- This video was recorded (I think in september of 2013) and uploaded to TH-cam, however it was not publicly listed. IT SHOWS THAT WHEN YOU RUSH (like I did) YOU WORK TWICE THE TIME TO FIX IT!
At that time I was making several plates with these walnut/mahogany segmented blanks.
It's a great way to make wider plates.
excellent gift idea too! people love it! - บันเทิง
Why do I find watching your videos to be so relaxing??? 🙂
Great Job has always Jake, beautiful set of platters, Thanks for sharing. Regards Harry
Thanks Harry! The feeling from eating from these wooden plates is definitely interesting. It's a bit of a nice change from ceramic to less noisy plate :)
Cheers
Hi Jake! How do you attach that wood piece to the lath, could you make a video for beginners:)
You did an awesome job!
Great job, I am new to turning and you just make it look effortless. I hope to have the confidence in my tools that you have, one day. Its great watching you work. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks Butch! It takes some time to learn how the tools work, and once you master that, the rest is pretty much a piece of cake. Safe turning.
Beautiful plates. Well done
thanks for the compliments!
Gorgeous! Wow!
Just beautiful!!!!
All I can say is WOW, great stuff... :)
Thank you Ken for the compliments!
Hi Jake! I like the plate. I like the ROS sanding trick. Never thought about trying that. I will have to give it a whirl!
Brett
Hey Brett, hey bud don't use the random orbital sander, for some reason the sander became just an orbital sander. I think it's not designed for lathes :) but I like the orbital sander idea too (just too bad I had to buy another sander for the shop, or maybe it's a good thing lol)
I have to make a food plate for my technology GCSE coursework. I'll keep this video in mind.
Great Job man!!!
Thanks Vitor!
great plate Jake
nice finished
All the best Robbie
Thanks Robbie! This is my most preferred finish :)
Enjoyed watching the plate tutorial. Did you drill the starting recess for the chuck or turn it between centers?
Thanks Beth!
I just turned it in between centers, however I was planning to cut the first recess with a foster bit (bummer is I didn't have a 2-¼" bit lol)
$ ?
this kinda pushes me to do woodworking
Great video . Really nice finish.
Thanks Robert
very nice. What is the wax you are using?
Thanks for sharing Sir. Would you please share, what was the yellowing liquid that you applied to the front of the plate @ minute 31:55?
sir which wood ur using on plate making?plz can tell me what is the best for making this kind of plate?
I am interested to purchase, where can i get the machines
how much is it each wooden plate, thanks guy Nice job!
What beautiful work ! I 'am motivated ! What are the approximate dimension of the plate ?
I'm glad John. I think it's around 8" diameter.
what is the useing wood
What's the shining yellow object?
awesome plates what is the finish you use I seen the wax that part is easy to figure but what was the liquid in the bottle
Thanks Paul! It's walnut oil in the bottle. Originally it came in a glass bottle, so I had to put it in a plastic one, so it didn't break. What Walnut Oil does to BeesWax is that it makes the friction faster and makes the wax to melt faster.
jake whats the best way to seal it for food ..
For food that's not hot, like salads, fruits, I use the bowls finished with bees wax and walnut oil. I haven't tried eating from the wooden bowl when eating hot meals.
Jake what is the cost of this making macine
Awesome work as always :)
:) thanks
awesome job!. How thick were the blanks to start with?
Cheers, Kirk
Thanks Kirk, these were ¾" thick blanks
Those must have been some big bees to get a hunk of wax that large! ha ha
it was this bee The Bee / Exclusively filmed for The29Nov Films
What did you put on the top of the plate in addition to the beeswax, in the gatorade bottle.
It was walnut oil.
Fabulous grain! Is that a chunk of bee's wax?
Yep :) it's still big after so many finishes :)
Fantastic Jake
Thanks Allan!
What was that item/finish at 13:06?
Yui Yuighama it’s beeswax
I love it. What's in the spray bottle ?
Awesome plates Jake! I noticed that you used bee's wax and walnut oil to finish them. Ever tried carnuba wax instead of bee's wax? I've heard that carnuba wax is harder than bee's wax and may last longer??? Anywho, your plates are awesome and almost to nice to use! Thanks for sharing and safe turning to you!
Thanks Kenn! Honestly I haven't tried carnauba wax in a dry form. And as far as the beeswax, I noticed that it turns into a parafine white when there's heat and moisture. But that's an easy fix with some oil treatment :)
estupendo trabajo
Gracias Antonio
Thanks !!
Hi Jake, Newbe here, just wondering what is in the spray bottle
7484tsmith hi, it's just water. Helps to minimize dust
What is cost of machine? All sets
That's a lot of sanding!!!!!!!!
I think you can do it yourself, just watch and learn from Woodglut.
have you eat hot meals with that?
I have.
+Jake Gevorgian is it okay?
+Aqly Bilal yep
+Aqly Bilal ive planed to make some for my campus canteen, thanks for ur help brother😀😀😀😃😃
Aqly Bilal you're very welcome! Remember not to wash it in a dishwasher. We used warm water to clean it and dried it right away.
I bought instruction from woodprix and I build it very very cheap.
