    So was Nepal fully or only partially controlled. I googled and got conflicting information...

      Nepal wasn't controlled by the British. After the Sugauli treaty, Nepal did lose 1/3 of its territory to East India Company but some of it were returned after a couple of years and remaining were annexed into India.
      Since Nepal was never conquered or controlled, Nepal doesn't have an Independence day.

      Nepal is still and will still forever be Independent Country without celebrating Independence Day ( Jai Mahakali, Jai Pasupatinath, Jai Gorkhali)

    Ooo brother you got it wrong.
    Nepal was never under any British rules.
    We did had treaty and British was allowed to have a residency in Kathmandu.
    Who ever came they were given all the respect but was made to feel house arrest and he or Britain could do nothing and that's true

    You truly do not want to mess with these guys. I mean, look at where they live. I am not surprised that Nepal bred such warriors.
    Although the Fremen in the Dune novels read Islamic, I dare say that they were based on The Gurkhas. The Fremen have the Crysknife, similar to The Gurkhas' Kukri. Just saying.

    i think Nepal was pretty much an autonomous state or puppet state of Britain. Which in my opinion says a lot about the gurkhas themselves, as the british were impressed enough to let nepal keep such an amount of self rule. Personally i really hope Warographics also covers the French Foreign Legion in the future. Another unit with a fascinating history

    He is wrong about the pensions, prior to 1997 Gurkhas got an army pension in Nepal, the pension allowed them the same standard of living as a local doctor. and they got the pension after 15 years service.

    • @gaphil2610
      @gaphil2610 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Gorkha still got 250 pounds per annum as pension. Which is way less than what brits got… They dont want more , they are just asking for equality…. I mean they deserve more, but the are just asking for same payment. on top of that British citizenship… they are not categorized as citizen of britain… If you are refugee from certain countries (dont want to mention name , probably you know), they get it but not Gurkhas who served you. Gurkha declined to get citizenship as refugee as they served the military, so the talk is finally being held”… I can talk more on issue, but just dont comment BS without knowing the ground reality

    Gorkhas are magar, gurung, rai, limbu, tamang , chetri and thakuri tribes of nepalese people. Gorkhas are Nepalese, but all Nepalese are not gorkhas.
