    You know ana you should try to get yourself a good sized greenhouse. Saves lots of space time and work. It may be hot where you live but the plants wouldn't mind the heat at al if you use a shadecloth. Ive seen many people in California use greenhouses the temps can go as high as 140 and the plants love it! This is because in the desert the ground can get up to 120+ F which most cacti and succulents love. It also gives you a much better controlled environment this is why many large collectors use them. I think one day you'd get a greenhouse as you have thousands of plants. Also helps if you want to grow rare and hard to grow/find species. You can also have a large plant collection!

    FANTASTIC video Ana :-D and your Tephrocacti are BEAUTIFUL, and you were brave to repot these Tephro haha, I really LOVE Tephros and their unique and special shapes, I have a few Tephrocacti desperate to be re potted that I keep putting off repotting as their segments and glochids stick to me just by looking at them lol! and your Astrophytum is a STUNNER too, you have repotted them all so beautifully, and your new pots from 'The Next Gardener' are so gorgeous, thanks so much for sharing the awesome repottings with us, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and CAFFEINE and CACTUS POWER to Las Vegas for a super Sunday ahead XXXX

      Haha. You are so correct in saying that the segments stick and fall just by looking at them! 😄🤣 That is so funny. I guess whichever way we repot these Tephrocactus, it is inevetable that pieces will fall off. I was able to make another pot full of Tephrocactus just from the segments that fell off while repotting. Thank you Lyn! 😊

    Nice video, Ana. As a suggestion, go to Lowe's or ? and get 3 or 4 different diameter wooden dowels about a foot long. You can go through the drain hole in the bottom and carefully push up the root ball. If it is being difficult, use a smaller rod size turned at an angel and work some of the roots loose, then push up with the largest rod size that will fit through the drain hole. Good luck!

    • @CactusCaffeine

    I struggle so hard with growing these tall. My current limit is a tower of 5 segments max, cause then either the wind or my handling, watering or repotting them knocks the top segments off. Still, gorgeous plants and so fun to watch them take shape as they grow!

    I love beautiful planters. My grandmother always had lovely planters for her houseplants. Since I have been growing succulents for quite a while I have missed using those lovely ceramic pots so a few weeks ago as I was transplanting some propagated succulents from small terracotta pots to larger pots I decided to use some ceramic pots. Oh, my! I have had to totally change how I water my succulents!! Those ceramic pots hold moisture soooo much longer! With the terracotta pots I can count on my succulents needing more water at definite intervals (depending upon humidity changes) but with the ceramic pots….oh my! I am still waiting for the soil to dry!! I used soil that drains very well. I added more perlite and pumice and yet those ceramic pots are still holding the moisture!
    I also grow some tropical plants and they love the ceramic pots but they need moist soil. My poor succulents are still sitting in damp soil after ten days! I did not even water them until water came out the bottom! One of the planters is a ceramic “cactus” pot that has a lot of surface area but it is still damp as well.
    I’m sure that our Caffeine lady knows this but to anyone who decides to switch their succulents to ceramic pots….water lightly!

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is so true. One has to be careful using ceramic pots or glazed pots. The soil has to be adjusted to have more grit and maybe skip on the top dressing if necessary. My cacti in glazed or ceramic pots get a different watering schedule than the rest In terracotta pots. Good luck on yours. 👍🏼🙂

    My tip is dry the Tephrocactus out before repotting, I mean let them really shrivel. They hold onto cladodes much better when very dry.

    🤣Had to laugh at this one!!! You look at these too hard and they fall to pieces!!! Just knocked off a piece of my inermis the same size while moving my Euphorbia mammilaris variagata!! Ah yes... the master key!!! Hahaha!! Hey if you have an old bread knife with a rounded tip, you can run it around the inside edge slowly and maybe losen it up from the pot. You still have some very nice plants!!! Love the green pots!!! That's quite an Astrophytum!!! A real beauty!!! Thanks for sharing Ana!!! They all look great in their new pots!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, out to Las Vegas, have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌💖🌵🌷🌳🌻🌴🌺🌿🏵🌲😃👍

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I used the master key 🔑! And you are correct at saying that simply staring at them makes them fall. Lol 😂 Thanks for the tip on the bread knife. I will use that next time. For these Tephrocactus, the segments were on the way so I did not have enough room to wiggle any tools in the pot. I guess, whichever way I do it, losing some pieces is inevitable. 😄 Thanks Clyde!

I started this journey with just succulents but after following your videos on cacti I am becoming more of a cactus fan and since our weather is similar nearly all of your recommendations are applicable.
