Such a good message. I finally sat down for an hour this morning and an hour yesterday playing with the gelli plate. I realized that I've been buying tons of different types of paper but I need to use it. I just found a stencil making tool that I bought a year ago and have never used it. Its one of those that melts the plastic. Definitely happening this week! I'm going to do some simple mark making this week and start on a collage. I do surreal collage already but I want to make more than that.
Jackie, I love your videos! I am a professional artist of many decades and youhave been so influential in helping me face "resistance". Thank you so much. Keep it up.
Would you mind if I used your comment on my website/marketing? And if so, could you please let me know your first name and the first initial of your last name so I can give you credit? ❤️❤️❤️
You are so inspiring and so right. I get overwhelmed with all the beautiful papers I've made. I get a bunch out and sometimes I have success and sometimes I don't. It's always fun though. Thanks so much for everything you do!
thank you. i'm late to this but you're so right. i haven't been able to make it down to the studio for a month! i got down here a couple of days ago and you're right - once you get started it's just better. I'm right here next to my laptop trying to do the thing.
OMG….I love the brown paper with the white dots! It looks like it has been printed with a pearl / beaded necklace or something. I would hord that for years as well i think😊 🍀💖
I thought I was the only one who discovered the inside of the 2 layer brown paper recyclable packages! Certainly, no one in my immediate vicinity even thinks to glance at the ripped package material! Big bonus, the cardboard boxes art supplies are shipped in are often stuffed with the most delightfully wrinkled, thin brown paper. It's like a gift with purchase!
My problem isn’t other opinions, it’s mine. I junk almost everything I do. Whilst all around me say they love each piece, I just think they’re being kind because they love me. ☺️
I agree with @mousepudding - don’t junk your art! If you’re looking to grow as an artist, I’d encourage you to start a sketchbook to create in. Move paint/crayons/paper around (whatever media you like to use) and just play. Here’s the key - Don’t tear any pages out. You don’t have to look at your previous work if you are unhappy with it (you don’t have to show it to anyone else either!), but keep it all. When that sketchbook is full, get another one and do the same thing. Your work will evolve as you keep showing up. It’s much easier to see the evolution and start to see when certain shapes/color palettes/other preferences began if you keep the old work so you can look back. This is why I believe all of the things we make have value - even if we wouldn’t want to have it all hanging on our living room walls. Just an idea - I think it might get you where you want to be faster than erasing all the things you’re not happy with. ❤️❤️❤️
I'm still getting over covid and the chest infection that tagged along after. Been a tough month. But I have used some of the time in bed over the past couple of days going through a pile of National Geographic magazines I picked up cheap a few years ago on ebay. I've found that if there are too many steps before actually doing the art I'm less likely to. So I've been cutting out pages or bits with cool patterns that I can use to collage. It'll be a lot easier to just start using them now. 😁 I did think of you a number of times when I saw black and white stripes for example. And how you have helped me to look at pages in different ways. And I just signed up for the collage class. I saw your brave class on the 5th but it's 7pm which would be 3am here so i can't do that one sadly. 😕
Ugh, I’m sorry you’re still coming back from covid 👎 I love that you’ve been compiling a collage bank full of ideas while you’re recovering though! And hooray for joining the collage paper 101 workshop - it should be a lot of fun! ❤️❤️❤️
Loved the vibe in this video, Jackie! And how great is it that you're hosting a collage paper workshop! Not sure I can fit it into my budget to join, but it sounds wonderful. 😊 Best wishes - och glada hälsningar - from one of your Swedes! 😀
I made this a while ago - can you please provide me with a time stamp of when you saw the bags in the video? Then I'll be happy to tell you what I know about them :)
@@carynpercell8979 lol Let me rephrase, I need to know at what point in the video that you saw the bags - was it 3 minutes in? 7 minutes 45 seconds into the video, etc? ☺️
I love this Jackie. I have a hard time to accept that certain days, my creative time is not as long as I want it to be. And yet, sometimes I’m stuck in procrastin-organizing mode 😂 I’m curious, do you have some videos on how you make your handmade papers? I would love to see your process! Do you use a Gelli plate?
Oh to be able to go back and fore to your art and do a bit at a time. Living with cats this is virtually impossible. If any art is left a cat will scratch at it or urinate on it.... soooo frustrating! If I set it up in a seperate room the cats will just scratch at the door constantly to be let in... 😢
Yikes! I don’t blame you for not wanting your art to be scratched/peed on! 😱😆 Is that how/why people keep their homes so tidy? Are they just protecting their things from cat-vandalism? 😂 I’m allergic to cats, so my tidiness is not a necessity 😆😆😆
Hi Jackie! Thanks for the video. I enjoy watching them. I should spend more time creating and less watching 😂. How do you store your collage papers? I’m struggling with this.
I store my larger papers in an ikea wardrobe with MANY thin shelves and drawers. My smaller scraps are intended to be in one of a few plastic bins, but also tend to just live in a wild pile on my desk 😂

This was so inspiring! Thanks so much.

Yes, I should. Thanks Jackie 👍

Just do the thing! I love it. Just start and it will magically come.
Yep! And even if the magic doesn’t come on a given day, you still get full credit for doing the thing! 🤗🏆🥳❤️

@wendywendy3718 🤗🤗🤗 I’m right by there with you.
I’m loving the colours!!!! Wonder what you would change to this.
Thanks! I don’t have any specific plans to change it, but I might decide to quiet some areas down so it’s less “busy” ❤️
Timely and well done my friend! Loved it as usual. ❤❤❤

My problem isn’t other opinions, it’s mine. I junk almost everything I do. Whilst all around me say they love each piece, I just think they’re being kind because they love me. ☺️
A humble suggestion: instead of junking your work, give it to people who will treasure it. Mail art is a great way to do this.

🤣🤣🤣 YES, as a matter of fact I do! Come join us in the workshop on 4/12! I also do have a couple videos that address collage paper as well ❤️
