Going through Gen Chem I in college while a pandemic is going on has been really hard, but you truly have helped me out so much! Thank you for doing what you do!
You have to already know the material for college. Learning in middle school and high school is preparation. Gen chem in college is a lot more to know.
Seriously, like... I stress out so much trying to digest the info in this online Chem class, then I find your videos and the material is suddenly so easy. These tutor videos help SO MUCH. I got a B+ on my midterm, gearing up for at least that on the final in a couple weeks. If it wasn't for you, I would've had to drop out of this class and second-guess my dream of grad school. Thank you so much Melissa.
You're a great resource to the students of the world. I'm a mature learner. All my life I thought that math and science was always going to be out of reach until I realized that I was actually struggling with ADD. You have such a clear voice and teach with understanding and Melissa echoes my thoughts frequently. It also helps that you're on TH-cam as I can pause and replay on demand. Thank you so much. The world runs at such a fast pace at this age but you make it possible to learn.
I have been sick for over a week now (missing all classes) and my teacher just told me I have to take an exam tmr, you are going to be the only reason I pass. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
this concept was a little harder to grasp but finally on the last example it started clicking thank you for not just stopping at 3 examples besides everything else of course
Thank you SO much for this video! I'm taking a summer course and was expected to do this on a homework assignment without it even being explained. You're a lifesaver!
This video is amazing and it certainly makes you appreciate the genius of the people that created the periodic table. Thank you so much for teaching this.
Please do more and more videos like this. It's nice to see it in this format, makes videos feel more human!!! You are awesome and I hope you help us future biologists/chemists/engineers become better!
Melissa yes i got it especially writing the electron configuration of each element it was confusing in the beginning but as you walked as through with examples the confusion was gone. Thank you :)
Thank you sooooo much for posting this tutoring session! We began covering this yesterday with zero visual aids besides prof pointing to the periodic table and a mishmash of writing on a white board. This is EXACTLY what I needed...I went from sad grumbling to interested with just one video. YES!
My teacher taught this in class and I was clueless. Watching this video just made everything so clear. Thanks Melissa for what you do. You are helping a lot of people struggling with chemistry ✨ thanks
It helps so much to watch you teach this to a student, so many questions I had she asked and then you clarified on. So helpful, thank you for providing these videos
Oh my god! The counting trick was what put it all together for me!! It makes so much sense that the S,P, and D blocks would only have as many as you count. I cannot believe my chem book didn't say anything like this thank you so much.
Wow this is so beautiful how she explained everything and I’ve been fighting to understand that thing for couple weeks and now I got it. Thanks to you beautiful lady
I am so glad I found these videos:) I come to your channel after my chem class to help me unpack and digest what we did in class. I don't feel terrified and stressed out like I usually do when I go to office hours or get tutoring😅 This format is great, Thank you for this!!!
Great teaching style, it clicked for me. Im just a self curious mind and find it interesting that 56 has always been my favorite number and that I got here while trying to understand more about rare earth's
You don’t know how much this video means to me. I was feeling so discouraged after my awful first grade on a college chem exam, and the other explanations on TH-cam were so unhelpful honestly. It feels like you’re speaking my language! Bless women in STEM
I've been trying to self study for alevels. The videos for electronic configuration explanation for the d block part always freaked me out. Your n-1,n-2 explanation solved my confusions in an instant. I usually use Khan Academy and Organic Chemistry tutor, but from now on I will also be visiting your channel as well.
Thank you so much for making these videos. It is extremely helpful, and the way that you build concepts have provided me with deeper understanding of the content. I am incredibly GRATEFUL 💘
thank you so much for this video :-). Normally we would be given with the right-triangle-like structure of the electric configuration to make it easier, but I never really knew where or how it became like that not until you explained the system by using the periodic table. Thank you very much!
Thank god I found this, in my class (my teacher is smart but he's the kind of smart where he expects you to just understand whenever he says something lol.not very helpful) we learned this but my teacher just put the 1s and so on on the board and was like "this is how its supposed to be" and then just starts putting arrows as electrons and being like "alright cool, i think we got it" and i didnt get it xD He didnt mention the periodic table twice (meaning he mentioned it once to tell us how to count the electrons and thats it. We did not learn this trick!). So thank you :'-)
hi melissa!!! i love your videos, they have been so helpful. is there any way you can post a picture of a blank periodic table with your colors and annotations? i love the way you organize it and make it look seamless, it would be great
You teach chemistry as you’re singing poetry using your beautiful hands! Lol thank you so much for your time and efforts to make things easy. You sound familiar to as if I met you before 💕
This was so well explained and after a week of complete confusion and many classmates, videos and my teacher trying to explain it, I finally get it thanks to you! I do have two questions though: 1. on your period table you have 57 to 70 and 89 to 102 as the f block, but on every other one i have seen on google, they have 58 to 71 and 90 to 103 as the f block... does that matter? 2. I tried doing gold (Au) the way you explainedit and ended up with (Xe) 6s2 4f10 5d9 but then when i checked the answer it said (Xe) 4f14 5d10 6s1, which completely confuses me as it doesnt make sense in the way you explained it.
Au is an exception so it has slightly different properties and then, therefore, a different configuration...I feel that she does a really good job explaining the basics of the material, however, most profs ask much more complex questions, just make sure you don't rely totally on this video.
Going through Gen Chem I in college while a pandemic is going on has been really hard, but you truly have helped me out so much! Thank you for doing what you do!
agreed! this quarter's been tough
You have to already know the material for college. Learning in middle school and high school is preparation. Gen chem in college is a lot more to know.
You literally saved my life from this hard topic. THANK YOU!

I have been sick for over a week now (missing all classes) and my teacher just told me I have to take an exam tmr, you are going to be the only reason I pass. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I'm an engineer taking material science and never learned how to do these. Thanks so much for the video it really helped!
this concept was a little harder to grasp but finally on the last example it started clicking thank you for not just stopping at 3 examples besides everything else of course
I've been confused in my chem class and this just took a load of stress off of my back, thank you so much!!

Melissa yes i got it especially writing the electron configuration of each element it was confusing in the beginning but as you walked as through with examples the confusion was gone. Thank you :)
Melissa really removed the stress from these complex concepts.

Taking O chem right now and I definitely needed a refresher on Electron Configuration, you posted at a perfect time😩
My teacher taught this in class and I was clueless. Watching this video just made everything so clear. Thanks Melissa for what you do. You are helping a lot of people struggling with chemistry ✨ thanks

Tomorrow is my chem exam and I just need something new to review my studying and actually this made me understand it even better. Thank you 🙏
No one is explaining this clear, thank god for making this video
I learned from watching the videos over and over. Until I absorbed the material. Thank you very much Melissa.
This is amazing. I really enjoy it and it makes my concept clear. It feels like I am in the physical classroom.
This is the only video that makes me understand electron configuration. Thank God for you.
OMG!!! we have a seatwork tomorrow in chemistry, you're helping me a lot!! thankies so much
went through gen chem without properly learning this now this will prepare me for mcat please do more gen chem videos
Oh my god! The counting trick was what put it all together for me!! It makes so much sense that the S,P, and D blocks would only have as many as you count. I cannot believe my chem book didn't say anything like this thank you so much.
I print out my power points and look you up. I was so lost until I found you. OMG you explain things so simple. I love you. lol

Great video. My periodic table shows element 57 is in the D block though and not the F block.

This video is really helping me a lot, thank you. I did not understand a thing my teacher was saying today.😂😂
Are Lanthanum and Actinium part of the d block or is it Lutetium and Lawrencium? I've seen it more with the former.
she never answers this question :( save us!
