It is a blessing to find a good review paper if you have to read into a new topic. Props to all the people who write these! In my field (material science) a very wide range of topics have to be combined (mostly from solid state physics, chemistry and and a good amount of engineering mindset). As a professor of mine told us in our first semester " We are the guys who know enough from every topic to work but nothing as deep as a pure chemist or physicist." it is even more important to find good material to learn about new effects. Thank you so much for your effort!
it's good that you're not abandoning your channel, i kinda thought it was dead haha, also it's amazing to know that you got your review article published. congratulations!
Congrats! And oh man, the last crunch, get those letters! (I’m totally here for “What is This Thing: A Paywall”, which is a bit nicer than most of the other possible titles that immediately spring to mind for the topic…)
I have also written a survey for my PhD work and is published since May this year! I totally understand your experience and what you are talking about.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! I'm so excited for you! Publishing a Review Article? That's HUGE!!!!! thanks so much for posting this video!! Its great to watch you succeed!!! I'm in the middle of comprehensive exams so this is perfect timing lol. It's really encouraging to see creative-minded types succeeding in science!! Reading your review just became one of my rewards for finishing Comps!! LOL
The way you read it out loud is way more interesting then when reading it on your own, haha! Congrats on the publication, thats huge!! I'm adding this to my "to read" stack!
Congratulations on getting published. It's totally ok to feel proud about doing good work. It's great that you take the time to make videos and explain the process to the rest of us that are not in grad school. Keep up the positive attitude! I write software and sometimes when I look at older code I think to myself, Wow how did I ever write that? It's our minds keeping us humble. :)
Super congrats! I've been watching since bite-sci-ed, and am just starting my Ph.D. in astrophysics next year! What an amazing channel! Congrats on all your success, and good luck on the final huzzah!
Congrats! :D I'm so happy for you and your excitement on sharing this with us. I also appreciate that you left it open acces so we can read it without problem, and sure, that pay-wall matter would be so interesting to be made into a video.
I'm so happy for you! I'm sure you'll get your PHD too, you scientific superstar! ❤️ Also, I love how your paper is available for anyone to read to. I've bookmarked it and will check it out soon. ❤️
Hurrah! Congrats on the review, something new to add to my PDF vault. Glad to see how you are progressing in academia. Also, your dress is awesome :D PHD PHD PHD! Good luck closing it all out.
I so truly love how frank she is... Like this person is out here changing the code of life and makes it seem as approachable as the other commener, fundamentally simpler subjects... Thank you is all I can give for now, and a pledge that my work, whatever it might be, shall also be for the public good and open source
Congratulations, well done. As far as your uploads are concerned, while appreciated, your career is more important than our entertainment. So, do what you need to do. What you can do here in the time you have available is valued.
Congratulations on your huge success!!! 😊❤ I just wanna say that you're a huge inspiration to me. As an undergraduate student, I've found your channel few years ago and it peaked my interest in laboratory work. We are currently working on our thesis paper (under the field of microbiology and molecular biology), hopefully we will be able to publish it soon. I am really happy that I've stumbled upon your channel because your passion for genetics is really contagious. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Keep up the good work! We are very proud of you ❤
Thats amazing! congratulations! Is it common that phd students in the US publish something as first author during their phd? In germany thats virtually unheard of, because projects are designed to culminate in one final paper that will be the basis for your actual thesis. Also I have never heard of a phd student publishing a review, so extra props to you!
Thank you! Yes, PhD students typically publish as first author on their projects here - depending on the program, there are often requirements on *how many* first author pubs you need before you can graduate. Thankfully mine is only one (though the review doesn't count!).
Hi! I'm new to your videos. I am trying (desperately) to enter grad school to do a PhD next fall. I have a question! What do you plan to do after defense?
I decided to see if I could find your paper through Google Scholar, and yes, yes you can! :D It's the 1st result if you search "AM Dainis" since 2018. Much congratulationages! :D
It's there now :D I do the same thing when my friend gets a paper published. Jump to Google Scholar and see if it's there. I don't know of it means much to most people, but I think it's pretty cool to be able to say "yeah, you can Google my work"
I just wonder why we have to use so complex of a language when writing these kind of things. Why can't it be more coloquial so that everyone understands the topic better?
Interesting paper. Doesnt half give you pause though, when discussing the potential power of the treatment and in particular CRISPR, while also noting the disparity in which populations are being covered. Like some kind of unintentional eugenics. but then I suppose a lot of great science has the potential to do a lot of harm. Hopefully, they can keep an eye on it without hampering progress too much.
It's crazy, it feels like both yesterday and a lifetime ago! It will be five years this fall, which is a little fast for my program average but still a long time!
I've read some papers in my life, and I must say, most of them are usually too difficult to understand. I guess I won't understand your paper either cause I studied something completely different.
I'm sure it might be interesting to read, but unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to understand the first thing of it, because I am neither a doctor nor a scientist.
Next question, "who should be writing these things?" My advisor and a post-doc wrote this (arxiv.org/abs/0803.0901v2 ) review article that is 56 pages, and this other one (arxiv.org/abs/0903.1096v2 ) that is 95 pages. It seems to me that review articles are written by more senior people the older the field of study is. These papers are on Theoretical Nuclear Physics and quark-gluon plasma. The experimentalists have been looking for and then studying this stuff for 30 years. The theory is around 60 years old. Consumer grade genetics has been around for about 5 years, making precision medicine about 10 years old. Your stuff is really new. My stuff is old enough my graphing calculator could do the numerical analysis that delivered the first papers.
It's so awesome that you're published now. Hearing the process just makes it that much more of an incredible feat. Congrats!
Thank you!!
7:28: "It looks so real and professional!"
That's because it *IS* real and professional! *You* are a real professional!
Congratulations!

Hahahaha, that is an amazing video title...
OMG! I am writing a scientific review paper as we speak! Thanks so much for this video!
Congrats! That's totally awesome. Always glad to see when you post a new video, especially with how busy you must be.
I have also written a survey for my PhD work and is published since May this year! I totally understand your experience and what you are talking about.
Congratulations!
I am a cardiologist. I am looking forward to reading your review!
JACC is a great journal, well done
Awesome! You're my target audience, so I hope you find it to be entertaining and informative!
I can only imagine how overwhelming it is in the beginning to write a review and how gratifying it is to have it published. Congratulations!!!!! =D

PHD PHD PHD! Good luck closing it all out.
Thank you! Ahhhhhhhh I need to just run around chanting "PHD PHD PHD" until it's over.

Thank you is all I can give for now, and a pledge that my work, whatever it might be, shall also be for the public good and open source
Congrats! I am going through corrections of my own article and can't wait to see it published too! This made me so happy :)
Good luck!!
I could listen to you nerdtalk all day. Congratulations and much love from Waltham!
I remember working 70-80 hour weeks during the last six months of my PhD. Brutal but totally worth it.
*quietly whimpers* Yes... it will be worth it... it will be...
Congratulations! (As a med student I really appreciate reviews, even more if it's open access)
congrats! on the publication and all the best while you finish your PHD!
I. am. so. JEALOUS. Congratulations! Can't wait to take a deep dive in it!
Congratulations!!!!! Now that you have a publication as first author, can we get a video on " how to read scientific paper as newbies!" :D :D
Congratulations! I have my first first-author paper out soon too, though not related to my PhD, it's a pretty cool feeling.
It *is* a cool feeling! Good luck!
Congratulations, well done. As far as your uploads are concerned, while appreciated, your career is more important than our entertainment. So, do what you need to do. What you can do here in the time you have available is valued.
Congratulations! Keep up with your studies, we'll be here when you are Doctor Alex Dainis ;)
Im glad your back, you inspired me to study molecular medicine! Congrats on your paper!
Would love a video on scientific publishing and open access, etc.
Congratulations on your huge success!!! 😊❤ I just wanna say that you're a huge inspiration to me. your passion is amazing
Hey, welcome back, good job on the review, well done, congratulations! :)
Congrats!!! Downloaded the paper and will read it soon.
Thanks! I hope you enjoy it and learn something :)
OMG! YOU'RE BACK!!!
Congratulations!! I love your videos!

Wonderful Journal. I have just finished reading it.
Could you please share with me the template ( Latex?)
Great video! congratulations on your publication!
What is your hardest part of writing review article?
Congratulations 🎊. Wish we had more regular videos 📹 from this channel 😊
And thank *you* for making more cool science and videos!
Hi! I'm new to your videos. I am trying (desperately) to enter grad school to do a PhD next fall. I have a question! What do you plan to do after defense?
Congrats Alex! I'll go read it ^__^
I'm so happy for you.
Congrats! Have downloaded it very interesting video and review 🙂
Great that it is open access. I'm interested what you think on this topic...
Congratulations, that's awesome!
Congratulations!!!
I miss your videos. But I know you're doing research. Hope your spirits are high
Such a news really deserves long waiting ♥♥
I decided to see if I could find your paper through Google Scholar, and yes, yes you can! :D It's the 1st result if you search "AM Dainis" since 2018. Much congratulationages! :D
Ahhhhhh I hadn't done this yet! The last time I looked it was too early to be on PubMed!!!!!
It's there now :D I do the same thing when my friend gets a paper published. Jump to Google Scholar and see if it's there. I don't know of it means much to most people, but I think it's pretty cool to be able to say "yeah, you can Google my work"

Graduating?! I feel like it was yesterday when you said you were going to start on your degree? Was it that long ago or did you finish really fast?
It's crazy, it feels like both yesterday and a lifetime ago! It will be five years this fall, which is a little fast for my program average but still a long time!
I've read some papers in my life, and I must say, most of them are usually too difficult to understand. I guess I won't understand your paper either cause I studied something completely different.

Ah, so you beat latex. That boss is hard.
Congratulations..
This is super cool! Good job!
Give me a few weeks so I'm done with my first year of med school
I'm sure it might be interesting to read, but unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to understand the first thing of it, because I am neither a doctor nor a scientist.

HUZZAH! Great work! :-D
Congrats
Step 2: Edit a bunch of Wikipedia pages and reference the article.
That's so fire
it is SoOO cool that you where ofred this chance
Yay!
Congrats :)
i used this as a reference for one of my first year assignments 🥰🥰
That's so cool! Honestly seeing people cite this paper is one of the most meaningful things to come out of my PhD!
@@AlexDainisPhD i wish you all the best with your phD💜 ..i watched all your lab videos and started thinking..you're a role model🙏🏼 ..keep working📝
Defend well, soon-to-be Doctor.
open acces for the win. :-)
ps. we are still here.
I guess there is no money in finding cures so you're still just working on finding treatments.
Dont... disappear like this.. after so many months... you show your face
I
