- Pestilencia is the unofficial music video that I made for the German band Haggard. The project is about the plague; a devastating pandemic that first struck Europe in 1348, killing between one-third and two-thirds of Europe's population. A time where many people lost their mind, acting like beasts as they abandoned their norms and values and basically gave up on life. Hence why I chose to portray people as the rats with the fleas that carried the deadly disease.
Pestilencia is also inspired by La Danse Macabre, or the Dance of death, which is an allegory on the universality of death, expressing the common wisdom of the time: that no matter one's station in life, the dance of death united all.
Produced under the impact of the Black Death, reminding people of how fragile their lives were and how vain the glories of earthly life.
Pestilencia is an animated photo collage, with photo’s that I took in the Muiderslot castle, church in Breda and Zaandam, and of my models wearing rat masks that I made as well. The music is by Haggard: Pestilencia & Saltarella la Manuelina.
