The farming TV programmes always seemed to be on Sundays in the Anglia region as a child, and as there was not a lot else to watch I found them quite interesting. My school used to take us all to the Royal Norfolk Show every year and just as most kids love new sports cars some of us lusted after the latest tractors and combines, and collected the brochures.😄
I'm quite surprised your mother managed to get this - Tyne Tees weren't the best at keeping stuff in their archives and a lot of stuff like this was lost in the early 1990s after the Yorkshire TV takeover as well (this was shown in some other areas of the country but was deemed to be "regional" and of no commercial value, more's the pity). This may be the only copy in existence at this point so it's great that you've uploaded it for posterity! Have to say the content is both fascinating and frustrating - it sums up all that has been wrong with this country for generations - no-one is prepared to invest for the long-term, with the result that we produce nothing here any more.

Yes, my mum could charm the birds from the trees, bless her, and that is, no doubt, how she managed to persuade some kind soul at Tyne Tees, to go to the trouble of finding this programme for her and supplying her with a VHS copy (entirely free of charge, I may add). It is sad because my Grandad, Tom, always thought his potato harvesting machine was the main achievement of his working life and always thought it would be his great legacy to us (which it should have been - given it's supperior performance to any other such machinery, at the time). Like so many other inventors and visionaries. he was, sadly, thwarted by the short-sighted "pinstripe-types" (as he called them in this video) until he ran out of time and energy - and money (to maintain patents, etc.). A very sad outcome for such a decent and talented man.
It is wonderful, isn't it? My Grandad was Cumbrian - or rather Cumberland - from the top of his flat cap to the soles of his boots. We won't see his like again!
