ahhh yes, my favorite part of the day. curling up in bed listening to Joel 😭incredibly thankful for you. it might sound silly but your videos are one of the only things that help relax my mind and drift off to sleep🖤
There's a few errors in the Salem Witch Trials. Off the top of my head: The Hammer of Witchcraft was a weird conspiracy-theorist rant for witch-hunters whose author claimed that a cleric was a co-author to make it reputable--apparently, the guy protested but nobody's been interested enough to stop pretending he wrote the book. Giles Corey refused to plead because if the trial got past that point, his property was entirely forfeit, traditionally to his accuser--but if he died without pleading, his heirs would still inherit. He knew he was going to die, but he wanted the best outcome for his heirs.
This was a great video, a sad look at some of humanity’s history but you did an excellent job with background and details, and being respectful to the victims and their stories. RIP to all those poor innocent souls 💔
I hear all kinds of supernatural, ghost, and creature stories, but the most horrifying, cruel, horror stories are of humans ability to inflict so much pain and torture on other humans and other innocent creatures. There are no words effective to describe these horrible actions. Pure evil.

Thank you for including a story from Mexico my man. Mexico is rich with these type of stories slot of story tellers are missing out on tons of material. Great job!!!! 👍
Unit 731... any Dark Pictures fans in the audience? Especially with the location being Japan occupied Manchuria, and the details of the horrific experiments performed on POWs, I would think it's safe to say this is the place that formed the basis for the place where "Manchurian Gold" was first manufactured. The heartless manner of the experiments, the use of various viruses and vivisections, also makes me think of Resident Evil's own Umbrella corporation.
The last 2 stories should be heard by everyone, it's important for people to know this history. I watched an interview recently where just about every person had no idea what the Holocaust was.
"The Hammer of Witches" is not a manual for witches. It's a 1486 manual for witch hunters, written by Heinrich Kramer (a churchman) in Germany. It's also known by its Latin title "Malleus Maleficarum" (literally "The Hammer for the Evil", i.e. a destructive instrument to deal with evil forces) or by its German title "Der Hexenhammer" (literally "The Witch-Hammer", i.e. the meaning is closer to "The Hammer for (the destruction of) Witches"). It IS the most definite compendium on witches, demons and other unholy forces, but its main purpose is to explain how to recognise and destroy them, not to conjure up demons. So... if Tituba was quoting *that*, she may have been closer to being a witch hunter than being a witch. I don't know how she would have gotten her hands on this book - it was very popular all over Europe and translated into many languages, but Salem in North America was a bit off the usual book salesmen's tracks. Anyway, I can imagine, that as a black or mixed woman from the Caribbean she would have adhered to a syncretic faith like Voodoo or Santeria, where Christianity mixed with African and Native American beliefs. So she may have had a very basic, literal understanding of fending off bad spirits, and if she had access to that book, she may have seen it as a source of words, that repelled evil. Meaning, she wasn't trying to cast a spell as a witch, but trying to use a protective prayer, to fend off witches.
Salem really is a knarly piece of our history. It's quite insane how the judicial system accepted the accusations and then would change laws to fit their criteria. Thanks again Joel!
In reference to the Witch Trials: this happened again in the 1950's with Sen. Joseph McCarthy leading a "witch hunt" for communists during the height of the Cokd War. This prompted Arthur Miller to write his famous play "The Crucible" which took place during the Witch Trails but was an allegory of contemporary America at that time.

The thing about the Salem witch trials is that we can look back now and recognize extreme mental illness and even psychedelic use. The theory goes that on their harvest that year, the conditions were just right in the storehouse for psychedelic growth. People were tripping, and on top of it all the power complex of the church was tearing a hole in itself
Apropos of Salem: "A population quite contumelous", indeed. Many years ago, my high school put on "The Crucible". At that age i found it all thoroughly upsetting. It's also quite odd how all the victims as well as almost every accused "witch" were female, and nearly all of the accusers as well as the punishers were male. Very telling, those facts.
