I don’t really see why it should be a problem even today. None of the other reactor’s seem to have a problem with it, just that it’s scary or disturbing. It’s not like the song is advocating any of the things it describes. There are hit songs today that are far more disturbing.

I don't think people will make a big deal of this song or worry about what a reactor says about it because we've become almost immune to all the prophesies and dire warnings about the future from endless media and movies. So much more information and discoveries have come along since, and some of the concepts in this have become reality.

It's a very forward looking song, with a lot of scope to it. And the idea someone had to run bits of "Metropolis" in the background was GENIUS. I've seen the video several times and it goes so well with the eerie feeling of the song.
It's a very basic scifi thing, to look ahead and wonder what will be.

I'm truly baffled by your reaction. It is simply a song talking about humanity and a potential future if we allow ourselves to self-destruct or lose our freedom to technology. The most important lines have to do with humans destroying and using up all the resources and not caring for this planet we live on or giving back to allow for future generations to live.

The song was a little unsettling, but very well received. Most of us were concerned of the direction Humanity was heading.
And most everything mentioned already existed or was in the beginning of development. Many of us never paid much attention to the dates, likely just given for song continuity.
We knew most would likely take place ( be finalized) within the next 50 years.
If you start all the dates out with the first two numerals being replaced with 20 it's right there.

    Question
What age group is your largest audience?
And why worry about what somebody thinks?
Only thoughts that matters is your personal thoughts. It's called personal individuality. Do not let the architects of Destruction take that away, and make you part of the collective. That goal is almost complete and you will no longer have a voice or thought that is your own. If your generation doesn't start resisting and grow a pair you will have no future. That's what the song is actually trying say.
Don't give up your Humanity to the machine.
Learn your history the sensitive ones are the ones that walk to their own demise.
And that's right around the corner.
    Considering your reaction here....
There was another popular song a couple years later considered one of the most disturbing songs ever. It charted 36 on Billboard
The song is called DOA and it is by the band Blood Work
It was played on the radio often.
I only know one radio station that would play it today because of sensitivity.
Man your generation is missing out because you allowed manipulation. Although I've noticed there is a Awakening. Hopefully you're part of it.

All of the video that is embedded into this song if from the movie Metropolis made in 1927 in Germany. It was originally black and white and was a silent movie, so the script is done in subtitles. Even back in 1927 it was known where humanity was going. Forty-two years latter lyrics but to song reinforced the ideal and then in 2015 the prophetic song and movie were merged together. It started nearly 100 years ago.

When this first came out, I considered this a protest song. As it talks about a dystopian society. And the video clips from the silent film, "Metropolis" is just icing on the cake. That movie fits this song. As the song appeared to me and some others I knew at the time. to talk about technology controlled by the establishment so that the establishment could control you. What some of us feared back then was the loss of freedom in the future. And this song fed into those fears.

I don't think there was controversy, was there? I mean, I was only ten or so at the time, but even as young people we were aware of books like 'Brave New World' and '1984', and 'Planet of the Apes' was out. The Cuban missile crisis wasn't that long before. We all knew about what might happen in the future.
I don't understand what it is that makes you worried, makes you think it will be blocked. This is a stone cold classic. I really don't understand why you say it'd be a problem coming out today . . . unless it's because it would show up much of today's music as shallow stuff. Take the lyrics and compare to anything being released today.
Me, I was always more of an optimist about the future, more Arthur C Clarke than George Orwell.
As the Doctor says to Rose in 'The End of the World':
"You lot, you spend all your time thinking about dying, like you're going to get killed by eggs or beef or global warming or asteroids. But you never take time to imagine the impossible, that maybe you survive." (Doctor Who, Series 1, Episode 2.)
If you can't say what you think about this now, that's a terrible thing.

I think this needs to be placed in the context of the times, 1969. Everything was centered on the race to the moon. Movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey had come out the year before. The Apollo moon missions were finally going to land on the moon. The country was turning to the future. But, what was that future going to be?

The pictures the video creator used are even much older. They're from the German dystopian silent film "Metropolis" from 1927 (!). I've seen it on TH-cam a few weeks ago and I was shocked how much it resembles today's society. It contains mad scientists, a two class society and even something like a transhuman/AI evil being created by scientists.

It is a bit dark but most don't see it has some hopeful notes. The fact they reference future millennia gives you a feel that humankind may still be here. It gives thoughts to how much machines may be a part of our future (causing debilitating atrophy of human bodies) as well as no need for family connections to continue our species. The damage to the Earth by humans has also taken censure. I remember when this song was released and it did cause a lot of thinking and debate. It provokes thought.

The video (German film, Metropolis) is not connected to the song. I think the imagery unfairly makes it weird. To us old'ns that only heard it on the radio the song is much bigger and more prophetic than the "parts bin" imagery. If you listen to it as audio only, the predictions are kinda spooky and prescient.

Another similar past, present and future Fan made video is one to Black Sabbath's -- War Pigs. This Fan made video merging the song with the below German short reminds me of this Fan made video Ace just viewed. War Pigs is a anti-war song and more with hopefully no prophecy yet to repeat.

Though uncredited, the video used in the song is from a 2009 German short also on TH-cam called - Motherland | Kurzfilm (2009).

The images are just clips from the old 1920's movie "Metropolis," and have no direct connection with the song, although the song & movie were both about roughly the same thing. Not sure what you think you hear in the lyrics, but it's about mankind being slowly replaced by it's own technology, nothing all that controversial or shocking about it even today.

The lyrics part I like the most is: "some machine's doin' that for you!" < that's the timeline we are actually are living in!

I was a sophomore in high school when this song came out. I thought it was great then and still love it, musically and for the message.
Think about just where we are now as a human race, where we were a thousand years ago and where we might be a thousand years from now?
That's the purpose of the song, to promote thoughts. The 60s was not a time where people were obsessed about themselves, about every little thing that happened in their life, about what people thought about them on tiktok. People were genuinely concerned about the problems we dealt with day today, about ending racism about women's rights, about the Cold War. We had bigger fish to fry back then. As much as I love the internet and social media, I hate what it's turned the younger generations into in some ways. Is an INFLUENCER really contributing much positivity in the king run, or is it really about their popularity?
IMO, That's all the song writer was doing, trying to make people think about how humans affect each other & the world we live in and On..
The artist's interpretation is just that.. his thoughts . I have always been a fan and a student of science fiction. I've read as many books as I can find going back to the very earliest science fiction books such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. I found them too be absolute commentaries on how society has progressed over the centuries and often scarily close to predicting the future.
This song is no different.. Isn't it true that you can pick your child from a test tube today?
I happen to agree with the religious sentiments too but some people could just take them as allegory.
In the end, the moral of the story is the human race is going to be exactly what you me and everyone else on this planet right this second makes of it. What are we passing on to our children and our grandchildren and those who will follow us?

There are no things "not to talk about". If they are things (issues) then we talk about it, fix it and move on. This song (and the later video) describes much of the ethical issues regarding our technologies.

Most of the lyrics refer to science fiction tropes and plot elements; at least, that's how I've always viewed the song.
The dates for each "prediction" are irrelevant, as many are already coming true -- our reliance on machines to do our work, test tube babies, etc. Rather, the overall intent, in my opinion, is to illustrate mankind's indifference to our overall outlook on life ... and the price we'll eventually have to pay for our selfishness and greed.
