    Hi there, I have the Ortur Laser Master 2 with the 4-4.5 watt output laser. If the G8 lens has a longer focal length, why didn't raise your laser before focusing? I bought a G8 lens from a laser parts supplier and he suggested the distance from the laser body(not the lens) to your workpiece should be 4-4 1/2 inches. I have seen anywhere from 2"-3" What is the correct distance? Can you make a video showing the correct measurement from the laser to the workpiece? Does it very with different power output lasers?

    I wonder if this lens and the Ortur 20W would be a badass combination for cutting. They say that the 15W unit is actually better because for cutting because of the lens focal length. So in my mind with this lens you get the good focus and more powerful laser. = Profit? :)
    Ortur states the following:
    "You could get the same engraving result with a powerfull laser at less power rate. But, LU15W has a longer focus length than LU20W, if you need to cut plywood, it would be better to choose LU15W than LU20W. In engraving the same materials, LU20W is much faster and can engrave much more materials."

    Before you had G8 lens, would you be able to focus to point or to small line? I have the 20W version original lens yet, and I'm wondering if the G8 lens will be able to correct this issue, since moving the z axis, thus modifying the focal lenght didn't improve my focus.

    • @DIY3DTECHcom
      @DIY3DTECHcom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In general diode lasers focus to a bar and not a dot. This is rather complicated to explain but the short side is the fast rise time and the long is the slow. The G8 lens has higher efficiency and longer focus length meaning a smaller kerf though thick object like foam....

    Ok so I purchased the G8 from the link in the description. I finally installed it and can’t get it to focus right. The only way I can get it to focus is if I unscrew it so much that it falls off. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

    • @DIY3DTECHcom
      @DIY3DTECHcom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First do you have pointing the correct way? There is an up and down to it, second is it has very long which at minium the object to be cut needs to be from 30mm to 100mm away unlike a G2 which needs to very close. Mine is about 50mm away...

    • @DIY3DTECHcom
      @DIY3DTECHcom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry no, you need a CO2 laser as keep in mind a diode laser is a visible light laser so if you can see though the material so will the laser...

    • @gregoryconnors7370
      @gregoryconnors7370 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean "cut" as in cut through, then no, but you can engrave (sort of) an image onto the surface by using a backer board or something on the underside of the acrylic. The energy will be focused on the media under the acrylic, and the acrylic will then absorb SOME of that energy. The result will be an image burned (melted) into the surface of the acrylic. I'm not sure of the success rate, but I know people are doing it and eventually someone will outsmart the law of physics.
