    The "Golden Rule" of the Shawnees was: "Do not kill or injure your neighbor, for it is not him that you injure, you injure yourself. But do good to him, therefore add to his days of happiness as you add to your own.

    • @janegarner6739
      @janegarner6739 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The great warriors are not all gone. Although the total extermination of all native peoples of what's now the U.S. was the aim of the U.S. from its founding till well into the 20th c., most of the peoples have survived, albeit in greatly reduced numbers.
      By the turn of the 19th into 20th c, most people thought all these native peoples were facing total annihilation within a generation or two, & indeed the population of each native nation was so low that most natives were afraid the end was near. The war to exterminate native peoples to the west had ended by the late 19th c, with most native homelands seized by American settlers/colonizers & with most Indians being confined to "reservations." The lands east of the Miss. had been invaded & seized in the earlier decades of the 19th c, the native peoples forcibly removed from their homelands to Indian Territory (now Okla.). The process used by the US in this forced removal was, by the way, later closely studied by Hitler & the methods were adapted to become the means by which the Nazi government forcibly relocated millions of people in Germany & elsewhere in Europe, with the camps that came to be known as "work camps" & "concentration camps" closely modeled on those used by the US against the Indian peoples.
      Although less than 10% of the populations of Indian peoples had survived by the end of the 19th c, & although gov. policies continued into the 20th c. with the aim of genocide of all native peoples within the US, the expected total annihilation of all these peoples didn't succeed.
      Of those native peoples who survived, almost all were forced to live in small areas of land far from their homelands. For all native peoples, the removal from their homelands meant that their spiritual lands were lost, as with Native spirituality the landscape of their homelands is vital---the homeland, the land & sky & animals & all else is sacred, is a vital part of each people's religion. Too complex to explain here, native spirituality is intimately tied into the "landscape", with the sacred residing within each place. This is unlike Christianity & Islam, religions that can be moved to anyplace on earth, as these are based on a specific deity & doctrines. (See Vine Deloria's "God Is Red: a Native View of Religion".)
      Although a few ceremonies were allowed to continue for the amusement of tourists in the SW (& these were very modified, not the real ceremonies), it was illegal for native peoples to practice their traditional religions in the US until into the late 1970s into '80s when the US laws re: native religion was changed,after much pressure & international embarrassment. Before this, native religion had to be kept hidden or risk arrests.
      But the great warriors continued in each generation, although the popular (non-native) idea of what defined "great warrior" had to change. Traditionally, depending on the particular native people, the definition of "great warrior" seldom bore much if any relation to the popular idea. There have been great warriors throughout the 20th into 21st c. For examples, look at writings & works by natives themselves. Vine Deloria, Jr, is very widely respected within most native communities; although he was himself Lakota, he wrote about all native peoples, & throughout his life he worked for all. There are a great many others whose works are now printed, whose aims are to keep native traditions alive.
      Look at the native newspapers (online, as well as in print) available as a guide to what's happening, to who's leading various fights, etc. The great warrior tradition never died.

    • @MelissiaDawnHopson
      @MelissiaDawnHopson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Considering the facts that Mexicans are originally indigenous peoples (pre Spanish invasion) , the West half of the U.S. where plains indigenous lived was possessed by Mexico up 1874 (years after the Civil War), and the fact those who lived on the East Coast were pushed West up until 1877, those on the West would have by all means been Mexican indigenous. Also considering that they possibly married and mixed with those from the East settled in that area as well, it makes perfect sense that Mexican indigenous are related to U.S. indigenous. They are literally the same people. Factually, your ancestral grandparents would have been the same people living on that very land, passing genes down to those who now live there.

    • @climatepurification
      @climatepurification 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Umar Johnson Actually that is not true. These tribes lived for thousands of years on these lands and some of the largest tribes developed a peaceful way of existence that a majority of the pioneers romanticed and then incorporated into how they live here. Many tribes would actually compete in friendly competition, a practice reproduced today with sports teams. Additionally, if these natives were described as savages, what would be the proper term to describe those that came after, murdered innocent women and children then claimed the land unlawfully through over 400 broken treaties? Lots of delusional perspectives that don't bother to question where their hatred comes from especially considering that these natives never actually harmed them in their own lifetime, let the ignorance go or die without any understanding of what it means to be human. A civilization barely surviving 300 years can't claim much over a GROUP of tribes that existed over a thousand. The crimes of today are much worse than the crimes of the past.

      I am Native American, and as a Native American we all see and go through discrimination and hatred towards our religion, our customs, our traditions, our language, and the way we wear our hair. Us Natives do things a certain way to keep traditions alive, we don't add "Dubstep" or other genres to our music. Only if one person from any Native Nation decides to have a career in music then only that person can do that. And some people have, and Natives have history that is not being taught in schools for instance the "Dakota 38" which is about the killing of the Dakota Nation men, young boys, their chief, and medicine man were killed because President Abraham Lincoln gave the order to his men to round them up and executethem all at once by hanging them, the Dakota people cried and prayed out loud before being hung. Its not only Native Nation that watches this but all Nations. In videos like this one, not all pictures are of Shawnee Sioux, there are pictures of Natives from other Nations too, when you look up pictures of one Nation like the Shawnee Sioux, not all pictures are gonna be of the Shawnee Sioux maybe it will be mixed pictures. All Native Americans were together at one point before we got separated by the settlers.....I'm not wanting to argue but I'm just sayin'....

    As i look up on the journey,
    You could see the clouds
    rolling across the sky
    as the day started to rain
    teardrops of blood across the land
    lost in their visions of doubt
    buried in their pain
    white man had all the say
    we were left to taciturn
    as we watched everything burn
    and the heavens cried
    on the trail of tears trail of blood
    On some beaten shore
    we watched the ships come in
    one by one, our land wore thin
    we could just watch with closed eyes
    as the promises made were just lies
    they said you don't belong here anymore
    behind their mask, they wore a disguise
    and the heavens cried
    on the trail of tears tears of sorrow
    Blood spilled on our sacred ground
    leaving a unwanted stain
    where mighty warriors once made a stand
    we never could walk hand in hand
    when they lived by so much greed
    we watched our people fall
    thousands must bleed
    still all we could do is try
    and the heavens cried
    on the trail of tears tears of blood
    Guided by the spirit of the 4 winds
    we held on to our pride
    something they could'nt take away
    as so many children died tears of blood
    through our darkest years
    and the heavens cried
    on the trail of tears
    trail of sorrow tears of blood from
    The hunting grounds my ancestors still weep.

      No they’re not really though. Well to an extent I guess, you’re like half right. The Mexican people were created by the intermingling of the indigenous peoples that were there in what is now Mexico and the Spaniards that invaded and colonized. Before the arrival of the Spaniards the Mexican people did not exist yet. Native Americans aren’t a mix of colonizers and indigenous people, they’re just indigenous, their own people. They were their own people for 10,000+yrs. Mexicans didn’t exist more than 500 yrs ago. The people that were there in what is now Mexico were VERY different than “Mexicans”. They were indigenous. Mexicans are a mix of indigenous and the colonizing Spaniards. That’s why u guys speak Spanish, Catholicism, all that. This language and religion was only recently in that land. Last 500 yrs or so. Also the Natives of what is now the United States and Canada were very different than the Natives of what is now Mexico, South and Central America. VERY different type of Native Americans. Different land and environment, different customs, beliefs, culture, way of life, etc.. still respected but they were different.
