Boeing 777-9 Begins Certification Flight Testing, Can it Beat Airbus 350-1000?

- Boeing's next-gen jet, the 777-9, took a major step towards commercial flights with its recent test flight. This wide-body giant boasts impressive features like quieter cabins, better fuel efficiency than rivals, and an extended range. With 426 seats and a focus on passenger comfort, the 777-9 aims to dominate long-haul travel, but faces competition from Airbus' A350-1000.

Beautiful aircraft. 777 is my favorite wide body to fly on. Can’t wait to see it put into service.
I live on the Big Island of Hawaii. It was posted on social media a couple of days ago that the 777-9 was seen in Kailua-Kona airport for several days. Several commenters said it was part of its certification flying in the open international waters around the islands.

I’ve flown on the 777 and the A350, and the 777 flys better.
I should hope it's 6% more fuel efficient than the A350. By the time it's certified it'll be 8 or 9 years behind the airbus.
I wouldn't be surprised if Airbus announce an A350 Neo is a few years.

AND, even if an airline is keen on it, Boeing's orders are so backlogged that it would be a decade's wait to receive it. Quite a few airlines have had to scrap their expansion/resumption schedules because of many 787 delivery delays.
At the moment, Airbus is riding the crest of the wave with their A350-900s and A350-1000s. Good on them.
I believe all four 777-9's built will be part of the certification program. They'll go on an accelerated test program to get the plane ready for certification possibly by February 2025. This will allow deliveries to begin to Lufthansa, the launch customer for the plane. Once in service, the 777-9 in Lufthansa service will replace all the 747-400's and A340-600's still in service with the airline, and may allow Lufthansa to cut back A380 operations.

Won't happen. The TIA cert process will take a minimum of 12 months. I work for the company. But it would be great, in all honesty.
Far more than the 4 test aircraft have been built. 22 are in storage until certification.
I’m so glad the Lufthansa a340 are gonna be replaced. I flew on em this summer and hated them, they feel so bumpy and shaky and not because of the pilots, because the roof area with the bags was shaking all over the place…
i believe this aircraft will kick ass…..yes it has taken time but rather it be done right with no surprises whatsoever

The A350 has doors that close and stay on the plane in mid air, whilst also avoiding throwing random emergencies at the pilots mid flight, including overheating engines, if the pilots forget to switch the de icer off 🤔
Not once, not ever, did I hear the narrator say a word about IMPROVED SAFETY. Just another Boeing and I'm still not going.
We see an urge for travel and airports being congested. I beleive the 777x has its place specially for big hubs and companies like emirates who needs high capacity planes
Should be a terrific aircraft but will the market be large enough for it`s size. As it stands I`d suggest the B777 300-ER is as big as most airlines want to go & really A350-1000 is the de-facto replacement for it offering a far more efficient package while be as accomodating. B777X is larger, heavier & far more costly, so in my opinion it may not be as popular as Boeing hopes.....but we`ll see in due course.
The market in recent years has been growing like never before. It seems unlikely, but the demand for larger aircraft is increasing surprisingly enough. Several airlines have brought retired A380s, 747s, and A340s out of retirement simply to fill this desire for increased air travel. While the 777X is certainly still large for some airlines, other require an aircraft of its capacity to satisfy their demands. Will it be as popular as the A350? no, it definitely won't, but as dumb as it sounds due to all the delays in its production, the 777X couldn't be coming out at a better time. Also, it should be noted that the 777X, while being larger and heavier, as you mentioned, actually boasts better fuel efficiency per passenger than the A350, assuming that it can fill all its seats. So, depending on the demand an airline has for specific routes, the 777X may be more efficient than the A350.

I think it will be a slow burner. Only when the existing 777-300ERs start to reach the end of their lives well sales start to pick up. It'll be a like for like replacement almost.
@@Prodagist Only Global has bought retired 380. A vast majority of the retired ones have been or will be scrapped. EK alone has already retired 3 that it's going to use for parts. There seems to be a sufficient market for the 777X program. It already has 481 confirmed orders that will go over 500 once the KE order is finialed. Good order count for a large aircraft that has yet to be delivered.
@John-bi1lv I said "brought" not "bought" I didn't say airlines were buying A380s, some airlines that already operated them such as Singapore Airlines, and Lufthansa, sent them to be retired, and then brought them back into service.

@@AW-hg2ut Ok but in what way? If it's to do with an engine blown up then it's Rolls Royce with their Trent 900. If something other than an engine, then put it this way I was ON one of Qantas' A380 esp. during Christmas holidays seats were filled. Qantas already have A330s and B787s which can be used where A380s are not needed. My biggest question was why Qantas haven't ordered a 777 esp. being designed by that airline?
Quality control and safety to check every bolt in that plane should meet the standards to have safe flight , and should keep up their name to sucess... hopefully there should no more software issues or doors flying off or wheels falling off ...and software to prevent turbulence ..
Airbus has the first mover advantage, which is big in the conservative airline industry. Boeing has serious historical issues, which don’t need to be rehashed here, but they appear to be systemic, which adds unknowable and unquantifiable risks to buying a B77X. I am a Boeing bigot, but if I owned an airline, I’d only consider Airbus for the next 10 years. I’d let other people work through and solve the problems at Boeing. I don’t do beta testing!
As long as they do not fall out of the sky, you never know with Boeing, they may sell a few planes.
Over 1,200 test flights and 3,500 hours in the air, which by the way is the most of any aircraft going through certification. So far no 777’s have fallen out of the sky have they?

Airbus A350 is the clear winner here.
Not sure, but from the reviews I’ve seen the A350 seems to be a crowd pleaser. I think the FAA is really going to scrutinize the certification given Boeings recent issues.

I think thats because airlines nearly all squeeze 10 across in the 777 now. It used to be really comfortable when 9 across was the standard for most airlines. (The same with most airlines now going 9 across rather than 8 across on the 787 - shout out to JAL for keeping that going).
The A350 didn't really have a wide enough cabin to do that, so airlines are stuck with giving people a good width seat, and people love the plane for that.
I doubt it, the only problems we’ve had with the 777 line is the wheels falling off but that was a maintenance issue not Boeing

yes 777-9 can beat A350-10. Boeing needs internal candidates for CEO and Directors who are trained in engeneering and production. Boeing needs to develop MoM and go vertical down to catch up with A321.

I’d be very nervous in flying in one of these. Did they get the guy to go around to every nut, bolt and screw and make sure everything in tightened up

The 777-9 will sell just fine. The a350-1000 is cheaper. It will of course sell more.
A more efficient engine design and improved wing design are the key features of this design. Unfortunately, it carried too much 300ER into the current design and clearly shows many compromises rather than a clean sheet design.
Recent engine designs in the last 10 years prove to be less reliable than before. It will be interesting to see how GENX performs.
You mean the GE9X the GEnx has been flying for years on the 787 and 747-8i and 747-8F
@@gregio6295 The GEnX engine on 777X is brand new, not used on any other planes. Earlier versions of this engine series were well demonstrated and certified. This newer engine design, like other recent designs by other suppliers, has a higher bypass ratio, hence more efficient but its reliability is not proven yet.
It’s been testing for at least 3 years.

777-9has 480 firm orders and is far ahead of the 350
Not possible to beat A350.. because we had gained good service experience about the fleets and met customer expectations. Further we have an excellent power-plant XWB which makes the A350 airborne. Thanks to Rolls Royce. GE 9x claims only 5% of increasing fuel efficiency when compared to XWB -97 variant. This is not enough to gain new customers for Boeing..
I am guessing that Airbus had put all of their profits on the table and waiting for a new technology fleet to be build.

Depends on the airline and their needs, The 777 seats a fair amount more people than the A350, the 777-8 to be specific, the smaller varient of the 777X family, seats around the same as the A350-1000, the larger of the A350 family, so the 777-9 seats even more than that. As hard as it may sound to believe, given how many people the 777X can seat in contrast to the A350, it actually boasts better efficiency per seat than the A350, assuming an airline can fill most, if not all of the seats. The 777X can also be advantageous in the sense of fleet commonality, while many airlines have replaced their aging 777s with A350s, many haven't, and the 777X could be a more suitable replacement for them given it would require little to no additional training for pilots. Lastly, the 777X simply seats more people than the A350 as mentioned before, airlines with extremely popular routes that fill up quickly may look to the 777X over the A350 simply because of the increased capacity.

777-8/9 are ahead of 350,777 are equipped with latest features like true flexing wing,very smooth flying and absorbs turbulence effectively by flexing it's wing.

Domestic needs? What are you talking about? All the orders are from non-US carriers, looking for an eventual replacement for their a380s that will age out of service in the future. This is now the largest passenger plane in production.

Need be much much better quality, Boeing ha spoor quality. Boeing planes are poor quality, bad old design 777 planes. People are scared to fly Boeing. It has poor safety record.
