Hi Karen, I am Maltese and can tell you Mdina (EM-Deena) glass is beautiful handblown glass made directly in the small village of Mdina in Malta in the north of the island. They have been making glass since 1968 - really beautiful pieces- I have quite a few myself- good luck with it- a great find!
One employee I spoke to at a Goodwill told me the reason that their prices have gotten so high on many items is because (the main reason), of all the resellers buying at their store. Said they can usually tell who the resellers are, always, always filming and always trying to look up prices for just about everything they pick up. So for the rest of us who are NOT resellers, don't even have a car, and look to buy items for ourselves because we can't afford most retail stores are finding it very hard to even buy items at thrift stores. It is really sad. And no, we don't even have a car to get to many neighborhoods on buses for yard sales. Occasionally there will be a yard sale that is not too far from a bus stop. However, weekend bus schedules are not very good (when most yard sales are held.) I remember when thrift store prices were very good (like Goodwill), but not anymore. (Pre- reseller days.)
@@Itiswellwithmysoul-h2l Might be plenty there for "Everyone" but at a much higher price!!! For those of us who are not resellers and can't afford to have nice houses or townhouses or condos to live in, it is very hard with the prices in Goodwill so high on many things. I don't even have a car and have to take public transit to thrift shop or grocery store, etc. Went on the bus to another thrift store and actually came out and asked the manager why prices are so high at his store. He ALSO said "We have tons of resellers at this store and it has increased the prices on most items."
The smaller lidded wooden box may have been a glove or hankie box that sits on top of a lady's dresser. Sometimes there are two, one on each side of the attached mirror.
Malta is actually a small group of islands (archipelago) pretty close to the Italian island of Sicily. Lots of great old forts, temples and churches. It has been a key military port, in the Med, for hundreds of years.
Auction house fees can vary widely in both type and percentage, so it’s always important to know what will be added to the “Hammer Price” before your first bid. You can see credit card fees, buyer’s premiums and sales tax, just to name a few. Regarding your viewer being in the crowd, I would often discuss the best lots with friends during the preview time and tell them what I planned to bid on and my bid limit, so they could tell me if they intended to go higher. Doing this helped Prevent us from pushing up each other’s bids. But I knew many regulars who held the view that “there are no friends at an auction”.
Beautiful Scottish sweater! Love it that you pick up an item that is only “one”! Especially if it is beautiful! Lots of people only want one or live alone and only need one! I will buy one glass if it is lovely!
Re Goodwill Goodwill sells free goods at a profit, but less than one eighth of that profit actually goes to the job-related programs they market as their primary pillar of charity work.
Upcycling, repurposing - I am all for it. As a young adult we called our interior design "Early Salvation Army". lol We thrifted, refinished furniture, made our own drapes, etc. etc. and we bought things we needed new, like kitchen appliances. Lots of goodies today in your haul. Always interesting to watch your videos.
I agree about the books! A winter's night with a book and hot drink is heaven! You always choose beautiful items, and its amazing you do this by yourself. Alot of work.
Your hair looks beautiful!!! It’s funny listening to you say you don’t have a lot of knowledge. It’s so obvious in watching your videos that you are extremely knowledgeable. Your yearly income also shows that you know what you’re doing. I love watching your videos, I think, because it’s so nice to know there are nice people like you in the world.
Oh, YES! I so understand why you’re keeping the beautiful vase! Fortunately, there are still a lot of book hounds out there who love ❤️ their books 📖 even if they just sit on their shelves and look pretty or for whatever reason are comforting to them. (Don’t we all keep certain things that are just “comforting” to us that have no other purpose and may not even be something inherited or precious for any other reason?) So yep, I figure there are more bookends available for resale, but still lots of book lovers looking for some nice ones. 👍
The brass nautical candle stick can also be hung like a sconce. I love your videos. You are so informative and fun. I agree, Goodwill is pricing themselves out of business. Many people in my area are donating to other non profit thrifts because of goodwills prices.
The Disney World Spirit Jersey is a great find! They are celebrating their 50 th year now and the merchandise sells out quickly. I hope you make a great profit ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I am a master basketmaker. The first basket you showed is NOT a buttocks basket. Its common name is a melon basket, because of its round shape. BTW you absolutely stole the Zulu basket.
Hello from Germany :-) at minute 24.50 that is a candle-holder for the wall , when it hangs the heavy "stick" with the "ball" makes that the candle stays straight so that the wax will not drop :-) , the felt ? makes that the wallpaper is not damaged from the metall ....
For items without a brand tag, and if the inner tag has an RN number, I have often researched the RN Textile Database, and have found the maker. Just a thought. (32:00)
Hi Karen. Another great haul. I agree about auctions. I take advantage of preview days when the auctions offer them. Seeing things in person is so much different than pics. I source most of my inventory from on line auctions/estate sales. Thanks for sharing all your beautiful finds.
Oh thank you for adding clothing in there. I learn so much from why you pick up certain pieces! I think that Jofit yellow would look soooo good on you! Thank you for such authentic content. Seems like you really care about what you post vs just wanting any content so you get a video up. Thank you, thank you! 💜💜💜
Hi Karen! Love your haul both from the auction and GW. I love to see what you picked up regardless if it’s name brand or recognized. You have such a keen eye for quality and beauty. Regards to you and Roger.
I LOVE going to auctions with my dad, that's our thing! We're in central PA, not many auction houses around here, but there are estate auctions usually every weekend, just have to find them! I actually work for a local auctioneer sometimes also - I either work as a runner or do the clerking for him - that's a tough job because you really have to pay attention!
I love that you keep stuff for a while ....that's a good way of letting go of stuff that you love . At least you have already cherished it yourself ...in the mind it all makes sense it can go to a new home.
Wow Karen, first off I love how transparent you are about everything . This video was such a pleasure with its diversity . The pink poodle tooth brush holder is adorable , the Jofit yellow next to your face is gorgeous . Yellow is a great color for you. Oh and the saddle blanket is OMG beautiful !! I agree with your logic about goodwill and auction houses , it's clearly not working well and I am personally happy that you are so aware. I was looking at the shipping cost on some of your inserts and that too has become astronomical . I am always on the mend like Mellisa and being able to sit back and learn so much from the comfort of my home is perfect for this life long student . Thanks so much for sharing all this knowledge you still don't realize you possess .lol Have a beautiful week dear friend .
Morning ! My Grandma had a Pink Poodle just like the one you showed . She use to put her Lipsticks in it . Not sure if that was the purpose for it ? Have A Great Wednesday !
Karen, dear, YOU of all the SUPER-RESELLERS on YT, (yes, you are in that category…I bow down….wink wink 😉 ) KNOW what you’re doing. And you have a LOT of knowledge and kindly share it with your viewers. Thanks!
You always find such great stuff. I’ve been collecting little wood boxes for years. I use them to organize my art and craft supplies. I like bookends, too.
the saddle bag blanket reminds me of blankets from Kasakhstan. The Bride is given one on her wedding day. the bag would hold her household utensils, towels etc.
That dough bowl is very similar to one I just sold on Marketplace. I got $65, but it was stamped on the base…Munising, out of Michigan. Great find! Also, I currently have a Mdina Malta bowl listed on Marketplace. It literally looks like a watermelon, so beautiful. I don’t think people know that brand of glass, so it gets overlooked. Most likely because everyone is so focused on Murano glass. So many gorgeous items, Karen! Love, from Ontario 🇨🇦
You guys have such a good time together♥️🐱 I used to attend auctions in NC..would try to comp everything in advance if they listed the stuff on their websites..lots of fun..especially box lots
Karen, love, love, love, your videos. I notice what looked to be some large pottery bowls in the back ground that you didn’t mention. I’m looking for a large pottery bowl 15” in diameter, minimum 14”. I’ll be checking your store. By the way, you are so very knowledgeable, funny, and beautiful! Keep up the good work. I’m brand knew to eBay. Walked into GW and spotted 3 Robert Graham Shirts. One of them is absolutely more beautiful than others, XXL, I’ve looked on eBay and Poshmark an have not seen one even close. 100%silk, very ornate! Gonna price it very high and see what happens.
Love all of the auction buys. You should do very well with them, and the GW buys were great too. You sure know your stuff!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the great work!!!!!!
Ohhhhh, you bought some great items at the auction. Those perfume bottles are lovely. The bookends are great - I agree about them being a fantastic decor item. On the glass vase - (most black glass is the deep purple color) - not a true dense black. I really enjoy your content Karen. You are one of the very first You Tube resellers I began to follow 3 years ago - you keep me intrigued and entertained. Best wishes on continued success.
Just have to say that you are amazing. Love watching your videos about the treasures you find, the info you offer on items, and online sales. You have a great eye! Kudos and many thanks 😎
Karen, I have several pieces of Baldwin brass...actually I have two of the brass sconce you showed. I was told it is called a captain's sconce. Historically, it was hung on the wall and it has the ability to hang straight as the ship is moving. I love mine.
Minute mark 16: Karen, what you call Carriers, at the Auction House, are commonly called Ringmen (even when they’re women) and for a faster/larger auction there will usually be one that is known as the Lead (Lead Ringman), which is what I did at our local auction house for many years. The Lead will often be the one selecting the item sequence down on the floor, picking out the next item (or lot) and passing it off to the other Ringman. Often he’s letting the auctioneer know what it is (by lot or name) because the Auctioneer may not see it clearly when he’s up on the podium/Dias. A well choreographed team uses both voice calls and hand signal codes to relay bidder and lot numbers back to the Auctioneer and Clerk, so the sale info gets recorded properly for Buyer payment and later payouts to the Seller. The Lead picks the sequence based on a prior discussion with the auctioneer, experience knowing a particular auctioneers preference or by crowd response to a Hot Item”. The Lead is controlling the crew and the floor, so that the auctioneer can work the price and bids. When the crowd is very large, the lead will be right out among the bidders watching the auctioneer’s blind spots, encouraging/heckling bidders and accepting bids, using loud voice calls back to signal the auctioneer that he has a bidder on (sometimes multiple bidders), often raising one hand while pointing out the bidder with the other. When we’d clear an entire business of its inventory, a farm, a car dealership or the big monthly 12 hour long consignment auction, we’d have multiple auction crews running 2 Rings at once. Our monthly Auctions would average around 600 bidder registrations. Get to know the Leads at your local auctions, as well as the auctioneers. It is often the Lead who has the written bids in his pocket for regular bidders, who have to leave early or who are over at the second auction ring. You can’t be in 2 places at once, but a good Lead can get your bids in during your absence or keep you from sitting around for hours because that last, great item is not coming up and you don’t want to risk losing out. Think of the Auction Ring, like a 3 ring circus, with a lot of activity going on behind the screens.
Beautiful item's Karen, sounds like you had a great time! I love your hair too❤ Thank you and take care... xo...hello to Mellisa and Bear, hope that she is feeling better..💖🙏
Lots of mask collectors on ebay! You will do well with those colorful masks! But I am interested that your info about what items will sell for are not 10X the buy in price. I love your auction videos! That hinged table top box could be a glove box, I have bought them before and done well.
I believe your lovely bowl (at time stamp 5:57) is an example of pit-fired redware. Pit-firing is probably the oldest firing method known to man, dating back to 29,000 BC. Pit-firing is not done in a kiln. The firing can be done in an actual hole or pit dug into the ground, or even in a galvanized trashcan. Traditionally, no glaze is used. This means that in pit-firing, the ash and smoke created by whatever you are burning to fuel your fire (wood, grass, sawdust, leaves, newspaper, even buffalo chips!) will have an impact on the surface pattern of black carbon on the natural clay colors of the piece.
Well Karen done Oh my goodness the horse blanket so lovely!!!!!. Can I just add that you are looking stunning my dear. Best wishes to you and the family from Scotland xx
That saddle blanket looks like a handwoven Peruvian llama blanket to me, Great find

Nice!

I just have to say the army shirt jacket with the flowers is too cute!
I love the crab cushion, l would have grabbed that

at about the 20 min mark the wood box is a "dresser box". Many antique chests had them and they got separated from the chest of drawers

Hi Karen, glad you had such great luck at the auction! Such great items! Cheers, Pat
I love that you rely on your eye for beauty and quality. Knowledge is power, yes, but your tastes set you apart from other reseller videos. 👍
I love your auction finds and I agree whole-heartedly with not using so much Target items in our homes.

Always love when clothing is in a haul. Your knowledge of clothing is so extensive. Thank you!
I really enjoyed this mixed haul. You.found some wonderful items
Your masks are exquisitely painted. Far superior to most available, even at galleries. $50 min each - Asian traveler and collector.
the poodle is a lipstick holder. i made one from ceramics 50 years ago. i still have it.
Hi Karen! Love your haul both from the auction and GW. I love to see what you picked up regardless if it’s name brand or recognized. You have such a keen eye for quality and beauty. Regards to you and Roger.
Sellers never know everything about everything. Selling is a daily learning process.
Loved the variety of items in this video. As always, you got some really great stuff for resale. (I would keep the vase permanently!)
I LOVE, LOVE , LOVE the saddle blanket. What a beautiful pattern and colors! You have a great eye!

I love selling bookends, too. So mid-century. Also, waiting for the item you want to come up for auction, ugh! Great haul, Karen, thanks for sharing!
Loved the mixed haul! Was missing your clothing and shoes haul lately.
The pottery at 23.05 reminds me of some Mexican pieces I picked up while on a cruise.
The pink poodle was for lipsticks back in the day from 50-60s. When women only had couple of lipsticks. My aunt had one.

Great haul ! I think the poodle is a lipstick holder.🤷🏻♀️ love your videos! ❤️
I agree- that was the first thing I thought of when I saw it, too!
I also agree lipsticks. Remember seeing these in the 60’s

You might be surprised by the value of the cameos. I sold one on Ebay on auction last year and ended up getting around 150.00. Totally unexpected!

LOVE the hair today pretty lady.. and the light pink on you, the hair & earrings frame your pretty face so nicely
Ohhhhh, you bought some great items at the auction. Those perfume bottles are lovely. The bookends are great - I agree about them being a fantastic decor item. Just have to say that you are amazing. Love watching your videos about the treasures you find, the info you offer on items, and online sales. You have a great eye! Kudos and many thanks 😎
Love your gray/white metal panels hanging on your wall!!! Also your earring are so fun!!!
Karen, I have several pieces of Baldwin brass...actually I have two of the brass sconce you showed. I was told it is called a captain's sconce. Historically, it was hung on the wall and it has the ability to hang straight as the ship is moving. I love mine.
Everything is beautiful and so so well priced. I wish I would have been there you and I would have been in a bidding!!
Thanks for the clothing haul!
Another great video! I think that pink poodle might be for holding lipstick tubes on a vanity.
Could the painted black vase be an Italian Bitossi? It's beautiful! I'm still on the hunt for a Bitossi piece. Congrats!
That one basket you said the auction house stated they listed navajo basket is not a navajo basket. Just to let you know
The fisherman’s sweater would cost 350 new. Quality no poly is that piece of art.
The Poodle MIGHT be a Lip Stick Holder that sits on a Dressing Table.
Karen I believe the Disney shirt is called a "Spirit Jersey" and they sell for very good money. Check comps. Great find!
Thank you!!💜
Yes to the mixed haul!! 👍🏻😃
Great tiger t shirt in the year of the tiger!
I'm South African and I didn't even know that Zulu baskets look like that , at least I learned something about my country .
Wonderful video! Thank you. I learn so much from you.

Most enjoyable! Loved quite a bit.
Beautiful item's Karen, sounds like you had a great time! I love your hair too❤ Thank you and take care... xo...hello to Mellisa and Bear, hope that she is feeling better..💖🙏
Karen, yes the red one is Balinese Wooden Mask from Barong Mytology🤩 The tiger one? I have no idea 🤭🤭
I believe the pink poodle may have been a lipstick holder as my sister had a similar one from the 60’s!
Karen Love you in that Green ! When you run comps at the thrift store, do you find a cozy corner ?
I wish!! 😁 no, im checking comps on the run!

I also have the poodle in white. They are lipstick holders.
Another awesome video! Love the stuff you picked up! Auctions are so fun!
YAY! 37 mins..😊 cant wait to watch whilst i drink my first cup of coffee..
Hi, Karen! Loved the mixed haul...but I think you broke "shoes in every haul tradition" lol 😂 keep it up! Love you videos!
Enjoyed the mix haul. Thank you!!!!
I just got a small version of a mask like the one on the left. It says from Bolivia and souvenir for their Miss Bolivia Universo Claudia Tavel.
Wowzer, you got some fabulous treasures at the auction! Congrats, Sweetie! Love your channel!
Well Karen done Oh my goodness the horse blanket so lovely!!!!!. Can I just add that you are looking stunning my dear. Best wishes to you and the family from Scotland xx
I think the pink poodle is a lipstick holder
Auctions are fun but you have to be careful not to get caught up in the emotion of the moment and bid too much!
Wow I love ❤ your jacket. Did you buy that at one of your bargain hunts? Love it.
Probably the thrift store 😁👍
Appreciate your haul of auction finds 👍
