Aptera is not cheap and a very good chance it will never go into production. If saving money is your priority, then buying a good used car for around $5K is a better choice. If you want an EV, there are plenty of good used EV priced $15K or less that are much more practical than the Aptera. Sorry to burst your bubble on Christmas Eve but that is the reality.

I think the Aptera is really cool, but in my case I bought a used Honda Fit for $4000, and I could fit 2 dressers in the back and I can even sleep in the back. Right now that's all I can afford, and it's more practical than an Aptera.

As I suggest on a TH-cam video with address ending /watch?v=warVVm5PUZo, you're already building a charging system into your vehicle so why not just put in an expansion port so we can park next to an array at our homes and plug in to accelerate the solar charging? It just seems like a logical thing to do if you want to add value and give people another great reason to buy your product. If it's as easy as plugging in a DC connector to a socket and having your car's solar array circuit run through my solar panel array on their way to the charge controller, the cost on your part is a different charge controller, a SPDT switch, and a DC receptacle and possibly wire upgrade to handle the increased voltage. I'm going to put this idea into every Aptera video I can find until you put it into your vehicle. I want every person who sees these videos to watch for your response to such a common sense idea so we can all know what your team does when an obvious win is offered on a silver platter.

Most people already don't drive a small lightweight vehicle. Trucks and SUV's dominate the US market.
The question is this: are we trying to convert people to EV, or are we trying to convert people to smaller more efficient transport? I think the former is more realistic than the latter.
That's why I see Aptera as a "mark one" product, and the company can expand the product line to include something to go up against trucks and SUV's at a later date. But, see, you have to meet the consumer where they are at for most of them -- you can't expect them all to go ga-ga over a three wheeled super aerodynamic vehicle and suddenly ditch their F150's and Explorers. Most consumers, meaning the mainstream customers, are going to want to buy something that looks, drives, and functions like the vehicle they are already driving. That means trucks/SUV's unfortunately.
Does not mean Aptera will not be wildly successful. Aptera is going to grab every single customer who can deal with a two seat platform. It's free transportation, essentially, and if you don't drive much you may even be putting electricity back into your house batteries. It's revolutionary on a scale most people don't get yet. They have to see it and feel it before they will understand it (which is sort of how EV adoption works too -- most people are not convinced until they drive or live with an EV, then the lightbulb goes on).
Kicking and screaming will we be dragged into the EV future. Kicking and screaming.

“Every electron counts”, don’t say that to an electrical engineer 😂 (I am an EE). I like that statement. The Aptera design is still miles ahead of the EV competition, now it has to prove itself on the car market, very high change of success and a very good development for the consumer. This PI is only the first Aptera version in production, and ugrading this version with the latest tech in future is going to be awesome. Game changer.

  • @charlesbeane8795
    @charlesbeane8795 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

There's no argument that a super efficient vehicle like the "Aptera concept" would have a small market. A lot of us are interested in efficiency and hate waste. However, the tide of worldwide R&D is going towards fusion, small modular reactors, and batteries. The future is about generation and storage, not commercializing solar racers.
Personally I love the idea of a car I can charge off of a few panels. I'd rather make my own power. I love the concept of a car I can repair myself. I love the concept of a car that is easily upgradable and lasts for decades. I love the concept of going 1000 miles on a single charge. What's not to like?
Given that, it is beyond my comprehension why people will stick their necks out defending a company that has yet to demonstrate even the most fundamental of these claims. You don't know these guys, and you have never seen or driven one of their cars. They tell a great story but the facts are thin.

Remember, that $26K model is 250 miles of range and up to 16 miles of solar. The specs of that model seem to be left out over and over again. Then there's no idea as to when they will actually start building that version. My version of the Aptera is $53K. Yet nobody want's to talk about that version or when it will ever come out.
All that I keep hearing is 1000 mile range and up to 40 miles per day on solar, all starting at $26K. It would be like Ford telling people that the Mustang has 800 hp and a top speed over 190 mph. All starting for $32K.

It is cheap for the US Market. Move to China if you want to compare prices like that. It’s not only relatively cheap to buy, the cost to operate is many times cheaper than any other vehicle. For the launch edition ($34,500), it’s roughly $500 a month for the vehicle payment over 6 years BUT you have no fuel cost, very low maintenance, and motorcycle insurance making it cheaper to own than even a $10,000 gas car all while making the world a better, safer place for future generations 🏎️☀️

Also, I asked my insurance company and they refuse to give me a quite on the Aptera as it does not exist. I know others must know the insurance costs as their insurance companies seem to quote them a price yet nobody posts what it actually will be.

      Aptera (Full Solar Package):

      • Loan Payment (6 years @ 4% APR): ~$421/month
      • Fuel Cost: $0

      • Loan Payment (4 years @ 6% APR): ~$234/month
      • Fuel Cost: ~$175/month
      • Maintenance: ~$1,200/year

@@shrimptopian3392 - Tesla was being bankrolled by Elon and he was ready to stop investing money into it. Yet the company mustered through it all while Aptera closed it's doors and everyone lost their job. The EV industry back then was relatively new and companies pretty much had to design and develop everything from scratch. Tesla had to battle all of the EV naysayers.
Fast forward to today. Aptera 2.0 will be 6 years old come March. They have the luxury of using off the shelf components in a much more mature industry where there is a charging infrastructure and people accepting EV's to be mainstream. Actually, for Aptera, they have it way easier than Tesla ever did.
I would rather compare Tesla to Aptera during the same time period. One succeeded and the other failed. Instead, others insist on comparing 2008 to 2024. Then keep repeating it over and over again.
