    Hello UncleMark, I did the job myself but when starting the engine it did start and I run the van a few miles, but it sounds a little out of time synchronization. How can I stnchronize it back? My guess is to repeat the process of 1. aligning the marks to find which one is off, take the belt out , move the Gear or Gears to align to the marks and then out back the belt. Is that right?

    • @unclemarksdiyauto

    Just doing the second 100K service on my 09 T&C. Forgot pointer is on the back of the crank sprocket and was tearing my hair out trying to get the marks on the front of the sprocket to line up with cams. That's what the paper shop manual shows. I must have used the CD manual last time I did this. I'm not figuring to do this again. I'm 77 and probably won't drive it to 300K.
    BTW, I also do all coolant hoses and thermostat at 100K. Much easier in shop that on side of interstate. The lower radiator hose is a booger to get to the clamp behind the A/C compressor. Take bolts and nuts out of compressor and move it aside. It's possible to use straight hose on the rear unit instead of the unobtainable molded hoses.
    Apparently our problem might have been that we didn't take a Tim Horton's coffee break. The commute to the nearest one from Athens GA is fierce.
    All the torque specs are in the factory shop manual.

    • @unclemarksdiyauto

      Very good idea. I probably should have as well. Thermostat is something also always do and new coolant while it’s all apart and out!

    Do you think it would be easier to put the belt on the cams first then fiddle with the crank last where there is more clearance? Asking because I am about to start this on my 2009 VW Routan (Grand Caravan)

    • @unclemarksdiyauto
      @unclemarksdiyauto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! I am not sure there is more clearance at the bottom, but I might be wrong. I guess after you mark the new belt, you can try it that way & if if looks like it is not working the way you figured, do it from the top. Let us know if it worked your way. 10:10 is there a problem if that harmonic pulley is turned before/while unscrewing the Bolt? I am asking because I used a ratchet and turned it about 1 full round before I could finally unscrew the Bolt By wedging a bar between the pulley and the ground.

    Do you have the teeth count on the belt for the marks?

    • @unclemarksdiyauto
      @unclemarksdiyauto  ปีที่แล้ว

      No I don't. Did your belt break while driving, JoAnn? If so, very big chances are the engine is no good.

    • @joannv7486
      @joannv7486 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's still good just the lifters were damaged and the cams and crank were knocked off timing. Everytime I tighten the tensioner, at least one sprocket turns out of timing. I put clamps on the cam sprockets and they still turn about one tooth. I literally took several screenshots of this video around 36:00 and 37:19 and several others. Trying to get the tooth count. I think they are moving because of slack or tightness in the belt. Thank you for responding though ❤

    • @unclemarksdiyauto
      @unclemarksdiyauto  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joannv7486 Your not rotating the engine after the belt is on? Because the tooth count changes on the belt. Also, as you install the belt the lifter pressure on the cams may cause the sprockets to move a bit, so you have to hold that cam from moving until belt is on. Once all timed, the belt tensioner once activated will hold in all in place. As for the damaged caused by belt breaking while running, valves can be bent etc.
