- There have been chaotic scenes in Brussels where the local mayor and the police tried to shut down a right-wing conference where Nigel Farage and Suella Braverman were giving speeches.

Mr Farage made the most of the glare of publicity suddenly shining on proceedings and said the attempt to cancel the 'National Conservatism' event was "monstrous".

These local ‘authorities’ in Brussels need to do 2 things: 1. Not take their ‘authority’ as a synonym for ‘authoritarianism’. 2. Read and absorb the following from George Orwell: “If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”

It's concerning when police enforce unconstitutional demands from a mayor. Conservatives, like all citizens, have the right to gather in venues and express their political views. It's important to stop treating law-abiding people as dangerous criminals. Such actions are unacceptable.

As detestable as a lot of these speakers are, freedom of speech is allowing them to speak their minds and then to counter them with a stronger argument, not shutting down the platform and suppressing their expressions. It sets a precedent for police to shut down any future public speech in the name of "the greater good"..
