Hi friends 😘 I hope you enjoy this video! Also, don't forget to check out the pairing blog post: bit.ly/3wjdk8x
Some minor corrections I want to point out in this video:
1, I wrongly pronounced "しゃ(Sha)" in this entire video, apologize for that, my Japanese needs a lot of work 😅
2, when I say Honkaku, Henkaku, they are more used with "mystery" as phrases "Honkaku mystery", "Henkaku mystery" in Japanese, not usually used individually.
3, when I say Honkaku wasn't created, I meant it wasn't used to identify the different styles of Japanese mystery, not that the word did not exist before that
4, at 8:20, the author's name should be Shimada Soji, not Yamada Soji
Thanks for watching
This is such a great video, I'm learning so much! 😍I've only read a couple of Japanese mysteries, and they were 本格、which I really like because the author doesn't hide the one important clue from you, making the mystery impossible to solve 😂
I think 東野圭吾 is the most famous and well-loved living mystery writer in Japan, too! When I go to the used book store his books often take up not a shelf, but an entire bookcase 😱 Him being so prolific doesn't hurt, either hehe. Thanks for making this! 💕
This was great! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this very informative introduction to Japanese mystery, Meonicorn!
Ooh thank you for this very thorough video! I had read Tokyo Island by Natsuo Kirino as a teenager and I had absolutely loved it, now I want to read Out. Pluto is also such a major work of mystery literature!! I read all of them in about a week I think, I was so invested. Excellent recommendations, I have written down a lot of things!
Oh wow, this is such a fantastic video, Meonicorn! I've added tons of books to my TBR, thanks to this.
Thank you
Thank you so much for this video! I've been trying to get into Japanese mystery books and this was amazingly helpful!!
I'm so glad you found it's helpful :D
Hi! please dont stop making videos :) from Philippines
Thank you for this very interesting video. A couple of years ago I read The Devotion of Suspect X and was completely blind sided by the ending! It was great. Since then I've read a few more Japanses mysteries and liked them all. I'll be adding quite a few new ones to my TBR based on your recommendations.
I'm glad you found this video interesting! The Devotion of Suspect X us amazing, one of my fave too! It's so popular so I didn't include it in this video haha. Hope you enjoy some books you found in this video!
Oooh I'm also a huge fan of detective Conan 😍 what a great video idea! I have to say I'm not that familiar with Japanese mystery, but thank you so much for all these recommendations, I'm saving this video for reference for later. Thank you ☺️
Always glad to meet other Detective Conan fan! Haha the series has been going on for so long, it became a part of my life! I'm glad you liked this video 😺
What an amazing video! I don't read much mystery but if I do it's always Japanese. My favorite probably being Natsuo Kirino's Out, and Seishi Yokomizo's The Village of Eight Graves. (And of course I also love Detective Conan.)
Thank you and hello fellow Detective Conan fan
stumbled upon your videos while looking for Convenience Store Women reviews. Interesting point about Chinese translation may be better interpreted. I too noticed when watching Kdrama or Jdrama, Chinese subtitles always made more sense.
While I predominantly read English books, I will read 人間便利店 (my first Chinese novel in many years)
I look forward to reading your recommendations on this video. 柯南 and 金田一 were my favorite Manga growing up!
I'm glad you found something interesting from my video. And I hope you enjoy 人間便利店, and hope you've found some books you like from this video :D 柯南 and 金田一 are so good XD I was obsessed with them when I was little 😂
I enjoyed reading Inspector Imanishi Investigates. Thank you for this video, it will help me find more good books to read.
I’m glad you found this video helpful! And hope you read and enjoy more and more Japanese mystery :D
Thank you for this informative and very helpful video. I'm just starting to discover Japanese mystery novelists so the subgenre breakdown is especially appreciated - leading me to the types of mysteries I'm most interested in. I would also recommend Naomi Hirahara, she is an American-born author of Hiroshima survivors. A number of her novels center the World War II generation who emigrated to California and their adjustment to life in a new country and culture, besides having a mystery to solve.
I'm glad you liked this video! I will check out Naomi Hirahara's works, the way you described them sounds amazing!
Out is an incredible book!
It is :D
"Ubume" is pronounced as in "tOO" with a short sound, and Matsumoto "Seicho" is pronounced as in "SAY-cho."
Ohhh thanks for pointing that out! My Japanese pronunciations are horrible, hopefully I will improve in the future - Japanese is so hard!
@@TheBookishLand yes, I am afraid it is not easy. But Japanese sounds are pretty straightforward once you know the rules. (By the way, thank you for introducing Japanese mysteries. I am glad to see our books are getting more attention!)
Ofc! Japanese mystery is my favorite genre :)
