Brilliant, I did this in 2018 riding on my own but wife came then 2019 with a mate, broke a bone in my hand in a similar place you binned it not long after the snow, want to do a few more and improve on my miserable time, you did good to clear it more or less in one, I had to stop in the forest for 10 seconds to get cramp out my feet .
It's a bit of a mad one as we know, the problem this year although I missed the start which I was gutted about was the snow was that soft it was like riding through treacle, total slush, total shite. They put the ebikes before us and the women before them so by the time we went down the snow was absolutely ruined although by all accounts it wasn't that great to begin with. I said I would only do it the once for the experience but now keep thinking I need to do it again for the mass start. Too many other great locations to ride without doing the same place twice although I've been to Finale a couple of times 🙄
I know what you mean, it was slush when I did it, but since buying a eMTB I've got my mojo back to do more riding, hence came across your channel as I go up the peaks a fare bit on my days off but always done the same loops, been fun I must admit using goole maps and a bit of my limited knowage of area to link your routes. @@mtbnorthwestengland
Yeah do it mate, go. I we t this year for the first time but a mishap getting off the gondala at the top buggered my ankke so i didnt get to do the race. Socim going back next year to show it whos boss. Blinding ride from you, too, considering the rib pain 👍
Were you getting off the Gondola the morning of the race or prior, that would have been unlucky if you did all that frickin queuing and then didn't get to race. At least I started but the fact I was at the back knocked the stuffing out of me from the get go. I didn't do too bad but you kind of knew you weren't going to get a decent finish. May go back, see how the next 6 months pan out..... cheers
@mtbnorthwestengland yep, on race day. So 6 months of fitness training and learning bike skills was almost wasted. Glad i got a week of good riding in before that happened. Maybe see you out there next year?

I had a start just like that last year, them starting the race before the last lift has got to the line up. It costs a lot of money for us to get out there... also rans we might be but it's deeply unfair. Not our fault!. As you say, fuming. It's a real shame because I love Mega and it's a well organised week otherwise. Well done for cracking on with it though, good hunting in the 2nd half. 👍
@@Leviathanical thanks for the sympathetic comments. As you say it costs a lot and also takes a day travelling each way. I was well chuffed I got in the mass start only for them to fire the starting gun before I got there. For me somebody should be taken to account that the race should have started at 9.30 and they started the race say 10.30 which is p!ss poor planning pretty much exactly when I got off the top gondola. The story goes that they had to set the race off because the snow was so soft and they didn't want it to melt anymore. Like an extra 5-10 mins would have made all the difference after being an hour late when everybody had not arrived. I would have felt a bit better about it if there was somebody at the top station saying get your ass down to the start line they will be going anytime now 🤷♂
