I forgot to mention I love your tip on dissolving menthol crystals in FO/EO. I will have to start doing this.

I would appreciate any guidance on estimating the volume of balm this formula will yield so I can select the appropriate container size. I'm looking forward to trying this recipe soon!

@BlackMeadowSoapCo Absolutely! 😊 In the description box, I’ve included the recipe in percentages so you can easily scale it to any batch size you need. This way, you can customize the amount and pick the perfect container. Excited for you to try it out-let me know how it goes! 🙌

Thank you 😊 I had one other question; for the packaging, which is better - a plastic jar or a tin? I have both but don’t know if there would be a reaction with the ingredients in either option. Please advise when time permits, thanks!

Menthol crystals generally don’t react negatively with either plastic or tin, making both materials safe for use in most formulations, including balms. However, there are a few things to consider:
Plastic: Some plastics (especially lower-quality ones) may degrade over time with strong essential oils or menthol, potentially affecting the product's scent or texture. Using high-quality plastic containers (like PET or HDPE) can mitigate this issue.
Tin: Tins are more durable and offer a better seal, but there’s a possibility of corrosion over long periods if there's moisture involved. Generally, though, tins work well with menthol-based products, and many balms use them without any problems.
So, both options should work fine, but always test to be sure!

This recipe would be better without polysorbate 20 (aka tween 20) as it is linked to cancer, allergies, Immunotoxicity, and developmental and reproductive toxicity. Also, I would think using both beeswax and coconut oil would make this balm to firm.

Do you really need the bee wax, or can you just use coconut only?

You need it to thicken it up more and to create that barrier over the skin. If you leave it out, you will end up with more of a body butter
