mastery of jazz piano and vocals. But I'm glad she did.
one of the best Jazz guitar riffs.
i like the piano more than her vocals.hmm
Me too
thank you for pointing that out :)
I agree too. This is because of her voice timbre. Little she can do with that.
Love her singing!
Right 😂😂
Her delivery adds an urban kind of vibe, a freshness to the jazz genre, it's... refreshing.
Take The Frome Train, all the way to Cathrine hill
@exjazzbassbaz...He's also the guitarist for Pink Martini.
It is cool!
She and her friends inspire me.
quite amazing. Its always a risk trying to improve on a king of jazz: but she's good.
idola total..!!!!
Géniale Diana !
She and the rhythm group play in two different tempi. How can't she realize?
Fantastic !!!
... con Diana, es algo más
que jazz, ...
Jorge Alfredo Gonzalez Gonzalez ,se diría que trae el JAZZ en las venas ¿..
I think I have to agree here. People have mentioned her numerous times in music circles, talking her up quite a bit. I think her singing is a bit too monotonous for what I like to hear.
Dan?? on guitar.some player that guy..
I get lost in this, it's so fun
Her versions of jazz standards are wonderful. She sings them in a very modern, non-caberet style. Caberet-style singing really annoy me.
Can somebody explain why the announcer guy points out the song was not written by Duke? I'm finding it slightly disturbing even if it true. Duke made this song what it is imo.
Have you ever heard her sing " Alone again Naturally" ? by Gilbert O'Sullivan. Beautiful voice. And this I just love thanks for uploading :-)
