I don't think so. Now not every viking had a sword, just the wealthiest. The others fought with axes, spears and some of them were even good archers. The best swords, that had the name Ulfberth etched into them, were made from Damascus Steel. Not the wavy one but normal steel purchased in Damascus. Who actually made the swords, and where, is unknown.
This video says they had more sofistication than believed and I give you that, but it's presented like showing their invenctions! Combes? Really?? Certainly they did not invented the combs!! As interesting this video is to understand their sophisticated lifestyle, there are few inventions or notable inventions. But they did invented things. For example the metallurgic folding process of metals, with even more layers than japanese katanas or later damascus that creates high carbon content steel (metal was imported from the east and worked afterwards) This method was incredibly advanced and is barely mentioned in the sword section. They certainly had an advanced society with brilliant minds and they were not the mere brutes presented in movies. I lived in Sweden 1 year and even now days scandinavian people are really organised and clever people generally speaking of course.
To me with a love of peaceful multiculturalism the Viking Northmen of France and Netherlands with the help of the Dutch created the wind mill with Thor's grind stone and a long ship sail powered by the wind from Thor's billow.
I didn't know about the rudimentary skates, but didn't the ancient Norwegians (maybe even as far back as the Vikings) also invent skis?
"Nefetiful" is spelled "Hnefatafl".
The best viking swords came from monasteries in France...
From Täby Svealand
