What a great review of a game that I really enjoy. Thank you so much for not banging on about the lack of multiplayer, the challenge of single player makes the entry fee more than worth while. That challenge hooked me from the start and getting the gold trophy for beating all 16 opponents is probably the most satisfying trophy I've ever received. I think multiplayer is less important than people seem to think. As a simulated real world sport, the range of abilities within the participants will be wide, and consequently, the probability of a competitive match is very low. Be prepared for a lot of rage quitting. I too would have liked more options, perhaps a knockout tournament structure and the choice of longer format matches, 5 or 7 sets.

Def buying this! I already own it on the Oculus Go, but it looks way better on the PSVR
spot on. Good review. as a swede grown up in the 80-90th there we literally played table tennis 24/7 i feel the game is very realistic. At the moment i give it 4. multiplayer equals 5.

Great review Dez! I was a big fan of this too, sure it doesn’t have some of the big features that the PC version has. But what’s there is good and the physics are spot on!

Awesome review Dez. And in case anyone is curious about that other ping pong game, don't bother. It's THAT awful. A simple backhand could send the ball into orbit, and the CPU cheats like crazy. The only thing it has over this game are the additional modes, but when the physics are completely busted, even they can't save it.
Totally agree! It's amazing how many people defend the physics of VR Ping Pong. I played a lot of table tennis growing up and I know how the ball should react. And Racket Fury just feels right. :D

Hi Dez, does this game simulate ball spin? We have a TT table at work and I've noticed some guys in my office are able to spin the ball. I'm still trying to learn that so practising it in VR would be great.

Yes, the spin mechanic is really good in general, but keep in mind, in the real world the material that the paddle is made of makes a big difference.
I didn't enjoy it on the Oculus Go, but with 6DOF and MP on the way I think I'll pick it up for PSVR.
I have it for the go and I think it's amazing. There was a huge update for it today that added new arenas and multiplayer.
Can you use the racket like in real life I mean the spin and by the serve are physically also so dynamic?
There's a realistic /simulation physics option thats spot on to real life. All the shots I suck at or nail in real life is replicated here.
Out of all the amazing games I've played for PSVR, this humble game is the one that most accurately simulates 1 to 1 what it was taking inspiration from.
What really stands out to me is that there are no "controls" in the conventional sense. No button presses, thumbstick movements etc. to simulate a different action in the game world. You just do almost the exact actions you would do irl to play. You could have never played a video game in your life and instantly be able to play this game if you've played table tennis before. It's an amazing feeling and the game is worth picking up just to experience that imo. And when multiplayer finally gets here it will be even better!

I have a 3 hour Heavy Fire video up on the channel. It's $30 but feels like a $5.99 game at best.
Drone Striker is much, much better but only about 45 minutes long. Review incoming.

@@WithoutParole Yea, I'm still loving the game though. I'm stuck on the second level in Championship. Wish they would release new maps as well, playing on the same map is getting tedious.

If you don't count games like Rec Room, there are just two dedicated ping pong games on PSVR - Racket Fury and Ping Pong VR.
I want to play multiplayer but nobody is there I guess, i can't find any match. Someone wants to play from EU? 😅

Hopefully soon. A lot of developers underestimate the amount of time it takes to get things done on PlayStation, usually because Sony's strict certification process holds things up for weeks, sometimes months.

Racket Fury got an update this past August with online multiplayer and realistic environments too, so this review is extremely out of date.

Ah, the real shame was that it took a full year to even get a multiplayer patch for Racket Fury. Luckily games like this and Sparc on require one other person for multiplayer, which doesn't require much effort (our Discord or other PSVR groups are a great place to find games.) It's a much bigger issue for Honor and Duty and games that require bigger teams of people to coordinate.
Why the need for the robots in space tho...

There is multiplayer. This review is from 5 years ago and they added a TON after launch (all of which is included in the recent PSVR2 release as well!) :D

I have to agree with you. Dez didn't really mention it but I'd say $20 is way too much until they patch in multiplayer and new backgrounds. The overall presentation felt a little lackluster as well.
I don't know about "ridiculous". I feel I've easily gotten $20 of value out of it. I love table tennis, but I never get to play. I have no room for a real table, and even if I did, finding a decent opponent is really hard. For only $20, I get to play against really challenging opponents in my own living room. Seems like a deal to me.
@@DezrahBlinn Dezrah Blinn It's 24 euro here. For context, Astrobot was 40 euro and Creed at 20. Maybe when the MP hits a drop to a clean 20 euro would be a reasonable asking rice but a 16 match campain and a practice mode. No matter how the difficulty scales or the frills added, that's just not value.
