My dad use to take me out there in his Jeep back in 1963 to 1966, there was nothing but a rickety dirt road that had a few scary spots. We explored all over red rock. Sometimes we never saw another car out there. I have so many great memories of hiking and exploring at Red Rock before it was a tourist attraction.
Good job on this video. A few quick notes: 1) Since this video came out, Red Rock has implemented a timed reservation system which is in effect from October 1 through May 31. You will get a 30 minute window to enter the park. You can't enter before or after that window. There is a fee for the reservation. 2) It's not a one track road. It's two lanes, one way. One of the greatest frustrations of locals/regulars is people driving straight down the middle, hogging both lanes, and blocking everyone from going past. 3) As you can see from the great drone footage in this video, Red Rock is drone friendly. Drones are allowed everywhere in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area with the exception of the La Madre Wilderness and the Rainbow Wilderness areas.
@@ChrisGraham8 It's 13 miles around, with a speed limit of 35 mph most of the way. It usually takes around 45 minutes, without stopping. The road is two lanes, one way, but many people don't realize this and just drive straight down the center, blocking anyone from passing. Such is life
Going to Las Vegas next month. And BECAUSE of this video I'm going to red rock canyon while I'm there. Thanks for sharing. Even though this video is from two years ago it still applies 🙏🤗🤸🏾
I travled around the USA in the early 80"s after retiring from the navy. My travels brought me through Red Rock Canyon and to my best memory everything was free!
I had no idea until today (02/22/22) when my friend asked me if we could go visit this place which btw, Ive never been here before but after seeing videos of it we are definately going to vist Red Rock Canyon in May 2022 when we come to Las Vegas on vacation, CANT WAIT!!!!
Fantastic! Yeah it's a short drive from Red Rock Casino & Resort (one of my favourite places to gamble) and Red Rock Canyon itself is so cool - you can spend hours in that place. My advice: the first three stops are the most picturesque so spend the majority of your time here!
Use to go there almost every day and have even spent overnights out on the overlook. Saw a bizarre light show out there in the 90s too. Lights as in...weird lights that would multiply into more etc. All in the 90s in my 1st car- a black convertible.
Sounds like an amazing time with great memories! Not sure what to make of the light show ... I have heard about the mysterious unexpected things that happen in the Nevada desert though.
Definitely! I was pleasantly surprised at how vast it was and it wasn't overtly touristy. I spent way too long in the first stop, I had to rush through the rest of them!
There are actual car parks at each stop. You could pull off to the side of the road and stop randomly, but I highly don't recommend it, as the nearest stopping points to the ones of interest are these car parks!
@@UltimateBucketList This has changed completely since 2018. You are only allowed to park in designated parking areas. Any other area off to the side of the road is prohibited. You can't even pause where you are momentarily to take a photo. They take this seriously. They have put large boulders in place to block access to what used to be popular spots to pull over for scenic views along the way.
We walked in because the park was closed (full) to car traffic. Many of us parked on the side of the road and walked in. Disappointed we couldn't do the drive. It was a beautiful spring Sunday early afternoon. Next time have to get there earlier.
Yeah, getting there early is the best way. Its cooler, lighting is best for pics and less crowded. Living just 90 minutes from Yosemite NP, I try to hit the gate by sunrise. By noon, I'm done and see people just getting started. Always buy my America the Beautiful pass, gets me (or party of 4 at walk-ins) into all NPs for a year.
im planing to rent a ferrari convertible next time i come to Vegas woud red rock woud be a great excursion its rent time is limited to 4 hours i plan to stop for a drink or meal and of course a nice photoshoot
Walk from Vegas so you only pay 5 dollars? Challenge accepted! (when my financial circumstances will permit it) Just give me lots of sun block, a hat and a large water bottle and I'd take the 90 minute walk through the desert to get here and another long walk down the one way road and the hikes.
@@UltimateBucketList What do you mean? You pay 5 dollars to enter the park on foot right? I meant walking to the park without a car so you don't have to pay additional for the vehicle. Is there something I'm missing?
@@UltimateBucketList Except of course that the western boundary of the City of Las Vegas is only 4 miles from Red Rock Canyon. Yeah I can imagine it would have been a cool place before it got touristified.
Still pretty cool even with tourists though.

How long does it take to drive the scenic route? Looking to do night photography but I don’t want to get stuck in there for hours

Thanks. It's on my bucket list for about 2 weeks from now. Got permission to fly my drone over most areas, other than 2 designated wildlife areas.

I totally agree ... it's a place you need to come to, to get the full amazing experience.

It used to be inhabited by a gang called the Great Khans but they fled during the second battle of Hoover Dam.

There is a Red Rock Canyon in California as well. It is much smaller than the Nevada one, but it is also very scenic.

Thanks for commenting. Back then I used a Canon M50, but nowadays, my travel camera is a Sony ZV-E10
I was there. Calico Tanks was a great hike.
Yeah, it's a cool place to hike for sure.

How does it work if you live nearby.
I'm thinking of moving to the area.

so the stops on the scenic route, are they obvious stops, like with places to park, or do you just pull over anywhere and park along the road?

Okay, it's like 45 minutes outside - but that's relatively short in the grander scheme of things.
