    I haven't run a radar detector for almost 20 years, for the same reasons that you stated. I've had a lot of really close calls. I recently bought a Uniden R4. I'll never be without one again. Goodbye most of the false alerts and it does an excellent job picking out the local cops. I don't have a problem with speeding on the interstates too much. My problem is that I speed in the rural areas of Alabama and the towns here run a lot of speedtraps. The detector has already saved me at least once.

    Great Video I've run both the Uniden R7 and the escort Max 360c and there both vary similarly in performance you can't go wrong with either one of them. I personally lean towards the escort but it's only because the aesthetics match my vehicles better. I also think the longer you run a radar detector the more you can pick up on their traits and can decipher if it's a real threat or a false signal. Thanks for the vid well done.

    Just purchased a Uniden r4 and it’s performance is impressive to say the least. Just because you have a detector doesn’t mean you can run “ pedal to the metal” anywhere and everywhere, Especially if your leading the pack. In addition, not all Law Enforcement vehicles run radar.
    You have to be smart and understand how each band works and Ka instant on and laser are your two hardest to guard against, especially instant on’s. As for Laser, if your not running a jammer it’s too late and just lets you know you’ve been hit.

    I've been running the R1 for over three years now and it has saved me from many tickets. RDD's are illegal where I live, so I'm running it with the display off and rely only on audio warnings. That's also why there's no point for me to get the R7. As far as the R3 goes, I'm mostly driving on rural areas so I don't need the GPS lockouts.

    Excellent Video. You're story is my story ... Uniden R1, then R3, and now the Uniden R7. On a recent road trip with the R3, I was saved at least a dozen times. I decided I wanted the arrows, faster processing, and extra mute memory points, so bought the Uniden R7 and am looking forward to my next trip. Meanwhile, I use it daily around the city and love the programmable settings for photo enforcement red light and speed cameras; including GATSO. Thanks for sharing.

    We live in WI and drove to visit a cousin in Denver in 2019. Not owning a dectector, bought an R3 to go with my (new to me) 2006 Cadillac STS V8. The R3 alerted many times going through MN and SD. Going home, we were coming downhill into Rapid City, speed limit of maybe 60, slowing to 40 then 30. R3 went crazy, I was too fast, slowed down and a cop was sitting under shade trees near a park. It saved me there alone.
    Then in 2021 we were driving from NW WI to the Dells, on HWY 53 nearing Eau Claire, had the cruise set but speed limit went from 70 to 65. Had just passed some semi's and suddenly there's a grey Charger on my bumper! No alert - caught in a Speed Trap by the WI State Patrol using aircraft!! Trooper told me after glancing at the R3!
    Moral is, most detectors will help in town, esp. any 2 lane entering a small town where the local cop will sit, but if they're using Instant - On or laser, watch out, and on the Interstates they have choppers and Cessna's.

    Mostly laser in MD so far therefore Waze is on it for me

    • @DalHarpJr
      @DalHarpJr ปีที่แล้ว

      Mostly laser in MD? NOT!! Maybe in VA but its mostly Ka in MD. Unidens are garbage for use in the DMV. I have an Escort Max360c that I bought in 2015. Got a speeding ticket in VA in March 2022 via laser @1100ft. Thought it was time for a new radar detector.. Wanted an Escort Redline Max360c, but Escort was all sold out. So I bought a Uniden R4 instead. Auto lockout is a joke! Even when you manually lockout a signal the R4 still doesn't recognize it as a false signal. The red light and speed camera alerts are another joke, where you get an ANNOYING alert that you can't turn off in the settings, that forced me to turn off the red light and speed camera alerts in its entirety. Go to Uniden's website for an upgrade, and they have no such thing. Even Vortex Radar commented on Uniden's lack of upgrades, even for his Uniden R8. Bottom line, I just got an Escort Redline 360c as they're back in stock. I've been running Escorts for over 20 years with good results. My Uniden R4 will be sold, and I will eventually purchase the Escort laser jammer/scrambler to add to my Redline 360c. I may use my Max360c in my daily driver again, as the Uniden just didn't cut the mustard for me. Oh, and for anyone relying just on Waze, good luck with that! If LEO's are not seen, they are not reported to Waze. I've picked up LEO's on my Escort Max360c while running Waze, and there was ZERO alert of an officer on Waze as he picked off a speeder about 100 yards in front of me!

      @mylinuxstruggle5495 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DalHarpJr this is entirely wild you must be doing something wrong. I'm in the DMV I tested it all in D.C / Virginia/ Baltimore hell even Delaware the thing is you have to use it in advanced mode there was a frequency list that literally listed the frequencies for our area turn those on turn off the ones not for our main areas. If you go to another state just run it in highway and that turns on everything. We all know the DMV cops are on some bullshit so they have been trying to cut off there scanners and then flip them on fast. But literal zero problems on the R3. Also when upgrading best practices is to default the detector. It even picks up the little stealth cameras.

    • @DalHarpJr
      @DalHarpJr ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mylinuxstruggle5495 I’ve been using radar detectors for well over 30 years. I went from Bel in the early 90’s to Escorts in the late 90’s and early 00’s. Then I had a very short stint with my Uniden R4 recently, then I came back to Escort.
      I wrote this to say, that I’m very familiar with the set up, operation and use of radar detectors. And thanks to Vortex Radar on TH-cam, I’ve gained even more knowledge about the products I buy.
      My beef with the R4 is not its operation as a stand alone radar detector, but with everything else! Every feature that I bought the R4 for, I have them turned off, due to its poor interface and lack of upgrade. In the DMV, you know all too well about speed and red light cameras. The R4 make an ANNOYING alert as you’re coming up on these cameras that CANNOT be turned off in settings. It also fails to (auto) lock out false alerts, AND false alerts that are manually locked out! So when I drove with the R4, I was CONSTANTLY hitting the mute button, which is a practice I barely did with my Escorts, as their auto/manual lockouts actually work.
      I’m from NYC, with family now in GA all the way up to MA. So I’m up and down the I-95 corridor regularly, and have been doing so for decades! I’ve been in MD for 22 years, and I’ve been working in DC for 14 years. I say this because those are a lot of states and jurisdictions I’m driving through on a regular basis, and I LOVE to drive! So trust me, I’ll never buy another Uniden because the UI is crap, and the lack of upgrades is comical. I’ll stick with the Escort, where I know everything works, even though the range is below that of the Uniden. The Uniden just didn’t work for me!

    One important thing you forgot to mention is that Uniden and other expensive brands are *able to have its software be updated* with the latest software, while cheap Cobra detectors are pre-programmed. So if there's a new radar that came out, Cobra detector might not be able to pick it up.

    Just do the math. Speeding only works when you are driving 6 hours or more and can average 10 mph over the limit. That saves you one (1) hour. Nothing can protect against a cop using instant on and moving locations frequently. I was a professional speeder for 25 years, as a commission only salesman covering three states. I had to make as many calls per day that I could. My valentine saved me many times as well as my situational awareness. You have to learn to use your detector and understand its pros and cons.. The remote display was the best feature because I hid my detector.

    Personally I don’t really care where the cop is if the detector goes off full blast I slow down no matter what. So I prefer the R4 since it’s a newer platform and $100 cheaper right now vs the R7. It’s also smaller so it’s a more stealthy install up high on the windshield.

    I've bought an r3, now here's a question for you, it seems to pick up a lot of false signals in city, and also I've passed cops and doesn't even go off, do the cops have you be taking speeds for if to go off?

    • @eddiemcars
      @eddiemcars  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The good thing is you have an R3 which has built-in GPS.
      Whenever you get a false signal, press mute. Once the false signal is muted, press mute once again. It will store it into MUTE Memory
      Next time you go pass that location, it automatically mute that false signal. Eventually your daily drives will be silent.
      Also switch to city mode while in the city will cut down on false alerts because it reduces the radar detector strength.
      If you pass a cop and nothing happens then that means he didn’t have his radar on.
      Not every police officer is enforcing speed.
