I was a sophomore when Columbine happened. School shootings were already an epidemic by that day in 1999. My own city had suffered thru a school shooting a couple years before. I can't say that video games,. music, or politics were the reason those two killed so many of their classmates. Maybe Bullying was the greatest reason. The failure of adults allowed Columbine to happen. Bullying is one of the leading causes of death in our young people. Be it from gun violence or by taking their own lives.

I'd like to say 2 things about the columbine one, 1. Eric and Brooks cussed each other out and were laughing at each other, but when Brooks asked about the test, Eric actually said, "it doesn't matter anymore, go home". 2. The death toll was 15, but they did not kill 15 people, they killed 13 before shooting themselves. (2 people outside, 1 teacher in the hallway, and 10 in the library)
Joel, you do a great service to help everyone both with the mundane but also to spread awareness with the stories. As entertaining as your storytelling is, it’s equally helpful in preventing situations with insane people. Keep doing the Lord’s work my friend!

I did a research paper on the Texas City explosion back in high school for a local history project (I live in a nearby town). People thought the city was actually being bombed, and I read an account from a teacher who was terrified, and didn't know whether to have the kids take cover or evacuate. The school was eventually evacuated, but the teacher's story was just wrenching.
I wonder though, if there was a way to prevent this(like simply just sticking with water to put out the original flames?). I'm not an expert by any means but I have feeling it was the captain being cheap instead using effective means to deal with the situation..
Absolutely great posts this round. The photo narration is a spectacular style & one of my favorite sets you do only behind the war letters which are tops
Well, the problem with parents and authorities "not taking it seriously" is that it is not a crime to have v!olent thoughts. Thought is not a crime, and if you ask any psychologist, every human being has v!olent and horrible thoughts that they don't act on. You can't arrest someone for Thinking Bad Things. Unfortunately, there is no way to truly prevent crime. Crime has happened for thousands of years and will continue to happen. It's very sad. I wish that we had better mental health services. But we shut down asylums because people were being ab*sed and because some people thought that holding people against their will was morally wrong. In a way, it is. But there is no way to determine when Bad Thoughts turn into Bad Actions without sending people to a psychologist. And that's expensive.
