>Buddha put the foundation to the Sangha system , which eventually compiled the Tripitakas that extensively became primary source for Buddhist Dhamma spread whereas Ashoka was the king with already existing ready administrative, political base to spread his dhammas.
>Buddha utilized his enlightenment, teachings, experiences to create concious world(right or wrong , ethical/not) whereas Ashoka primarily wanted to stabilize,expand and familiarise his empire which needed principled,loyal , peaceful subjects.
>Budhha most prominently had already left the worldly affairs while teaching his dhamma whereas Ashoka was teaching his dhamma while he was on the throne (world-here being empire affairs )

Similarities:
