Bolo, my Dude! You've been dropping gold nuggets of knowledge and information as of late, and I agree with your thought process 100%. However, I find that the younger generations are built different in terms of taking solid advice to heart from an O.G. Almost like the example you made about flipping a MC Lyte idea for a beat and the young guns (youngon's... young ones) were not trying to hear you out until shown the concept. I'm now 56, and been a DJ/Producer since the mid 80's. I keep telling them that the game doesn't change, it rewinds with different players, rules and tactics. Most of them, not all, don't believe the stove is hot that I've touched in the past. So they have to get burned before believing. Just the same, you are keeping it real. Great content, Bro!!!
You're looked at with a different level of respect when you've built an artist up too. When people look at Artist X & point to you as the one responsible for their sound it goes a long way
In this day and age, you can lock in with other producers who are successful. To be honest, the formula of what is a successful "producer", is so convoluted that it's up for interpretation. You can just be a TikTok producer using A.I vocals and have that song go viral and that's considered successful
Such a good topic. As an event producer, I work with DJs on my team and I’m happy when I can get them work. Thank you for this. Quick note-the thumbnail of your video says “and artist” instead of “an artist.”
I remember Bryan-Michael Cox saying the same thing in an interview a long time ago. That’s not a bad thing. I mean it would be nice to jump str8 to the majors like some producers such as BMC, or Darkchild but we in a different time.
Eh, not really. The fastest way producers can become successful is to make their own records. Artists can be difficult to work with and none want your success as badly as you do.
