Intuitive Collage with Rainbow Colors

- In this video I demonstrate a simple, fun way to let go and loosen up your art using collage scraps (+ black and white). I chose rainbow colors, but you can use any colors you choose - the important part is to experiment with putting different patterns, colors, and textures together. This creative practice will help you get out of your head so you can simply play.
The results are unexpected and it's FUN! This exercise can be used on its own as a collage warm up, a way to try out new combinations of colors/patterns, as an art journal page, and/or as a mixed media painting starter.
Materials used:
Sketchbook (amzn.to/3rUh9SA),
Collage paper
Gloss medium - (NovaColorPaints.com)
Neocolor Crayons - amzn.to/3QjCiPV

It’s tender as a parent to know that other folks struggle with the frustration of giving consequences to their kids, too. I beat myself up over the things we did with our kids and they are adults now. Be kind to yourself- children can be tough to figure out. ❤
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love the way you connect lines & marks up, like the white cross on the orange scrap to the half circle on the black tissue.
Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
Jackie, love your organizing papers into categories warm cool etc. Thanks! I got loads of stuff and now know where to start. Love all your artistic approaches ❤
I’m so glad to hear you found this helpful - Let me know how it goes! ❤️❤️❤️
177 like very nice video 💯☕💯🙋🏻♀️👍
Thank you! ❤️
Love this beautiful buffet of colors and textures!! And what a great idea to separate the collage scraps by size...the smaller scrap container is genius! Thanks for another great video, Jackie!!😃
❤️❤️❤️
In addition...I appreciate the reminder of limiting your choices! I SOOOO need like a course on this or some intervention. When I started playing with are I have nothing, and thought if I only had the things I could make some many things, I had a million ideas! Fast forward...I have become not only slightly obsessed with art activities..,.it;s my therapy...,but now I have SO MUCH STUFF, that I also don't know what to make or do, there are almost too many options! I need to figure a way to like divide, hide etc some things for next month etc and only have access to a limited supply. Kind of like the idea of rotating kids toys. I just have not figured this out yet! Ugh! Glad it is not just me. Love your work..as always!!
I empathize - it’s hard to get rid of art supplies, but sometimes they start to feel HEAVY - especially when there are too many choices. I’m a pack rat when it comes to my art tools, but I’d love to be more of an art supply minimalist (or at least a medium-ist 🤣). Self-imposed limits help me a TON. Experiment with *only* using one color of all of your supplies or one kind of supply (only colored pencils or paints or collage), etc. see what feels good. ❤️❤️❤️
Great ideas, thank you! Crazy how too many choices make it harder to choose! I love the idea of being a medium-ist...it DOES all start to feel heavy!
How funny that you brought out that piece of cellophane!!! I was going through a box of art supplies that had been in storage just yesterday and I found a piece of cellophane similar to yours. I’m looking forward to using it in a future collage! Thank you for sharing 😊
Ha! I’d love to see how you end up using your cellophane! ❤️
@@jackieschomburgart I’m thinking 🤔 fish collage, that is what I’ll use it for
🤗
First off.....LOL!! I remember you telling the story of the kiddo throwing things onto the roof! Okay it's not funny...but it kind of is, only in the way that is makes some of us feel not SO alone! I have had my fair share of antics from smaller ppl over the years. I have used the writing punishment, standing facing the wall, miss out of something fun. (Now I see I sound like a monster!) But when you are in the thick of it, you will try out just about anything esp since they all respond to different consequences! That was a touch lesson for me,,,,having to figure out what worked best for each "terrorist" in my home!
It was really funny about a couple days later (after another few gray hairs grew out of my head 🤣🤣🤣). If my kids aren’t scientists/creatives I’ll be SHOCKED - SO. MANY. EXPERIMENTS. 😆😆😆 You’re so right that it’s all about figuring out what each kid needs (riiiiiight before their needs change 🤣). ❤️
I'm so sorry...,one more thing popped into my head. Just the weekend I saw a woman doing some art. Commenting on the cost of supplies etc. So she uses catalogs, magazines, etc and when not using them for collage, she gesso's the pages and uses them as like cheap journals to practice or just play in! Instead of just throwing them in the recycle or dump! I thought you might enjoy that idea too! I wish I had genius ideas!! :)
Using the magazines/catalogs THEMSELVES as a sketchbook is GENIUS! Thank you for sharing this! Super budget-friendly and resourceful! ❤️❤️❤️
Jackie what China Markers do you buy?
