    In south korea, reeves turtles are called ' nam-seng-i.

    A lot of Japanese think they are native to Japan, which is not true.
    They are called Kusagame here in Japan meaning smelly turtle cuz it produces a little smell from their legs.

      TerrorMau5 I would doubt it that stuff is very expensive and you would need to go to a hospital to get it. Also turtles aren’t venomous so like yea that’s kinda a stupid thought

      Hi Helen - I've been taking care of Ollie Burger, my Reeves Turtle, full time for +7 years and the few times he's nipped at me, he never broke the skin. I was more startled by the pinch than hurt, so don't be afraid, Helen!

    • @heleninglis9961
      @heleninglis9961 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pthelo i think it's more the fear of the unknown than the pain that im afraid of lol 🤣 IDK maybe im just weird 🤷‍♀️ i hate paddling ankle deep in the sea if there's too much seaweed & i can't see the bottom! Obv there's not gonna be anything dangerous in such shallow water but i just start thinking... what if... then i freak myself out 🤣🤣🤣

    • @pthelo
      @pthelo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@heleninglis9961 It definitely sounds more like fear of the unknown than fear of getting nipped! I applaud you for your self-awareness of the situation. :)

    I've got a Red-Eared Slider named Wonton. We're her 3 owner. She is has been able to outsmart us in funny ways. We originally had her in an enclosure with a 125 gallon pool and would occasionally let her roam around an area surrounded by a white slatted fence. She was able to get out by rotating herself so she was orientated sideways and got herself in between the fence! Another time, she also hid herself underneath an empty kiddie pool. She also escaped out of her black pool by unknown means(probably by using the rocks) and escaped for an entire day. She returned the day after, but we STILL have no idea where she went!

    I have a 660 gallon, three foot deep, outdoor pond that I’m considering adding a Reeves turtle to.
    The pond is currently home to one Diamondback Terrapin and one Yellow Belly Slider.
    I’ve read they are not the best swimmers and am wondering if three feet is too deep for them.
    Can you share your thoughts? Thanks so much!
    P.s. your habitat is incredible. 👍

    Hey Kenan ! Need your help and advice!! I bought a baby redfoot tortoise from you about 4 years ago. It's been cool to have him.
    So about a couple of weeks ago he PROBABLY swallowed a tiny screw (from a loft with a ramp I built for him that broke eventually) ... Now he hasn't pooped in like almost 2 weeks!! BUT he's STILL eating all the veggies and fruit I feed him.
    Also I've been soaking him in water a lot more lately... Still no turds from him. What should I do now??

    Thank you so much for answering my questions, Kenan. I've come to the conclusion that we preobably have two males. You are what inspired us to get into turtles in the first place and now that we have given these two a forever home I'm sure the interest in these animals will just grow huge! Next up is a bigger enclosure for them as the one they stay in right now is a bit too small for my liking. Cheers again from Stockholm!Felix
