Also, I am a disabled veteran. I have been able to utilize my medically retired time (which would have been a very boring life) by becoming a Gravely enthusiast and making a hobby of it. I am a auto mechanic by trade, and I was a tank mechanic in the military, but because of my disabilities, I had to downgrade my hobby to something smaller in order to continue maintaining an interest in meachanics. If you haven't already, I'd like to invite you to join GTCOA. You would be of great assistance to the group, just as it has been to you. Welcome to the world of Gravely. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.

I lucked out this week. Found a 8163 with very low hours. 367. I paid 3000 for it. Owner had from new. Never been in rain. Origonal paint. I get it this week. I cant wait for it to arrive. I tried other brands but i grew up on 2 gravelys. A 432 and 816s. Both were very reliable tractors. But its not easy finding a good one. People hold on to them. Looking forward to new content
oh my goodness, i was so worried that you wouldn´t make another video. Thankfully you did. Very entertaining AND informative to see something that rare to get some new life put in it :D very nice :D pls dont stay away that long before next video :)
I'm still here lol, I just got super busy at work at the same time as several project piling up. The next Bolens video is all filmed, and two Volvo videos are about half done.
Nice work, both on the Gravely and on an entertaining video. You have good subject matter, good hosting/humor capabilities, and a good grasp of how to get good/interesting/clear shots...sound's even good. Seems like these should have more views, but what do I know. Oh, and also, upload in more than 720p if you can!
Thanks for the support! Didn't even realize I was only uploading in 720, I'll see about making that at least 1080 in the future. And yes, good audio is a must. The wireless lapel mic is a godsend.
I'm looking to get one of these mowers and wanted some info on them. After seeing your video I now am confident, while I look at it to see if every thing is there and working well. Great video very informative.
Hell yeah! And yes it is. It used to be my grandfather's, I believe his dad lifted it from the steel mill sometime in the 1930s. It will change hands over my cold, dead body. Good thing it will outlast me lol.
@bakedbeansgarage116 Thanks for the laughs, too! Your channel seems to be highly underrated, especially humor wise and your choice of excellent music, too.

if you want to mount a snow blower you will need the pto shaft and bearings that mount in the hole of the front axle, and two mount plates that bolt on to the sides at the front of the "frame". Very nice rehab, looks worlds better!
You silly man! Beautiful work and lovely commentary! The hand gesturing is a nice touch- reminds me of the old Soupy Sales show. You drain that tranny by removing the lowest bolt behind the right wheel. I have the same tractor, but a year or two older, the first year Gravely put the Kohler twin on it instead of the single cylinder Briggs 16. Your power drop off may just be a governor adjustment. Thanks for a great video!
@@bakedbeansgarage116We got two of em and I found joy in you restoring this fine machine but did you use paint plus primer and he's right but the drain plugs on mine are regular half inch square ones and thanks for the pointer. One of mine has no covers on and I was wondering how it was hearing up so fast
It appeared that you engaged the PTO lever quickly. If you did, you shouldn’t. This action can cause damage to the PTO clutch inside the tranny case. You DO NOT want to take that apart. Well taking it apart is easy, reassembly is more challenging. Engage the PTO clutch lever slowly. Another suggestion: when starting to move forward drop the RPM’s on the motor to almost an idle and then engage the pedal for forward movement. High speed take off can cause undo on the clutch used for forward direction. Adjusting the clutch is moderately easy, but annoying. VOE Oh, very surprised that there is no oil filter on the Kohler. I have a slightly older 16, and the Kohler has a spin on oil filter. I’ve had similar issues with my 50” deck. I’ve replaced most nuts with lock washers and/or lock nuts. They still manage to come loose. I notice when the deck isn’t mowing correctly: uneven mow pattern and/or odd noises coming from the deck, that the deck hardware needs attention. Good job on the restore.
Thank you for the information! I have since been more gentle on the PTO. Trying to avoid that rebuild. I love the bulletproof nature of the all-gear drive, but taking it apart is intimidating. Nylock nuts are a must!
I have a 1997 vintage 16g which I dare say looks almost new. 16Gs came without an oil filter, but there was a kit to add one. the oil filter was reserved for the 18 and 20G tractors. In later years the 16 and 18g had the same M18 Kohler engines, and the oil filter was one of the differentiating features
Beautiful workmanship. I know this video is a year or so old. That being said, I hope you see my comment because I have a need to know. On your fast time segments, I noticed while you were cleaning and painting the various parts and wheels that you were doing something with the torch. Would you please explain what you were doing with the torch? Also, what was the purpose of "burning" the underside of the deck, and what flammable liquid did you use?
Thanks, man! I heat the parts with the torch to sweat out any moisture and open up the pores, it just gives better adhesion. I was cleaning the deck with brakekleen and figured I'd just light it to get some heat into the metal before I painted it.
Nice Job. I have a 16G, that won't start, and I need to push it out of the way, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it to move. I've seen lots of videos for many other makes which have a transaxle bypass lever, but I can't find a similar thing on the Gravely. What am I missing? The brake is not on, it's in neutral, but I can't move the thing. Any idea what the secret to pushing a Gravely G16 is?
Hmmm, they should free wheel just fine in neutral, although with some resistance. If the brake and pto are off and it's still stuck you might have another problem. There is no free-wheel lever since it's all gear drive.
What a great job. The Bolens looks great as well. I have a 1969 Gravely Commercial 430 which I have restored similar to your project. I restored a 1983 Gravely 8163-B and the red paint I used was Rustoleum Sunrise red. 27 rattle cans. What color did you use?
Hello While watching your quite informative and humorous restoration of your G16 you showed a packaged new fan. I need a fan like that for my G12. Can you tell me where to order/find one?
Wow 25 years huh so I don't mean to bother much but can you still get new parts for my 16-g from you guys or is it only Richards tractor you can get them from because I just redid the deck assembly and was wondering if you guys sell the original headlights and ignition stuff for these mowers

Also you can mount a mulcher up front
good morning i bought a an old gravely tractor all steel hood has to be unbolted to get off would you be interested in it
wow the previous owner really did some hack repairs.
How’d you go about sealing the underside of deck? Looks like it’ll hold up for decades.
I used Rust-Oleum protective enamel with catalyst. It goes on super thick and has held up very well so far.
Can you tell me where I can find tires and rims front tires for my G12
I did find Robin Snyder because of your help
I honestly don't know where wheels can be had, but I got the tires on eBay. I have a spare set of front wheels I could ship though.
MR BEANS GOOD DAY SIR
i'm a novice but what does using the torch on parts before spraying them do?
It flashes the moisture out and opens the pores in the metal for better adhesion.
@@bakedbeansgarage116 I didn't know that I'll keep that in mind for when I get around to repainting my gravely 817
I noticed you using a propane torch while painting, curious to know hows and whys
It warms up the metal to open the pores and burns off anything that still might be on there. It makes for better adhesion.
Sounds like vice grip garage
