I believe those are Burstbucker Pro humbuckers. 1,2, and 3 have alnico ii magnets, Pro's have alnico v. The #1 and #2 designation on the labels is confusing, but I still think they're the Pro version.
You are 100% correct. I've switched to the lower power Burstbuckers because of the AlNiCo II magnets. Also, the original Burstbuckers utilize the unbalanced coils/bobbins. The screw pole bobbin has about 200 less winds than the slug bobbin, the result of this imbalance produces a slightly nasal/honk tone. I've done my best searching reverb to find the earliest unpotted Burstbuckers and have installed them in all three of my LP Guitars.
Typically the vintage ABR-1 bridge has the saddle intonation screws facing the neck while the modern Nashville bridge saddle screws face the stop-bar tailpiece. That said, if you run out of saddle travel needed to correctly intonate the guitar wither type of bridge can be flipped around and used to good effect. Purists however prefer the ABR-1 Bridge's saddle screws facing the neck as it was installed at the factory.

I just picked up 3 Gibson guitars in the last few weeks. They were from different sources and all of them just happen to be from 2005. A black SG standard w/ 50's neck, a Honey burst Les Paul Classic w/ 60's neck and a Heritage Cherry Burst Les Paul Standard which looks very similar to this guitar.

I’ve got an ‘04 Std and it’s nice. I had to change the pickups though as the stock ones were terrible. Either far too dark and muddy or too shrill. Had the bones of a decent guitar.
I know this is probably a crime somehow but I would love to here that thing in a lower tuning with distortion. That had some unexpectedly satisfying crunch.
9 hole weight relief on a 12 pound guitar is not good wood no matter how you look at it. The top is beautiful but expensive guitars like this one that use “better woods” are going to be lighter. I’d sooner call the 60’s and 50’s standard collection that are non weight relieved and weigh 8 to 11 pounds better wood guitars than this one.
Got a Standard from the same era, 60's neck, amazing guitar. I changed that bridge pickup with a DiMarzio Norton, as it was too bright for my liking. Neck pickup instead is amazing.
can you still buy thoose kind of machine heads in chrome ? and can you switch them out with the ones they put on modern gibson les paul, i have a studio from 2012
you can install them with conversion bushings - but you'll always be left with a big ring impressions around the tuner from the washers on the modern tuners. Not worth it
Sweet flame mahogany! I lucked out with my Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute two piece mahogany body having insane flame top and bottom and well matched between pieces too. Most Special Tributes are very plain grain mahogany. Even the maple neck has flame. Not sure how wood that pretty ended up on my Special Tribute, the 'budget' Gibson. Maybe it was built for someone special but accidentally got lost in the shuffle, it sat in some warehouse for two years before I got it.
A 50's neck at 0.85? The profile measures exactly like my Standard 60's! Edit: and I have to disagree with your assessment about flame tops not existing on Standards today like the one in the video. You yourself premiered a Standard 60's with a top just as flamed if not more. Mine is easily just as flamed as this.
The neck profiles between GIBSON USA and the Custom Shop are completely different and don't correlate at all. The Custom Shop Profiles use historically driven specs while the GIBSON USA neck profiles seem to be determined more by the Gibson Marketing Department.
Good lord, i dont know if thats the camera adding to the effect but that back figuring looks incredible! Also off topic but please consider doing an Alpine Burst SigT! That was the sweetest finish i have ever seen on a Les Paul! Maybe one day Gibson will bring them back, they were also Tone Monsters!
I have the 50s style standard vintage sunburst limited edition!! I think it's 2005 or early 2006 no weight relief! It's a beauty!! Bought it 1799e bstock from thomman!!! Best guitar I've ever had!
I didn’t know about Les Paul chambering until now 😂 when I built my Les Paul replica, all I did was carve out the spots for the cables, pickups, switch and pots 😂
I've a 2003 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus 50 neck in Honey Burst wirh flame maple top that has a bit of flame on the mahogany as well although not as much as this one and weighs 4.5 kg. It's an excellent guitar, very well built and finished, very resonant and with an exaggerated sustain, it looks like a bell hehe Gibson in 2002 made some changes to the more historically correct Les Paul Standard like 50 and 60 neck, nickel hardware, Alnico 2 Burstbuckers 1 and 2... there is a lot of info on the internet. This "era" goes from 2002 to 2006 that began with the chambered and is considered the best Standard that Gibson made in the last 20 years...
My '76 Deluxe looks very much like the '70s guitar shown at the end. At the time I was very happy to have a cherry burst LP. But the coloring on my '12 Traditional is so much better, that the '76 now looks like just a "red and yellow" guitar. Gibson may be guilty of putting shoddy parts on their guitars (I've experienced it), but they sure got the coloring right since 1987 or so.
trogly i know you go above and beyond to document everything about the guitars that pass through your hands, its a lil extra work but could you please convert the date stamp in post to the actual day??? like for this one the 153rd day of 2005 was thursday june 2nd. you might just have someone find a birthday guitar they otherwise might not have
That maple top would look so much better had the grain been turned 90 degrees. The grain is running vertically (quarter sawn) which means the rays are looking stretched which is a look I don't really like, it makes for very stable necks, but it doesn't looks as good.
Gibson should pay Trogly, because he's the only person that has made me slightly understand Gibson's pricing. This guy makes even the haters have a bit of understanding towards the brand. On the flip side, Trogly is definitely a fan boy and tries to justify the brand and price many times. I can see how some people hate on him but I don't share that hate. Anyways, Gibson should definitely give him money haha
That type of figured mahogany seems pretty common on Eastman guitars. I have one of their acoustics with a ridiculous flamed mahogany back and I’ve seen it on a number of their solid bodies. However, I am pretty sure all their solid bodies are required to weight less than 8.5 lbs to ship. Perhaps lighter heavily flamed mahogany is more common in Asia?
Or maybe figured wood gets hyped up in American and European markets to justify premium pricing If I was a manufacturer I’d probably do the same unless the market didn’t care; maybe they don’t care about fancy wood in Asia
I'm a 90's guy. 6 of my 9 Gibsons are from then & the other 3 were bought from the Custom Shop. Personally, I very much doubt I'd buy a Gibson USA model made after 2006 but that's just me, coz I don't dig the weight relief. I just don't think they sound as good & I'm definitely a 'pickguard off' guy (unless it's a LPC). Oh & I don't dig cherry sunburst either.
There is a guy selling one these in my area. Only his has the pickguard on it. Even has the “50s neck” sticker on the truss rod. It’s going for $1,200. Is that a good price ???
I swear you said in a video like a week ago you don't like the pick guard installed . Not to nit pick. I like the channel. Although it makes Gibson more of a collectable then a musicians instrument. Ultimately driving prices up.
That's the best looking lp standard I've seen so far. My favorite era is the 2014 standards, mainly because of the push pull knobs, weight relief and triple A tops.

It's not a crime...
I own a 2005 Standard Faded with a super unique top! Fantastic guitar!
That Les Paul is a real beauty! My 2016 Les Paul Standard T has the same Flame top like yours and but in a Ice Tea burst. SWEET!
Got a Standard from the same era, 60's neck, amazing guitar. I changed that bridge pickup with a DiMarzio Norton, as it was too bright for my liking. Neck pickup instead is amazing.
Your lead chops are sounding really good these days. Keep up the work man
can you still buy thoose kind of machine heads in chrome ? and can you switch them out with the ones they put on modern gibson les paul, i have a studio from 2012
you can install them with conversion bushings - but you'll always be left with a big ring impressions around the tuner from the washers on the modern tuners. Not worth it
Are these the ones with the 1960 on the pick guards ?
No, those are classics
Sweet flame mahogany! I lucked out with my Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute two piece mahogany body having insane flame top and bottom and well matched between pieces too. Most Special Tributes are very plain grain mahogany. Even the maple neck has flame. Not sure how wood that pretty ended up on my Special Tribute, the 'budget' Gibson. Maybe it was built for someone special but accidentally got lost in the shuffle, it sat in some warehouse for two years before I got it.
This sounds fantastic. What pickups came in the 05 studios?
Should be 490/498t depending on the run
A 50's neck at 0.85? The profile measures exactly like my Standard 60's! Edit: and I have to disagree with your assessment about flame tops not existing on Standards today like the one in the video. You yourself premiered a Standard 60's with a top just as flamed if not more. Mine is easily just as flamed as this.
The neck profiles between GIBSON USA and the Custom Shop are completely different and don't correlate at all.
The Custom Shop Profiles use historically driven specs while the GIBSON USA neck profiles seem to be determined more by the Gibson Marketing Department.
@@hkguitar1984 I did not know this at all. Very interesting, thanks.
What's wrong with the mid/late nineties Standards Trogly?
Love my 05 Standard, great guitar. Mine came with BB Pros. Aren't the alnico Vs BB Pros?
Good lord, i dont know if thats the camera adding to the effect but that back figuring looks incredible! Also off topic but please consider doing an Alpine Burst SigT! That was the sweetest finish i have ever seen on a Les Paul! Maybe one day Gibson will bring them back, they were also Tone Monsters!
This video actually does a rather poor job showing how awesome this back is
@@Trog Im drooling, it looks almost Holographic!
I have a 2003 classic goldtop that’s flamed on the back and sides. Very cool
Beautiful back just like the early 2000's standard plus I sold you last year! Great guitars from that era.
Never getting rid of my 05 LP or my 04 LP Studio they're both great
I have the 50s style standard vintage sunburst limited edition!! I think it's 2005 or early 2006 no weight relief! It's a beauty!! Bought it 1799e bstock from thomman!!! Best guitar I've ever had!
Have done a review of the 2021 epiphone customs?
I didn’t know about Les Paul chambering until now 😂 when I built my Les Paul replica, all I did was carve out the spots for the cables, pickups, switch and pots 😂
I've a 2003 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus 50 neck in Honey Burst wirh flame maple top that has a bit of flame on the mahogany as well although not as much as this one and weighs 4.5 kg. It's an excellent guitar, very well built and finished, very resonant and with an exaggerated sustain, it looks like a bell hehe
Gibson in 2002 made some changes to the more historically correct Les Paul Standard like 50 and 60 neck, nickel hardware, Alnico 2 Burstbuckers 1 and 2... there is a lot of info on the internet.
This "era" goes from 2002 to 2006 that began with the chambered and is considered the best Standard that Gibson made in the last 20 years...
Nice guitar. Love the bushing tuners. And yeah, make the pickguard optional. The back and sides are amazing. That is some poppin' mahogany.
i’d love that type of figuring on a maple top
curious why that one is top wrapped?
Yay Trog!!
I love when you take shit apart and show us the insides
Absolutely beautiful Les Paul!
I’m personally an early 80’s Norlin era custom and the new Originals type guy. The new Originals are just amazing guitars!
Or maybe figured wood gets hyped up in American and European markets to justify premium pricing
If I was a manufacturer I’d probably do the same unless the market didn’t care; maybe they don’t care about fancy wood in Asia
I prefer the tops on these Les Paul’s but I prefer everything else on the Original Collection
I agree, the thick pinkish binding the early 00's Standard stands out a lot to me compared to the current thin binding..
I’ve got an 04 studio that has a back like that. The top is really plain, and the neck is unremarkable, but the back is mesmerizing!
The back is really really nice. And unlike a lot of girls now a days, the back is REAL 😂
I’d keep that. You probably won’t find another like that.
You'll find similar or close... but I've yet to see anything top this one!
Beautiful guitar
I wonder what epiphone Trogly would pick out of the current offerings

That is a magnificent instrument. It is a keeper.
I feel you are missing out on stunning woods by not having more Musicman and PRS in your life.
I swear you said in a video like a week ago you don't like the pick guard installed . Not to nit pick. I like the channel. Although it makes Gibson more of a collectable then a musicians instrument. Ultimately driving prices up.
Thanks, i own one also, hc flame, feb 2006, a boat anchor that plays black metal like a demon, love it, the flames...
I don’t like the pinstripes but it’s a nice guitar. I prefer quilt tops over the really pinstripe ones.
Fourth?
37th i thnk
Standard plus?
Baby got back!
That's the best looking lp standard I've seen so far. My favorite era is the 2014 standards, mainly because of the push pull knobs, weight relief and triple A tops.
Love the finish, but what yes had richlite
Whatever happened to Ola? I used to see him in the comments all the time
Very good question.
Now that you mention it I've not seen him in a pretty long time!
Very nice lester. Wish I had crazy money to offer. Rock on
I can see why you would smile. Yhe wood on that top is so well defined. Just looks great.
The 50th Anniversary 2002 was amazing mine is 2003
Gorgeous just gorgeous ' ...and those tones '
