Watching this all the way through today was better than 10000 hours of therapy. I got this game in 1995 and played it with an old school joystick. I’m 40 now… wow the nostalgia is unreal. It was SO HARD, I worked my ass off to beat Band Land, my hands would get so sweaty 🤣 I haven’t played any video games since then but searched Rayman to show someone who has never heard of it and found your video. Amazing! Loved reading everyone’s comments. Life was so different back then but it was an awesome time to be a tween. We were lucky. Thank you so much for posting this, I’ve been sitting here in childlike bliss for hours. I haven’t felt this much joy in a long time. Thank you!!! 🥰
I was OBSESSED with this game as a 12 year old. Loved the design and music so much, played it constantly while my sisters watched but could never get past Band Land. Bought it again 25 years later, played as hard as I could... couldn't get past Band Land (the part of Bongo Hills where it turns dark and the eyes start zapping you. got right to last few platforms before end of level, couldn't get past it). The only way I can see the ending is watching this video. Thanks
One of the hardest and.. best designed platforming games EVER! A bona fide timeless classic. Well played, my friend! Appreciate the struggle. Cheers ;)
I have so many fond memories of playing the DOS port of this game when I was 11 years old (I'm now 37) and got this game from Media Play (how I miss that store... 😢) with my allowance I had saved up (about $30 to say the least). Even when I stopped playing the DOS version of Rayman after getting Windows XP computers and a Windows 7 computer (prior to getting my first Mac in 2013 as an early birthday gift from my father since he was usually not home for my birthday), I would listen to the music on the Redbook CD and bask in the memories. My TH-cam name is a play on the phrase "dead man walking" (which is what a prison warden says when an inmate on death row is on his/her way to their execution) and this WONDERFUL Ubisoft character. I understand that years ago, Michel Ancel had left the gaming industry...so who knows what could be in store for our limbless friend...
That music level had me fucked in all sort of ways when I was young, and our PS1 save cards stopped working so we kept having to blow in to them, like the old Sega games yet we kept losing our progress
Me too!!! When Rayman put his hand on the mosquito’s shoulder 😭😭 then he was flying so fast Rayman had to hold on to his eyelids 🤣 man I LOVED this game.
Loved this game as. A kid just got this game and ps¹ for my birthday today so awesome. Harder than I remember and I'm a pretty experienced for a gamer. It's so nostalgic ah to be 12 yo girl Again. Where did the time go xxxx
I'm 32 I remember this Soo much I sucked at it Soo bad but now I got it damn this game still is fun I like it better then the Nintendo 64 one. Lol I didn't have memory card for like a month after I got this I had to start over all time . Ugh I hated it lol . This shit gets hard lol. I feel like I'm 6 yrs old again. Thanks for this. This is better then any mobile game around.
I played this game on the ps3 growing up (thank rayman origins for introducing me to rayman at all) and I trudged my way through this hard ass game due to extreme stubbornness until the very end where the whole “collect all electoons” bomb dropped. Kid me’s patience already ran out so I just looked up a password to get to mr. Dark’s dare, good times
I miss this cute game so much ❤ i love it i played this many times after school😂 now im 40 and we have the new rayman i play it with my kid on the nintendo switch we have so much fun😂❤
This game would have been so much better if 1) lives were easier to get 2) levels were shorter 3) get rid of the stupid continue system 4) remove the recoil after getting hit by an enemy 5) instead of finding the power ups you unlock them so you always have the long punch and 5 health slots This is one of those games that isn't challenging its flawed. It's a shame because the visuals and sound design are top notch. The fact that this is a port that came years after the original shows they had no excuse to leave these problems in the game.
@WPacManW it's not my opinion this is a very popular opinion. I could due without all of them if they just didn't have the crap save system. It ruins the game.
When they ask you on a job interview if you're flexible, able to handle pressure and unforeseen circumstances, and you say you've completed Rayman; Hired! Jeez, my blood pressure is spiking from just watching this. XD
Say you did well!! You are so fantastic!! You were so sensational!!! You are colossal!!!!!! How about "Rayman 2: The Great Escape" for the PS1 next up?
This reminds me of the side scrolling action of the Mega Man X series & SpongeBob SuperSponge games. This also looks like a lot of SNES & a few N64 games. There were a lot of side scrollers (along with 3D) on the Saturn. There may or may not have been side scrollers on the Dreamcast. Some modern consoles have some side scrollers (Metroid Dread on Switch, for example). A lot of early CD games (Turbo Grapghx, Sega CD and Neo Geo CD) have side scrollers. Genesis does too.
Probably not many on Dreamcast. 2D games became quite unpopular after fully 3D games started becoming popular in 1996, so there would be plenty of side-scrollers in the early days of N64, Saturn and PS1, but not so many later on (except on handhelds). They've regained some popularity since though. Rayman released in 1995.
Technically the NTSC version of Rayman is the most hardest due to 60 Hz making the game faster. I play Rayman on PAL (50Hz), and hell... your gameplay look so fast to my eyes. Rayman seems to be originally planned to be played at 50Hz because of somes animations not matching with the sound on NTSC versions. All thoses speed problems were such a mess... Good thing there's no more problems like that nowadays.
rayman could possibly be better than sonic if they didnºt try so hard to pull the rabbit arcade games and advertise them so extensively. i think these 2d platformers were just fine as for 3d levels again itºs not as good as mario, rayman lacks cool movements and it shows.... i like the game still.

I am fucking old as shit now, but this game, the opening sounds, the graphics, the characters, all make me feel like a child again.
Thank you so much.
Rest in peace Rayman.
When I was a kid the first time I punched one of the fish I couldn't stop laughing. I spent like 20 mins punching the fish and laughing my ass off 😆
