The DVD playback capability is important for me since I have some great concerts from the likes of NIN, U2, Shakira, and others and many of these have the option to play in 5.1 surround sound if the car stereo system is built for it.
I am old and have over 400 CDS. I want to be able to play them in my head unit instead of converting them to mp3, or flac. Also the added ability to play DVDs is great. I have not bought one of these yet, and have been researching units lately, because my Pioneer unit is at least 15 years old, and the maps on it are about 2 years old now. My Pioneer is CD only.
I love mine. I have one installed in my Camaro with the I data maestro kit. Watch Netflix or my kids DVD. The audio controls are more than I could ever ask for lol. Ya... it cost me 900 bucks plus the dash kit
I just put this baby in my WRX 2 days ago man I don't know if any of you guys ever been in the WRX there sound system is f****** horrible I put this Kenwood in there and it screams this radios awesome everything I was looking for sounds great yeah it's a little pricey but you get what you pay for as my old man used to tell me all the time👍
i just got the 2019 flagship, dnx996xr. bought it from facebook marketplace for $600 talk about a deal. man, kenwood is still killing it with sound quality and features. i just t-tap the light green wire to the ground and i can play movies while driving its much easier than pioneer and alpine. the eq with time alignment and 3 way crossovers made my system sound amazing. kinda jealous you got your ddx9907 for the same price. i like that your version has 4 camera inputs and you can have 5 phones paired at the same time, i have teenagers wanting to pair once they get in and its like going into battle. this feature would help lol. anyway man nice video
Great video. I have a 2016 Tundra with an older version kenwood dnx893s and i love all the sound enhancement options. I have a newer wireless Pioneer in my Sienna and the screen froze up for a long time. Pioneer was no help. But anyway I been thinking about the Tesla style head unit.
I've needed a aftermarket head unit for a while and I've felt getting a unit with a screen where I can see a GPS even though I have a garmin unit but using Waze would be better. I saw this unit and now it's $1,100 which is a lot and I've had a sub and speakers but just haven't been able to hook them up to my stock CD player in my 2015. I could get a bigger screen like you mentioned but those I think are more expensive and weigh more. I don't know but 2022 is the year I should get my car sounding better on the inside.
CD DVD is a great feature and if you don't use it you didn't need this model. The 06xr is the same unit without the player. There are those however with back catalogs of CDs and even those who like DVD when say...waiting at the airport. The model above this is the exact same plus nav. The thing with nav is you have to pay for the map updates. They do not auto update.
This is too much money for someone who isn't going to use all the features. I have last year's model. The 9906xr. I also use sirus/xm satellite radio, have dual hard-drives connected via the USB inputs in my glove box. One for music, and one for movies. A PS3 and a TV tuner connected to the AV input, dual headrest monitors, and of course the rear backup camera. Needless to say, I get my use out of it. Also, you do NOT need to hook up the parking brake cable, to the parking brake. You only have to connect it to a simple ground anywhere behind your dash and it will play video while the vehicle is in motion.
Why would you buy head unit that had a DVD player when in the video you say you don’t watch any DVDs? The reason they have it is because you can put a DVD in and watch a movie on monitors in the backseat while you listen to music in the front seat! Or you can put a CD in if you have children so they can listen to something in the backseat and you can listen to whatever you want in the front! Apparently you have not read through the instruction manual! Now somebody may say why have a DVD player when you can stream video, Not all movies are available for streaming so you may have to get your movie on a DVD!
@johnathan Thompson Please tell me that this is while you are parked and not moving/driving!?!? If not, you're actually boasting about this?! SMH. That's really safe for you, your kids, and other drivers and/or pedestrians in your path. :-/ NOT! My coworker's nephew in Florida was struck and ultimately killed by a driver who was distracted by watching video on his multimedia stereo's front screen (also had kids watching on screens in the back seat). The driver's kids will forever have nightmares from that experience, and they couldn't even return to their school due to bullying/hate and ridicule from other students. The driver will of course be mentally f'd up for life, and obviously the victim's family as well. At least the driver and his kids will never be prone to doing this in the future. Otherwise his kids would've grown up thinking "it's totally okay and acceptable'' to do this. I almost had a texter driving next to me completely side swipe me and run me off of a 4-lane highway. Luckily I had an opening/somewhere to go without crashing into others when I swerved to avoid her and ended up on the shoulder! She crossed 2.5 lanes of traffic before finally recovering and continuing on as if nothing had happened. SMFH I have the older Kenwood DDX9905S & DDX9906XR and they are great head units. But I NEVER watch TH-cam or Movies/Video while driving. It's music or audio only for me, and I try to use playlists, podcasts, or internet radio stations via Android Auto/ Google Assistant commands to minimize physical touch interactions with the screen. I also have the Idatalink Maestro RR interfaces installed so the Steering Wheel Controls work perfectly and are programmed for multiple functions as well. I have fairly high-end systems with DSP units in both vehicles and the sound quality that these head units provide is among the best available out of all of the other brands and models I've tested.
@Runnin' Wild with Milwaukee Buck! It depends on the interior design and console/button/vent layout of the particular vehicle, but in general, yeah, it's not the best solution. I would guess that these would be very attractive to thieves as well.
I just saw this!! I want to go between Pioneer 4660NEX and the Kenwood DDX9907XR. I dont want NAV or CD/DVD, so do you have an opinion? Im installing in my 2013 Rock Warrior :) Replacing aa Alpine INE-W927HD, which I always hated.

Did you ever try switching that *On* to see what it does??? I'm curious if it makes all or just some of the Text for the Artist name, Album name, and Track name SMALLER so more of the names or text fits on the screen without it having to scroll (painfully slow) through longer names? I had the previous DDX9905S, and when trying to search or choose tracks from my USB thumbdrive it was incredibly frustrating because it would show so few characters of the names on screen. I'm wondering if this "Small Audio Text" setting will allow more of the titles or track names to show on the screen (without having to scroll) on the DDX9907XR? For instance, if you had multiple Remix versions of the same song, I couldn't see which version was which unless I manually tapped the screen to start slowly scrolling the title (a painfully slow and dangerous process while driving), such as: New Order - Blue Monday (Album Version) New Order - Blue Monday (DJ Sir Mixalot Frantic Mix) New Order - Blue Monday (Stone Cold Chilled Mix) ...Etc. On the DDX9905S screen, it would only only show "New Order - Blue M" !!! Unfortunately, even with all of its screen position adjustments, my vehicle cannot accommodate the new Kenwood 10.1" floating screen unit without it blocking my air vents and other important dash buttons/controls. :-(
What if your car already has a factory back-up camera? Will this system work with that camera or do you have to buy an aftermarket backup camera as well?
You literally bought a radio with a six and three-quarter inch high resolution screen, And you ask why would they put a DVD player in it! I guess some people have more money than brains! You could have literally bought the DMX907S which is the same exact unit as yours except for the CD, DVD player, And you could’ve saved a few hundred dollars!
I didn’t buy this unit. I had bought the lower end unit and it didn’t work. The retailer exchanged it and gave me this one. I said that in the video. Hope that clarifies

I’m going to be upgrading my 21 Pro. I would do this headunit because of CD player. Nothing sounds better that a CD.

The difference between this one and the DNX997XR is that resolution of the screen in the DNX is 720p right and the one you own is 480p right?

As I said in the video. I didn’t buy this unit. It was exchanged bc the unit I bought was defective and they upgraded me free of charge to this unit.

Buddy Goberdhan yes there is. It’s a widget and you can remove it if you don’t like it

It does but still doesn’t shrink enough for the text to scroll.

Yes it will work. Just make sure you have the right items to keep your factory camera
