What I don’t like about this franchise is that I am expecting to see middle eastern women, and there are at least 3 or 4 Americans. This is not what I was expecting. Not a fan. I want to see a different culture.

I hear this. But being as this is a Bravo show, I’m just glad we only have 1 white housewife. Tbh, I was expecting more white expatriate housewives, so to at least see black-American and a Somalian housewife is encouraging. I do think we should have more middle-eastern/Asian housewives in this franchise (not necessarily Emirati) as they comprise the majority of Dubai’s demographics.

They are, I assume, affluent housewives living in Dubai but actual Emerati women are not featured as they would need permission to participate and I doubt it would be granted. It's not just the cultural stigma Emirati and Middle Eastern women would face going into entertainment (obviously excluding Sara, whose parents were very liberal, and Nina who lived in America).
It's also because Emiratis in Dubai are a minority. Foreigners built and run this city, so this show is a good reflection of Dubai's socialites and elite; they're from diverse backgrounds, and often times they are educated abroad and Westernized.
What bothers me is the fact that Dubai is mostly South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, etc.) yet not a single South Asian was casted, despite there being many of them who are filthy rich over there.

I don’t think many Middle Eastern women and husbands agreed to have their wives and social lives exposed to the public. We all know about the toxic masculinity in these countries. I’m from South Africa and we have it as well but it is not that bad as before. I think it was harder for bravo to cast Middle Eastern woman because of the stigma around certain lifestyles. Not all housewives are married and it takes a strong Middle Eastern woman to be known by the whole world that she is divorced. It’s just hard. It’s really hard but hopefully we will see many Middle Eastern woman and we will get to see more culture. I love culture ❤️

@@dallypurcy3113 True. Different definitions of certain behaviour for different folks. It just depends on beliefs and upbringing. I see 40/50 year old woman wearing bikinis and in my culture Zulu/🇿🇦 it’s inappropriate. In my country we also have the real housewives and one of the new member is a 4th wife, so there are discussions that are triggered, but with that said she is still a wife who has to carry herself a particular way. She still dresses conservatively and her behaviour is that of a married South African Zulu wife. So with that said I would disagree that the show is trash but I understand the American stigma that Dubai and other African countries have. Dubai can change the show and not make it trashy. It’s not the show it’s the cast members. I’m saying this as someone who’s watched housewives of Lagos🇳🇬, Durban, JHB, Cape Town🇿🇦 and other American cities. We even had the Ex wife of a former President, so you can only imagine how she pushed for educating the world on our culture and doing events that have to do with a growing woman and how we should carry ourselves. So whoever in Dubai watching the housewives of 🇿🇦 knows that being a virgin and education and respecting your culture especially your elders is important in South Africa. People all over the world who watch RH of🇿🇦 know that girls in SA get their virginity checked, there’s a whole ceremony around it. We have traditional/cultural sweet 16 which is only for the virgins. If you’re not a virgin you will have an English sweet 16 which is partying and a cake etc. it was the Real Housewives of Durban 🇿🇦 who told the rest of the world that, some already knew. All I’m saying is I want to learn more about African culture and other cultures, especially Middle Eastern culture 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

As someone whos lived in Dubai, even if I wasnt rich and in those circle, I know exactly the vibe there and all this drama is not it. It's a superficial city, there is many friendships of convenience, friendships just to go out, for business, etc. People will judge you based on who you hang out with, what you look like etc. Brooks saying oh in Dubai they love us nah girl you can't read the room. Black girls who make it are few and you'll normally have a bunch of white friends, either Eastern Europeans or Brits/American. Generally, Blacks are not liked, even if you're pretty and well off. You always need to be dressed to impressed.
So those who are sure to succeed in Dubai socialites networks are Nina and Caroline. Despite Caroline's drama on the show, she has established high profile friendships and she really doesn't need the show. I feel like the type of viewers that watch the franchise doesn't being anything to these women except drama. The Dubai lifestyle of bar/restaurant/club scene I know is back in 2015. Things were not all put online. It's all about knowing how to act in public, knowing stuff but mainly hidden, Invite-only parties etc. Real ladies of Dubai know how to be discreet, would never scream in public, etc. TV reality is kinda cheap and doesn't suit what Dubai lifestyle is about. I dont really know all the franchise but I think the only luxury franchise that works is BH and the drama fits there. There are gazillion of TV reality shows in LA and it's not out of place. Also ladies are able to capitalize on the fame they get so it's more of a TV show, a business, an investment and some ROI for some of the cast. But the formula in Dubai, as a Dubai resident I admit it's cringy to watch. As a black woman who has experienced this lifestyle, been invited to private events etc. I feel like the 15-min of fame of the ladies will be precarious. Black women are always judged to a higher standard there. Personally I love being private and I can't relate. I haven't watched the show yet but have nothing bad to say about none of the ladies. Wish them all the best.

It's negative and the message she is sending out is confusing.

      Somalia is a country
someone can be Somali ethnically but not from Somalia the country or connected to Somalia the country.
there are Somalis from Ethiopia (3rd largest population in Ethiopia with their own ethnic region).
      there are Somalis from Kenya
      there are Somalis from Djibouti
      there are Somalis from Somaliland
      there are Somalis from Puntland
that is 5 different countries/states Somalis are from and live in that is not Somalia.
as an Ethiopian we all know Somalis are one of 85+ ethnic groups from Ethiopia. they are not from Somalia or have any connection to Somalia.
i am not Somali but i know their culture is very controlled by tribalism. and different clans/tribes live in these different areas now divided into seperate countries and states.
a Somali from Ethiopia, Somaliland, Djibouti, Kenya etc cannot just move or live in Somalia which is home to a completely different clan. they cannot be accepted by the Gov or locals. they cannot make a living or have a community with people from a different clan/tribe. they will not be accepted.
if she is a Somali from the clans/tribes in Ethiopia and Kenya she really has no connection to the country Somalia.
there is a difference between ethnicity and nationality.

@@oromtitiwbo5078 thank you for replying and I mean this respectfully but I am Somali and I'm very aware of my cultural heritage. What led me to disliking Ayan and her comments in this scene was that she was previously asked in interviews outright if she was Somali in terms of her ethnicity. She denied this completely and attached herself to only being Kenyan which is completely fine. However, why is it that on the show, when it came to the discussion of guns , she felt more than comfortable to identify herself as Somali and latch on negative stereotypes to show her 'hurt'? It's the way she framed the discussion about her ethnicity that left me quite irritated about the scene.

@@oromtitiwbo5078 if she is being asked what her ethnicity is and she refuses to outright state that she is is Somali within the context of an interview but gun crime will prompt her to identify herself as Somali, then there's a serious problem with her presentation and conception of being Somali. You can be Somali but not value your ethnicity and resent it and that's what I feel she is doing by what she insinuated in this scene.

Chanel needs to heal what’s hurting her instead of being so insecure and so petty worrying who like her or not… like do you and just don’t give a dyam… you can’t expect everyone to like you. Heal from your past and stop being so bitter.

You sound more bitter than her talking about a stranger you’ve never met in your life😂 atleast she’s honest about her past pain and insecurities unlike you who is projecting here😂

She needs to get over herself. There is nothing wrong with people not liking you. Plenty of people are not going to like you. You are not going to like everyone. It's a very simple and very real fact of life. Very sad for her upbringing and trauma, but at some point you can't blame that on A,B,C. She can be toxic and kinda shity and thats on her. If she doesnt like her why she so bothered that girl made her feel excluded? that makes no sense to me.

Ayan is hilarious 😂...omg !!! Love her....why would anyone want to watch middle eastern women ? I mean what a joke! It's like bringing women whose lousy hubbies would beat them.up if they came on the show? Why would bravo do that? And secondly thankfully the real Dubai expats are mostly poorer like Indians & Pakistanis to name a few
