Ok, Tekno didn't invent the 1/10th scale Truggy, that was actually HoBao. Thing is, when HoBao came out with the Hyper TT10e, most companies betted on it being a fad and ignored the new class, except for Traxxas which came out with the Rustler 4x4 but that wasn't intended for racing. And as a result, the class died off after a couple years. Tekno and XRAY brought it back.
The whole "I don't care if it's good, I ain't buyin' it 'cause it's not got the reputation" thing is what killed Tenth Tech, Durango and Team Magic and nearly killed JQ Racing, and I'm kinda surprised that it didn't kill Tekno. If people had that same mindset back in the days of racing Astutes, Associated would be just another "on road brand that thinks they can do off road" and Losi wouldn't even exist today. Nor would Traxxas, actually. They may be a huge pain in the ass for the hobby today but they did also contribute to its growth, and way back in the early days they did actually not only make competitive racing models, but even focused primarily on them. If the TRX1 and TRX3 were just kicked to the curb like what happens with new cars from new brands today, well... there'd be a lot less corporate bullshit in the hobby but the hobby would be a lot smaller as well... assuming it manages to survive the downturn it experienced in the late 2000s at all.
Ok, the MRO is the embodiment of everything wrong with the direction 1/10th scale off road has taken. A design like that I don't see ever running well on anything other than its intended surfaces. It's less a buggy and more a 4WD F1 car that can take jumps. Heck, in your turf track footage, the car shows terrible bump handling, getting bounced around all over the place on turf. I'm sure it's a great technical achievement and it looks pretty sweet on its own, but I feel that every continued push towards these overspecialized carpet cars is going to continue to make the sport less and less accessible.
Recently there's also G-Force RC from Japan that released their first kit , the Genova designed with Masami. Its a weird take on retro design but for modern track ? They call it an entry level kit but the price kinda isn't. Anyway , good video as always.
That Gforce Genova is another release of the same generic buggy that JEGS started selling as the 'Stinger' months earlier. Masami only had input on the body and wing: the basic 2wd platform is from a nameless asian factory - and Gforce slapped their stickers on it.
Traxxas is an OLD brand at this point, and they also don't really make any racing vehicles outside of Slash and Bandit spec classes (and they're also the source of a lot of corporate BS today). But back in the day they had the TRX1 which was actually a pretty competitive buggy for its time, and then later the TRX3 which is the predecessor to the Bandit. XRAY's been around for a while, they're just a bit obscure in the US where people tend to shun anything that isn't Associated or TLR. But XRAY's won several IFMAR events. They popped up in 2000 but company founder Hudy Jiraj has been designing and building high-performance RC race cars since the 70s back in the early days of pan cars derived from competitive slot car designs.
Since you commented I've been doing some research on them recently. They're a pretty good racing brand based in Taiwan I believe and they make more budget friendly cars
Semantics. I sold the JQRacing cars and stock, and the rights of my future cars which would be Mayako instead. I then rebranded JQRacing to JQSM, JQ Scale Motorsports
Damn, youve recently came to my track. Phil hurd, I would love the chance to meet you and talk to you for a second. I enjoy your videos brother. My name is Greg Smith. In real life, if by chance love to talk to you in person. Thanks for the good videos !🦀🦀🦀
I appreciate the kind words Greg. However I actually haven't been to Phil Hurd yet. I just met a few guys who race there at Wicked Weekend. I plan to visit one day, I just need to plan for it.
Great presentation. You deserve alot more subscribers!
I'd love to hear about a history of a company like Tamiya.

I almost bought a Tekno but decided to go with the devil I already know

@@MikeKirkReloaded Yeah I saw that before buying one luckily , pretty terrible sadly
@@warracer03 If you're still interested, JEGs is selling the Stinger (and ST version) for $50 RTR now. That's a steal!
What about Traxxas and Team X-ray????

Know anything about PR Racing?
Its not a new company I guess. But I haven't heard much about them

You should make a discord server it would be very popular
Just for the record, Joseph did not sell JQ Racing
I thought he did. Sorry for that 😕
