    Ah the horror that was driving a series 1 farm master for the first time you steered it and got your arse thrown out of the seat, the envy of those lucky hoors in Volvo L50's and Clarke Michigan's who had the articulation point in front of them...
    The little things on.y those who've buckraked silage can appreciate.
    Great memory video by the way, near she a tear when I seen the 'Gandy' powder applicator...I was 16 again.......don't gate me started on those bastard things :-)

    I wonder who the lucky lad was to have a brand new 300 series Massey!

      Far luckier lads in the john deeres!!! MF 300 series were good but no way as comfortable or as lasting as the john deeres of that time. But john deere were more expensive its true.

    Some outfit back in the day. Good variety. Always thought the MF 595 must’ve been some machine. Never seen one but there was a few 590s around here and they were pretty hardy tractors. But I noticed on a farming forum a few years back the 595 was voted worst tractor ever. Obviously one o MFs disasters. We had a 690 with tb turbo conversion. The 595 surely wasn’t as bad as it

    Can someone tell me how did that john deere 2650 not slip of the side of the pit when it was rolling ? Especially with it being so rough and lumpy..

    • @dominicmcaleese5257
      @dominicmcaleese5257  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brendan Hough yes that's the way the big man (Sam) operated, flat out. Rolling the silage is just about knowing how far you can push it.
      I was about 14/15 at one time on the same pit and pushed it above my ability. I had the shame of handing it over to a more experienced driver. Lol

  • @scoyle1750
    @scoyle1750 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The buckraking is a bit ropey as the pit is looking a bit of a mess, I used to buckrake with a 575 mf and even buckraked with a 135 mostly with the front wheels in the air but great times👍

    The sensible and cheap way to make silage - no need for all this separate cutting then wilting and picking up nonsense we have today. The cows enjoyed double chopped just as much as precision chop!

    That’s awful messy pit work. They were just dumping the grass , not continuing up the pit to pack it. The edges looked like there would be a foot of waste come wintertime.
