I genuinely want someone to ask one of these hacks: when they create the 11110139208312903421th horror game where (GASP!) you turn out to be the bad guy who has killed your wife and/or child and are in purgatory/hell...do they really think they're being original? Like, are they not aware this is the plot of countless terrible games and has been a cliche for a decade?
Because trying to predict if a game will sell is impossible. The best these kind of people can think of is "this game went really popular, if I copy it I'll be popular too!" because some people still think you can completely predict and create something that'll certainly get attention when.. yeah you can't at all.
I do wanna say, like, making shitty games is actually a really important part of a game Dev's journey - in that making a bunch of small, predictable, formulaic indie titles with bought assets is literally the best way to learn engines, coding languages, tools, etc. These games are also for your portfolio when you want to apply to big triple A companies. I guess the problem comes from when the devs decide to flood the indie tag on Steam and charge like $5 a game.
@@SootballYea, you can't expect every random person who gets into game making to make something wholly unique from the get go. They gotta start somewhere
The game just can't be scary with that French track playing. It's too French to die to! Anywhere within ten feet of a phonograph playing that track is French soil. 😂 If that track was playing and Freddy Krueger walked right in the front door, I'd be like "Peess off you feelthy peeg, I am far too FRAWNCH to be scared of vous. Vous theenk I am afraid to die? Get een line behind lung cansair and terminal angst, and take your bourgeoisie melodrama with vous!" And then I'd take a deep drag from my thin cigarrete and blow smoke in his face before returning to the sardonic mime act about the futility of being that I was performing to the music.
For a dev making fun of the "note" trope so early in the game, he sure did use a LOT of other horror game tropes ^^ This was way too generic and predictable, but this also gave me serious "first game" vibes, so if that's the case, fine. But next time, the dev should consider using royalty free songs, because that song (that he composed, of course) was truly horrible. The music snob in me wanted to stab my ears every time it played after the (excruciatingly long) first time we heard it.
I think your drinking made you see the kid as some monster so you accidentally killed him, then the drink was to forget and that's why drinking it made you run so you're running from your problems which in the end always catch you back up

The next time I see one of these games, I want to be looking for the boy with the birthmark over his eye. I want to work through the mystery only to be confronted by a man with a birthmark over his eye. The plot twist is no one’s dead, the protagonist has dementia. And the boy, our son, just grew up. Our glimpses of the past have been overlapping with glimpses of our grandson. The game can end with us being embraced with love and compassion, instead of a noose. And I dare you to tell me you can’t make dementia scary.
