    This video featuring the song "Baba O'Riley" (Teenage Wasteland) and the Nord Stage 3. Here we see my "new version" of this video using samples created with the Nord community on the Nord User Forums (see link below). This song is from the Who's album "Who's Next", this track is simply amazing! And now we have a very close representation of this song here on the Nord Stage 3. Please note that other Nord keyboards that play samples (think Electro) may be able to take advantage of these samples too (see the Nord User Forum website for compatible samples and do a search for "Baba").
    Here is the Nord User Forum post mentioned in this video: www.norduserforum.com/nord-st...
    Please note that I appreciate the discovery already done by the TH-cam community on this.

    Thanks Marc. I had grabbed the samples from the nord user forum a few weeks ago, but found that the proposed splits that you have also used don't work on the ns3 compact since it doesn't have a high-F key like the 76 you're using! So I put the 32 synth part between the FG synth and the piano. This also allows me to play the 32 synth with my left hand while playing the piano with my right rather than having to use my left hand for the piano part as you demonstrated (and doing a fuller chord on the piano since I can't hold the bass piano key as well). Believe me, I went through all of this when trying to get it set up on my keyboard.
    I took it a step further by using pressing the ARP RUN key and then quickly hitting the low C key to get the automatic repeating 8th note that gets played when Roger sings "We're all wasted". I then copied this program to a second program where I replaced the 32 synth and piano parts with another synth where I used the "Strings Quartet Solo Vib" sample with sufficient mucking about in the Delay, and Amp sections so that while the FG synth is repeating the C key ad nauseam (while dropping the Decay to 288ms with the Arpeggiator set to 1/16T with ARP RUN and KB HOLD keys on), I can play the violin part through to the end and on the very last note simply press the KB HOLD key off to silence everything. I switch to this second program right after the last piano chord is played with the guitar "solo". I hope this was clear. Try it. It sounds amazing. I'll post this comment to the forum as well.

      Awesome description and execution of this davevaebutuoy! Do you make videos?? You should, would be neat to see this in action. 😎 Any suggestion on the best violin sound to use? Going to pin your comment to the top too so people can see how you've tackled this (and by the sounds of it, conquered it). Many thanks for speaking up here. We'll all benefit and there are a lot of Stage 3 Compact owners out there who are going to need a solution like this.

      @@MyKeysToMusic the Novation Summit. Already bought it-- eagerly anticipating its delivery today. I've had analog monosynths for a while now and played around with those, but the "analog sound" sheen wears off when you realize you can still only play one note at a time. I started researching various 8-16 voice polys, e.g. the prologue, Prophet Rev2, Hydrasynth, Peak,etc. and found that the Summit really speaks to me in a way that I've never found just by watching demos and reading the manual. I like its sound design and live performance-oriented features. I come to synth primarily from guitar and bass, so some features that are completely normal in the synth world are still very unfamiliar to me, at least to a point where i feel it would hinder my performing ability-- sequencing, midi, menu diving, etc.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello @The Violin No0b Thanks for your question. I didn't create a plan/method for the slightly altered arp arpeggios for the solo part. You might just be able to fudge it based on the notes you play or you could create another assigned note within the existing sample for the solo parts. It would take some mapping of all this and some planning. Let us know if you come up with something on this.

    Great video! If Nord would update their Sample Manager, you would have the ability to map those samples to different keys on ONE panel. Since the Sample Manager is not fully compatible with the Stage 3, when you map a sample to a specific key and set an upper key, the sample continues to play beyond that upper key which is really annoying!

    • @MyKeysToMusic

    Awesome tutorial! Wondering if you can use a sustain or expression pedal for one section of the split, say just the piano…

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The sustain pedal is assigned by engine. So if your piano is playing on one side and is set to sustain ,that will work independent of another engine (let's say the synth) that is not set to sustain on the other side of the split. Likewise you could have two sound engines layered across the entire keyboard and have one set to sustain and the other not. Hopefully I'm understanding the question.

    • @thehe2546
      @thehe2546 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MyKeysToMusic Yes thanks so much! What if I split piano left and and synth right side...could I plug one pedal in to sustain piano, and a second pedal to sustain synth?

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thehe2546 You ask good questions. The answer to this one is mostly no and kind of yes. Seeing how there is only one sustain pedal jack in the back, you can't sustain two splits to run independently (and together) like this. You can choose if a split is either to follow a single sustain pedal or not. Now, with that said, technically speaking (and we are getting really technical here), you could use a controller keyboard with a connected sustain pedal and independently control panels via separate MIDI channels. In that way you could have two sustain pedals but the second pedal would be plugged into the controller keyboard. Perhaps a bit too much monkey business, but I think that would work! Keep in mind however, if you do this, the sustain pedal on one pedal would have to drive panel A and the 2nd sustain drive panel B. In order words even if you got two pedals to work like this, you would still have to make your split sound from both Panel A (for the piano left - fist sustain pedal) and Panel B (for the synth right - second sustain pedal connected to the controller). In other words, the sustain control (no matter where it comes from), will power the entire panel (or not if the engine is set to not sustain). Hope that makes sense!

    Will this work on the Stage 4? Thanks!

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @paulmally7798 Hey Paul! Yes, this will work for the NS4 as well. The approach would be nearly identical (although the exact buttons to push and knobs to turn may be slightly different).
      *Here is a high-level set of steps:*
      1) Navigate to the same post on the Nord User Forum as indicated in the video
      2) Download the required samples from the post (even though they talk about the NS3, the samples will work for the NS4 too).
      3) Download and install the LATEST Nord Sound Manager software from the Nord Website (This will only work using the latest software since they recently added the ability of the software to convert older samples to a format that the NS4 can use).
      4) Download/install the samples to your NS4 and assign them to a program and Save/Store
      5) Make the necessary embellishments and assignments enabling you to perform the song on your NS4 (this might be the blind spot without an exact walk-through). But the general concept is similar to how it's demonstrated in the video above.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Francesco! Well, you really need a Nord Stage 3 to pull this off in the way that I demonstrated in the video here. You need 2 split points, 2 synths and the KB hold feature which are features only available on the Nord Stage 3. Sorry! The samples themselves could probably load on the Nord Electro 6, but you wouldn't be able to utilize them as seen in the video.

  • @kevinvotto5272
    @kevinvotto5272 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can it be done on a Nord electro 3?

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kevin - not really as it's configured in this video which requires 2 splits. However, perhaps you could reprogram the sample putting all the sounds either to the right or to the left side of the keyboard and perhaps it could be done that way. You'd also need a way to hold the synth key(s) down in order for it to play the synth part the background. We're using the KB hold on the Stage 3 here which the Electro doesn't have. So, if you're prepared to make your own sample, you may be able to pull this off.

  • @moogy77
    @moogy77 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    BOO, BOO! Nord still keeps not adding the most basic things that now, by the 5th edition, they'd get it RIGHT!!
    I just received my compact 4 and, one day later, it's going BACK!
    Let's see, NO POLY GLIDE! I had poly glide on my OB X in 84. Let's see, being able to save your patches on a USB stick!
    How could they have two buttons in addition to the others for morphing on the Wave, but the same old choice of three on the Stagr4?
    BOO!

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear this @moogy77 but I get it! People sometimes scratch their heads, asking themselves why Nord does what they do at times to not include basic "bread and butter" options for the Stage keyboards such as:
      - More than one LFO or the ability to assign it to more elements.
      - A proper envelope: Attack, Decay, Sustain, and Release (To be fair, they do have this for the Nord Wave 2 and they are morphable on the Wave 2 as well.) But they omit this from the Stage keyboards for some reason. Maybe they feel it's overkill relative to the typical customer that would purchase a Stage keyboard?
      - More layers, more memory, and thumb drive storage
      - Poly Glide
      - Other
      Perhaps they don't include these things on purpose so as to not cannibalize their sales of the Nord Wave 2? If that's their logic, then we have to salute the genius of that marketing strategy!
      Truth be told, most people are really really happy with their Nord Stage 3 and 4 keyboards. They provide the sounds and the ease of use they are looking for. I think for the true synth fans out there, or if you are coming from another brand, there are a few essential things missing which become an instant deal-breaker which may be the case here. I find that there are a lot of pro keyboardists who are using Nord but have no clue about synthesis - and they like it that way. So, I think the Nord stage keyboards are great for most day-to-day keyboardists, both pro and amateur. If, however, you are looking for sound design and "complete subtractive synthesis" capability, we're back to looking at getting a Moog One or something of that nature. I see you have "Moog" as part of your channel name, so you know exactly what I'm talking about, I'm sure.
