As a Liverpool fan, I grew up watching some great strikers - Rush & Saunders, Aldridge, Fowler then Owen & Torres and Sturridge & Suarez and now Salah and Darwin? (TBD) But I couldn’t wait for Saturday morning and possibly the best show on TV…..channel 4’s Golazo show and a chance to watch one of my all time favourites GABRIEL BATISTUTA aka Batigol…..!!! Fiorentina are my ‘2nd team’ and to this day, there hasn’t been a striker I’ve seen quite like him. He was absolutely iconic in looks and style and struck those golazo’s like he was trying to kill the ball. He was an absolute beast but, by all accounts, a gentleman as well - rare in the modern game to say the least. I suppose the closest we had to Batistuta in the UK was Alan Shearer, who although was excellent himself, couldn’t hold a candle to the one and only Batigol. Batistuta and Fiorentina…..a match made in heaven! It’s just a shame Fiorentina can’t quite make it out of their mid-table malaise, but here’s hoping they come back stronger one day soon (& keep any further talents out of Juve’s grubby little fingers!) 😂 ⚜️Forza Viola⚜️
