- In this video we are exploring Big Tancook island. Big Tancook island is located on the South Shore of Nova Scotia in Canada. You have to take a 1 hour ferry ride from the town of Chester in order to get here. Many of the homes (about 125) are seasonal, but a select few, including my parents, have chosen to make this their home.
Go with me as we drive around the island in a Ford Model T and a Chevy Deluxe. Here you can see the ocean and what life on the island looks like!

The ferry can likely sit 50 people. Seeing that there are only about 125 people who live on the island it does it's job, lol. Oh yes, we have a couple of the old cars. That Ford Model T was the first type of car ever made.
Fun video. I worked on Tancook 30 years ago and went back with my daughter and wife a few weeks ago (we live in Halifax, she is from Chester) Nothing has changed out there from 30 years ago. I love it. I want to live there.
Thanks! I have one more (by drone) that you may like as well. Haha, nope, I don't think much will ever change. My parents have been living there for 3 years or so now and love it. It wouldn't be a lifestyle for everyone, but it suits their retired life just fine.

They have a lot of small birds and animals on the island. There are also a lot of deer, but we didn't see any on this trip actually. So that is WEIRD! Thanks so much for watching!

The ferry can be a fun part of the trip. Yes, this one is a bit different since it also transports supplies to and from the island (same with vehicles). Yes, I am glad he has kept them in working condition. They are a relatively new addition, so they haven't been part of the family for long. Hahaha, you have that right about the phone not being in the purse - that would have been bad!

I am glad you liked it! Yes, this is a great little community. The journey can be fun if the weather is nice, but other days having to take a boat is a pain! The cars are wonderful and the dogs are a lot of fun! They really love living out on the island!
One of my teachers growing up was from Nova Scotia he always raved about how beautiful it was! I can see why. Great editing work excited to see where you take us next
There are some really beautiful places here in NS, that's for sure. The next little series of videos are going to be taking place in Nova Scotia in Cape Breton in the National Park there. They have our tallest mountains, so there are some great hikes and such to look forward to!

Yeah, it's a really cool place they live now! It's nice to get home now and then. It' an hour drive and then an hour ferry ride from the city. You have to plan your day though when you come visit as the ferry only runs a couple times a day! The cars were a blast!

Yeah, the cars are a blast! That was our first time taking them out like that since my parents moved to the island. Haha, poor Tanvi and her bag. It did survive though!

Yes, my parents moved there a couple of years ago and love it! It's a different lifestyle, that's for sure! You wouldn't want to do it if you had to take that ferry every day to go to work and back though! Ahaha yup! I am just like them!
Nice video. Looks like a peaceful town. We love old cars. We go to a huge classic car show every Thanksgiving in Daytona Beach, FL.
Oh yes, this is a very quiet town, but that's why my parents chose to move here! The cars are great. It's wonderful when the days are nice and they can take them out to keep them running good!
I'm not really sure why but I absolutely love Ferrie's, there's something about it, the ride looked like the one we took in washington. Cool car btw!
I just love being on the water. The ferry ride is wonderful in the summer. In the winter you can stay inside, but the hour feels a lot longer in the winter, lol. Weren't the old cars awesome?
The model T is cool but I really like the Chevy Deluxe! It was really cool that you were able take it out and ride around the island in it!
This was our first time doing it! It was a nice surprise (well, for the girls as they had no idea). It was a beautiful day for it, that's for sure!

It was a fun little trip! We don't get to take the cars out very much, but it's always fun when we do! And it was nice being able to bring some people along to enjoy it as well!
Hey Josh there was nice to meet your mom and dad since I feel like I know you already. Your dad has a really cool collection of classic cars. I did not know that there was a Canadian Thanksgiving.
They haven't had the cars for very long (with the last 3 or 4 years I would say) so it was fun being able to take them out! Yup, our Thanksgiving is in October, not November like yours though.

Yes, our thanksgiving is in October, not November though. The cars are a blast to ride in, but bumpy since the old ford has no short of shocks, lol

Thanks a lot! The old cars are amazing. I am surprised that old Ford runs! And it runs really well. It's so old, that before the electric start was added, you had to (and still can) crank start it from the front. Insane.

Growing up people said I looked like my mom, but now that I am getting older people are saying that I look like my dad - which makes more sense to me, as I look a lot my like dad's dad when he was my age! The old cars are wonderful! So glad we had a chance to take them out for a while!

Haha oh yes, the ford is like a golf cart for sure. Kinda rides like a tractor - no shocks on that baby, lol. You feel every bump, lol. So much fun though to ride in it. The island is fantastic. They really do love living there!

That old car looks amazing! East coast is always so relaxing..beautiful. Never heard of Big Tancook island, but looks so peaceful and relaxing.
It is a great place to be. My parents really do love it there. Relaxing is exactly what it is! In the next few videos we'll be going up to Cape Breton - show off the National Park there!

Yes, those are some old cars! The 1924 Ford Model T is one of the first cars ever produced for the general public to give you an idea. So it's super special. Haha, yeah, my mom is special. She did get the spider off though! And you would be shocked, but the pie was in perfect condition! I couldn't believe it, lol
Very cool island and ferry! My grandparents used to live on Vashon Island outside of Seattle. They resisted ever building a bridge to the island to reduce having large numbers of people move to the island and ruin the small town, rural feel. That was one of our favorite things to do as kids, to ride the ferry to visit them. Love the old car. That looks like a really cool place your parents live! Is that where you grew up?
Oh nice! I am glad that you can only get to the island with a ferry. Most of the people that have homes on this island are seasonal residents. My parents are one of the handful that now live there full-time. They didn't even have running water to the house when my parents moved in - but they do now. My parents have only been there a couple years ago now. I grew up in another part of NS called the Annapolis Valley. Another small community, but in a very different community (farm land mostly).

Lets just say they decided the spring would be better suited under the seat than on the wheels! I don't think you would want to take any long trips in this puppy! You bounce around quite a bit on these old dirt roads!

It was an amazing day for sure! It's always nice when the weather is right to take the cars out and run them for a bit. Hahaha, maybe. They may be all adopted-out though as they just adopted 2 kitten a couple weeks ago!
