    Oh man that is a great idea ❤ you sold me !!! Poop is always a pain in the butt. Also what I did was go on to Amazon and bought a bag of chicken toys for my ladies, they love them.. thank you so much and have a beautiful day 🌞 🐔🐔🐔

    Love the idea. I’ve been using trays on shelves under roosting bar. But your way gives me the idea to creating “ hammocks” under each bar, same width as trays. 12” strips will be easer to remove and clean rather than the entire sheet. Handling it full of poop seem like an awkward mess. You definitely showed me how to improve my coop.

    The best part of all this, if the chickens learn to do it, they can use it as a slide for indoor fun! 😂 Smart not to had cut that tarp, the fraying ends if not sealed right will start to get loose and chickens may start pecking and eating it. You can make a non-metal light weight poop scrapper from cutting up a discarded laundry soap bottle and the like, then screw it onto a stick. I use mine for that and dog poop.

      I love the plastic bottle scrapper idea, I knew I was hoarding empty bottles for something!! ...and yes, a very poopy slide lol!

    Just found you! First video was the chunnel. Deep litee method is great! I am a beginner and am learning from all of you who share your knowledge! Thank you. I love my girls!

    Why not the deep litter method? I do that for my coop and clean it twice a year. And just throw it all in the chicken run and clean that once a year into my garden

      I have considered that so much. I don’t know why it is so intimidating! Does it smell with your coop? I’ve heard it helps with heat in the winter too. Maybe I’ll switch over at some point this summer and compare how I it… if it’s less work and less smelly, I can’t see why I wouldn’t like it more! Thank you for the encouragement!

      Its great. I have straw and pine flakes from coop. I also throw corn under the roosting bar so they scratch it and mix ot together. If it starts to smell ill throw more straw on top but the chickens will mix it up. Ill clean it mid summer throw that into the run. Beginning of spring ill clean out the run into the garden and the coop into the run.

      Give it a try, when i first tried it my wife was saying its going to smell and its a horrible idea. Lol 3 years of doing it she doesn't complain about smell or anything.

      I love that rotation method. I started throwing pine shavings in the hammock and couldn't believe how it completely got rid of the smell. So I'm being pulled toward switching to the deep litter method soon.

      I use shredded cardboard in my deep litter, just keep adding it, have not cleaned the coop in over 3 years

    Thanks! I had the same idea and was wondering how far out I needed to put the tarp so not to hinder them from jumping or flying up to the roost… Just what I needed to know…
    Thanks again, you were reading my mind… 😊

      Even the rock and tarp around it to tie is so smart! I would’ve felt like I had no choice and ruined my tarp by cutting it😆 I’ve never seen that and it’s genius!

      @@soilandsazon thank you!! I was pretty happy when I thought of that. I just couldn’t get over how wrong it felt to put a hole in a tarp on purpose 😂

    Do you have information on your compost? I have been wanting to one for my garden and didn’t even think of using my chickens poop !

    • @HeyJordanRae
      @HeyJordanRae  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am wanting to make a video in the next couple of month showing how I make my compost. But it's not complicated at all. I pile up all plant clippings, leaves, and food scraps the chickens don't eat along with what I clean out of the chicken coop and turn it occasionally. (you don't want super fresh chicken poop in your garden, the nitrogen needs a couple months to break down)

    I would just take the tarp down and outside to hose it off..moisture in coop bad..🖖

      Just found your video. I too have the same dilemma with my indoor coop. One suggestion, use a 2x4 split to make it a 1 x2 and wrap the tarp and duct tape it. Now you have a rigid end that is easier to support than tieing it.

    • @OfficiallyFran
      @OfficiallyFran ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidhackney2073 In the end, I liked Uncle Jo's Farm idea, but I took it to the next level and built my coop (roosting area) off the ground, it made it through the winter and the deep liter method is the best-no smell and it hasn't been cleaned yet.

    um that's not a chicken coop. that's a chicken mansion.
    there's enough space and square footage there that people could live there except for the part about chicken poop everywhere.

    • @HeyJordanRae
      @HeyJordanRae  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd bet money that the square footage is at least as big as our bedroom... I don't know how many chickens the previous owner had, but she spared no expense on those girls!
