My sister saw Hank Jr. Live in the 80's. She said it was the most amazing concert ever. His musical ability is tremendous. He played every instrument on the stage, including brass instruments!!!
Bocephus has Such an interesting life story, when he finally broke away from fathers shadow he took off, 3 straight entertainer of the year awards which hadn't been done till him. Nice trip done memory lane. His concerts could be just like that. Keep making you music also!.
Loved your review. In Aug. 8, 1975 Hank fell off a mountain cliff in Montana some 440 ft and literally busted his head open. It took years of plastic surgery and he lost an eye. He adopted the beard and shaded glasses to hide scars. When he returned to music he had changed his style. He is the only son of Hank Williams famous singer song writer of the 1940's and 50's. Hank Sr died from a drug and alcohol overdose in the back of his limousine when Hank Jr was a very young boy.
He’s actually singing about his dad, the Country Legend Hank Williams Sr. You got to hear his son Sam Williams do Hank Jr’s (his dad’s song) Weatherman! Sam has a great and unique voice!
His Dad was as good a storyteller and an amazing singer also. He died at 26 when Hank Jr. was 3. An addiction to painkillers and booze did him in. He left behind a lot of great music and one you should react to is I'm so lonesome I could cry, a storytellers dream.
Hi Dani. Been a Hank Jr fan for years. Hank does tend to change his songs live though. He will do different lyrics and even melodies. He is having a good time with it though. Definitely check out "Country Boys Can Survive" and "The Conversation" which he did with Waylon Jennings. It is the 2 of them basically singing a conversation about his Dad Hank Williams Sr. Hank Jr was nearly killed in a 500 foot fall from a mountain years back, and went through surgeries to literally rebuild his face. It's an interesting story to hear. He owes his life to a friend who was with him that day along with the friends son who I think was around 11? The friend went to get help and the kid stayed with Hank to keep him talking and safe. Stay safe and well!
Hank fell 500 feet down a mountain in Montana (probably half-drunk on Jim Beam), this happened in 1975, but songwriters have to take liberty's in order to rhyme, so they both tried to kill *me" in *1973* was the magic formula there. Maybe he and his wife got into an argument back in Alabama and he headed mountain climbing in Montana, who knows. He wrote a song called *Blues Man" that is a real tear-jerker. Talks about how his wife saved him from his destructive ways.
Hi Dani ☺ He made a song with his dad when he found a steel album of "Tear In My Beer". This was after his dad passed away but he made a nice video of them together. A nice tribute to his dad.
Dani thanks for doing my request. I got to see Hank Williams Jr in concert in 1983 at the Azalea festival that is held in my hometown of Wilmington , NC. The warm up act was a up and coming group Called Alabama who became a very well known group. Hank Williams Jr was very energetic with the Crowd and explained some about why he wrote his songs. He let Alabamas lead singer sing with him some on stage. It was the best concert I ever attended.
Blues man,Whiskey bent and hell bound,Country boy can survive,Texas women,Women I never had,If heaven ain’t like Dixie,Dixie on my mind.you need to listen to Tanya Tucker won’t be disappointed great voice and story telling: Delta dawn,What’s your mommas name,Blood red and going down,Lizzie and the rainmaker,Love me like you use to,When I die.she stared recording at 13 yrs old.Marty Robbins is a great one
I Loved Hank Sr's music. But, when Hank Jr started out they had him singing his father's songs and I didn't care for them. Then when he broke away and started singing his music, I loved it..
Hank jr's dad died at the age of 29 in new years day when hank jr was about 4 0r 5, When he was a teen, his mom and others wanted him to replace his dad and had him just singing his dads songs. He wanted to be his own singer and have his own style and started singing songs that he wrote, That is part of what this song is about. when he was young he sounder just like his dad, He did the sound track for the movie "your cheating heart" a movie about his dad Hank Williams Sr. you should watch the movie.
Why do you drink? - to get drunk Why do you roll smoke? - To get stoned Why must you live out the songs that you wrote? - to get laid That's why he pauses after he asks those questions. The audience responds by singing "to get drunk, to get stoned and get laid"
He fell off a mountain while hiking in 1973 which was one of a few things that convinced Hank to start doing things his own way. Right around that same time Waylon Jennings and the outlaw movement in country was going on. Musicians were tired of the same old music that the record companies were giving them. So, this song sort of encompassed Hank's disapproval of being compared to his father, the way the current music was and the various problems occurring in his life at the time.
Hank Jr is the epitome of outlaw country - not that he is an outlaw just he is doing his music his own way and very different from the top 40 country formulas of the day. Hank is the son of the famous Hank Williams Sr who did die young from alcoholism. Hank Jr did suffer from a freak accident that required facial surgery and was a challenge for him. Hank Jr lays it out there and he does like to party, get drunk, smoke them up and he is so fun to listen to and great for those times when you are in a country music bar and want to get rowdy - although there is a hint of sadness as he tips his hat to his father! He has an amazing voice and is a fabulous musician and plays the guitar and the fiddle. Other fun ones are Whisky Bent and Hellbound - which sounds serious but is tongue and cheek and funny as hell when you listen to it. Another great one is a Country Boy Can Survive - and an ode to all independent people out there whether you live in the city or the country!
Check out There's A Tear In My Beer, done via modern technology with his daddy, Hank Williams Sr, and my favourite Hank Jr song, Young Country. Hank is great!
Hi Dani! It sounds real because he lived it :) I saw him preform when I was a kid and he played every music instrument on stage. He has a cover on here,a Jerry Lee Lewis tune Thats a good one.”My Name Is Bocephus”Is another. But “Tear In My Beer”with his Daddy is a classic video.
Dani Hank Williams Jr. Almost died in 1973 because he was drinking himself to death and the doctors told him he'd be dead by 29 just like his father Hank Williams senior perhaps the greatest country music songwriter and singer to ever live and he died at Twentynine.
Hello dani, awesome reaction video of hank williams jr family tradition. Hank has a great duet of his dad,s hit there's a test in my beer. It starts off with hanks jr,s dad starting the original song and the hank jr started being in color but because his dad,s video was set in black& white he was imposed and added to make both dad and son in the same video together and in black& white clever to the record company to make that song a hit for not only hank sr. But for hank jr as well.
Hank jr has a song for everything he’s got so so many good ones and a lot of story telling song He must have a real big imagination with some of the songs he wrote check out two dot Montana it’s a cool story tell him song in a hidden gem not many people knows
I enjoy your channel very much, your reactions, and performances. You are truly a joy. I am sorry for your You Tube problems, their fault totally. As to further Hank Jr. (Bocephus) reactions, I request that you evaluate Queen of my heart, it was released back in the late 80's or early 90's I think. My memory may be a little inaccurate as to time, thus the broad era. Thank you for all the time you spend entertaining us.
Guys did you know that when Hank Jr fell off the mountain cliff in the 70s and they had to put his face back together. His face is mostly plastic. I know it's sounds graphic, but he became a stronger person for it. The first thing that went through his mind when he woke up in the hospital was that will any woman ever look at him the same anymore. That was his first thought. He had so many surgeries ad pulled through with the help of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. Still praying for you/ I can't imagine what it feels like to lose a child, especially a daughter of 28 with a husband and two kids.
One of the things to understand with Hank Jr, is Hank Sr. Hank Sr. was a huge country star and then ended up committing suicide at the age of 29. Hank Jr grew up in his dad's shadow and he once said in an interview that when he wrote this song he had his dad in mind. Hank Jr. had been married and divorced by the age of 22 and was leading a life of drugs and booze and women until he finally pulled himself out of it. One factor in him pulling himself out of it was a psychiatrist that he went to and that psychiatrist told him that he had to be his own man instead of constantly trying to be like his dad or else he would end up just like his dad. So when he is singing about going to the doctor and saying it is a family tradition he is referencing that and him saying that he went and broke the family tradition is him saying that he wasn't gonna end up like his dad. Hank loved his dad and, like this song says, he is proud of his daddy's name. But he made a conscious decision to not end up like his dad and he conquered his problems.
Glad you are doing some country reactions. It is really an autobiographical song about himself. Other songs by Hank Jr you should check out A Country Boy Can Survive, Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound, just to name a couple. If I may I'd like you to react to Conway Twitty some time in the future, Slow Hand, Hello Darlin or I'd Love To Lay You Down. Have a great day
Hank Jr. is the greatest country music entertainer, of all time. He is the only entertainer, in all genres, to have nine different albums, on Billboard's top 50 charts, at the same time. CMT has made his video and song All My Rowdy Friends are Coming Over Tonight the greatest country music video of all time. You should check that out.
this is such a fun song, you need to go to your local country bar and you will come back with a different point of view. hank asks 3 ? oh hank why do you drink (from the crowd you will get)[to get drunk Hank why do you roll smoke? (from the crowd again) {to get high} Hank why must you live out the songs that you wrote (from the crowd) [to get layed] lol
His father was 29 when he died of an overdose of Chloral hydrate and morphine ,given in A hotel in Knoxville Tennessee.Hank JR was 3 years old.The singing, hard drinking and drugs was his family tradition
In the bars every time this song plays and he asks the questions...Hank why do you drink... why do you smoke...why do you live out the songs you wrote....the whole bar yells...GET DRUNK....GET STONED....NONE OF YOUR GOD D BUSINESS.....in 1973 while drunk on Jim Beam....he fell over 100 feet from a cliff n broke bones all over his body including his whole face...
The story behind the song is basically you know his mom started in performing at 8 years old and he was singing all his daddy songs and that was great but it wasn't what he really wanted to do Hank was talented multi-talented he could write he could saying you can play damn near every instrument known to man and he took his music on a different path and he went up against the wall but in the end if you do the research you'll see more hits and Eddie Money numerous chart Hits album after album pop charge just phenomenal and you chose probably the best live video of this song if you can get out there. He changes the words a little but not much if you really want to look into some of Hanks stuff you know I know what you get recommended is usually radio hits of performers but Hank has some really great hits look into him
Hank Williams Jr's dad wrote and sang so many of Country Music standards. For example Your Cheatin' Heart, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, Jambalaya, Kawlaga and Hey Good Lookin' to name a few. He had 31 singles in his short 6 year career of which 11 were Number 1's. As for Hank Jr a good song to listen to is a duet between Hank Jr and Waylon Jennings where the are talking about Hank's dad called The Conversation. th-cam.com/video/csONW-zWFqs/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/4WXYjm74WFI/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/xtolv9kM1qk/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/KoO6XVCKDc8/w-d-xo.html
You have to really understand the life Hank Williams Jr. had being the son of the country music legend Hank Williams. The expectations and pressures must have been enormous growing up. His sound is much different from his father's and I'm sure that he heard those criticisms and more growing up. His father had a drinking problem also and the son slid into many of those bad habits most likely to escape many of those comparisons. When your dad is a legend it is often difficult to blaze your own trail in the same field. Currently Hank Williams Jr.'s son, Hank 3, has his own band and take on country music. So the tradition of good music continues. Hopefully Hank 3 isn't suffering through the same bad issues that plagued his dad and grandfather. All three family members are worth looking into.
Why do I " ROLL " smoke, that's a ( wink, wink ) back when the album was made, especially in country music, it was verboten to even kid about that. Even though half of the stars at the time were taking " medicine " to stay awake or go to sleep. Check out his life. They both tried to kill me in 1973. Referring to his 500 foot fall off a mountain while hiking or hunting. Doctors didn't even think he was gonna make it.
his dad was the biggest country star on the planet and died of an overdose which was taboo for 1953. the song is very personal and tragic but done in a comical way.
G’day Miss Dani, I really enjoyed this post of Hank Williams Jnr. Don’t know too much about the Williams Family, but I also enjoy country music.Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson, Kriss Kristofferson, Charlie Pride just to name a few other country legends mate. There was a band called The Charlie Daniels Band, back in the 80s. They had a huge hit song called “The Devil Went Down To Georgia”. Loved it. Perhaps add this little ditty to your long long list of requests. Next time mate.👍🇦🇺🤪☮️😁❤️
Or I’ve got rights or Knoxville courthouse blues both are crazy story telling songs hank jr is a very talented person he plays like 8 different Instruments and is a master at all of them he can sing so good right song so good he’s really something special I put him on a pedestal and everybody else below that Pedestal
Since you like Elvis, you should listen to Austin Brown’s (from Home Free) version of Unchained Melody that he just released. It’s amazing! He has his own YT channel now. Love your stuff Dani!
That particular live version doesn't hold a candle to the regular album recording...which will be a classic 'till the end of time, I do believe. His dad's favorite song of mine is "Lost Highway", a true gem that is surely leading me down a rabbit-hole of his music in the very near future, as that song is in a league of its own. Jr. (here) does have some really good and funny songs, though, and I strongly suggest his greatest hits album to anyone.
his father died from a morphine overdose in the back of his Cadillac while a stranger drove him from one gig to the other. he also created pop/popular/consumed by the masses country music.
His dad was a great country singer for the time. He also was an alcoholic. Alcoholism runs in the family. Hank Jr. also used drugs pretty regular. He sounds awesome though.
Dani hi how are you. I request you watch me weatherman , whiskey bent and he'll bound, I'd rather be gone, cajun baby. Some young and older hank williams jr songs. Love you and ur channel. Big fan
Actually Dani it’s fans of his father hank Williams sr always wanted to hear his songs and it put him in deep depression watch the movie called “living proof” also movies of his father hank Williams you’ll understand lots get it wrong my brother did then he understood
This dude was king when I was in school. But, after I was grown, I figured out that it ain't cool to be a drunk. Why couldn't he sing a song about our lord or a song that would tell our kids not to drink or smoke instead of being so proud of being an outcast.
I've read bits pieces here in the comments, I'll give you the whole story. Hank Sr was a country legend, he died when Hank Jr was 3 from a combination of an addiction to pain killers and alcohol. He got addicted to pain killers when they were prescribed to him for a back injury. Jr's mom, Audrey first put him on stage at 8 years old and he was groomed to be a Sr reincarnation. Hank Jr released his first single January 1, 1964 exactly 11 years after his father's passing. He continued to want to perform his own stuff and was allowed to on a VERY limited basis. The first song he ever wrote and recorded was called Standing in the Shadows. It was all about living in his father's shadow. At age 21 Jr announced he was his own man and broke free from his mother's influence to keep doing his father's stuff. Throughout the early 70's Hank was heavy into drugs and he od'd after his split from his 1st wife. Still after years of trying to find his own identity, in 1975 Jr recorded the album Hank Williams, Jr and Friends in Alabama. Southern Rock staples such as The Marshall Tucker Band,Dickie Betts of The Allman Brothers, and Charlie Daniels played on the album. It was the first album Jr did entirely in his own way. However, before the album could be released Hank fell 527 ft down Ajax Mountain while hunting. He has said while he laid bleeding on that mountain, he talked to his dad. Sr basically told him to be his own man. It took about 2 years for him to recover enough to record again. He came back with the hat, shades and beard to cover his scars, and started to doing it his way. People who were expecting the "old" Hank Jr would show up and walk out. Sometimes 5000 people were there when the show started and just a few hundred would stay. But he stuck with it and the crowds begin to grow. By the early 80's he was one of the hottest shows going. In 1983, he owned 9 of the top 50 albums on billboard charts at once. A feat still unmatched by any other living artist. By the mid 80's he was selling out 20, 30, even 40 thousand seat arenas. Now jump forward to today, in 2020 Hank Jr was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame. The make him and his father the only father/son duo. Keep going down the Hank Jr rabbit hole, you won't be disappointed. Anything pre 75 will sound completely different than anything post. Still great, but different. Songs pre 75 I recommend is All For the Love of Sunshine (his first#1) prides not hard to swallow, and eleven roses. You will get plenty recommendations post 75

No one else could have sang this song for a hit other than the son of Hank Sr..
In 1973 Hank plunged 500 ft down a mountain on his face. He is a miracle, he is the man who lived.

Hi Dani ☺
He made a song with his dad when he found a steel album of "Tear In My Beer". This was after his dad passed away but he made a nice video of them together. A nice tribute to his dad.

He changes the words a little but not much if you really want to look into some of Hanks stuff you know I know what you get recommended is usually radio hits of performers but Hank has some really great hits look into him
"Old Habits" is a good one from H. Williams Jr.
I almost forgot dude was singing! I was too busy looking at your "BARBIE" head phones~

Hank has many great songs but one of my recent favorites is The F Word that he does with Kid Rock.Funny Song! You may want to check it out
I'm a huge Hank jr fan, like his father as well. Try the song Blues Man.....talking about a story song. He does Country, Blues, Souther Rock.
He has such a huge and brilliant body of work yet this song and a couple others seem to be the only songs of his that are requested of reactors.
The Conversation and Weatherman are both great songs
Great songs. Wait till she hears Mr weatherman.
Whiskey bent and hell bound
Hank Sr. Is the most important figure in popular music history.
I love when the youngsters react to real music.

His Father, Senior, invented modern Country music.

Bocephus baby!
Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound.
He's talking about his father Hank Williams Sr his dad was a famous country singer
his father died from a morphine overdose in the back of his Cadillac while a stranger drove him from one gig to the other. he also created pop/popular/consumed by the masses country music.
His father was a famous singer....
Hank Williams Sr....who had a drinking problem
His dad was a great country singer for the time. He also was an alcoholic. Alcoholism runs in the family. Hank Jr. also used drugs pretty regular. He sounds awesome though.
By most accounts Hank was a bing drinker and go long periods without drinking. At least according to Ernst Tubbs.
You really need to react to Texas tornados who were thinking of
His dad was the big country guy in the 50s.
A true country legend right there! My all time favorite!!

Dinosaur by Hank Williams Jr.
His dad was a famous artist and had a drinking problem
Listen to Weatherman and do a reaction - his voice is awesome on that song
