That is cool that they incorporated 99 Luftballons into the anniversary celebration. Such an iconic song about the wall and the meaning behind it would be the perfect song for that.

Honestly, I don't agree that _Argo_ was "missing important context" by casting Ben Affleck in the role where the real life man was Latino, because it's not important context. If it were a story about Latino experience or culture, that's one thing, but that's not what this story is about. Would anything have turned out differently if the man had been white instead? No, so it doesn't really matter.
What _does_ bug me about Argo was the gratuitous slander of Shah Reza. Whatever his personal flaws may have been, he was an amazing ruler who was doing great things for his country. In the intro it says that he made enemies for trying to "westernize" Iran. What this actually means was he was trying to civilize the country, _and he was succeeding!_ As a child, my mother lived there for a while under his reign, and it was a place that Christian foreigners, including women, could live without fear, where little girls could get a good education. The fact that he was doing this, and that it offended the revolutionaries, tells you everything you need to know about who the good guys and bad guys are in the story, and it was a little bit sickening to see the film drag his name through the mud at every opportunity and act as if the barbarians who burned down everything he was doing and plunged their nation into a new dark age had even the slightest shred of legitimacy.

Haunted by a corpse has been done. In the 1981 Italian comedy Spaghetti a Mezzanotte the protagonist has to hide a dead body in a modern mansion during a large party, but it just keeps popping up in unexpected places. Not for supernatural reasons, but due to the complicated automation of the house, and for other wacky reasons. It's a bit like Weekend at Bernie's, but they are trying to hide the body, instead of pretending it's still alive. It's a super fun movie, I highly recommend it. I couldn't find an English version unfortunately, but a subtitle may exist. Or can be generated by AI at this point.

In the early 90s at college we had two computer labs in the dorm, one had PCs and was pretty much useless except for running some Physics software, Deathrace2000, and Civilization. The mac lab had decent printers, and software for EE layout diagrams, and much better games, including one that was either called "Attitude Problem Tetris" or possibly "Wesleyan Tetris", which was basically Tetris, except it started by mocking you ("That's the best move I've EVER seen" "I hope your friends are watching") and worked up to actively trying to sabotage your game.
The sounds of that game are forever seared into my brain.

What bugs me even more than lionizing the hero in historical dramas is demonizing the villain to make them worse than they were in real life. Cinderella Man is a big example. I don't remember all the details but i know the "villain" character's real life son had to speak up in defense of his dad.

I find it so odd that what I thought Brandon valued in storytelling seems to be at odds with what he likes sometimes. No shame or anything, it's just strange with how genuinely *awful* I thought this movie was and everyone else seems to think it's at least okay.

I protest! Someone who plays games on their phone or tablet now and then isn't a Gamer. They're merely someone who enjoys video games, among other things. A "Gamer" is someone who is technologically savvy enough to understand the hardware they're using, and spends a significant percentage of their free time gaming. My mom has a few games on her tablet, but on any given day I'd expect her to be reading, or watching TV/movies, or putzing around on her computer (not gaming). She may go entire days without opening a single game! She isn't "A Gamer." I spend more than half my free time gaming, 2-4 hours per night, with 8-10+ hour days on the weekend common. I'm not Gatekeeping! I'm just saying the term loses all meaning if you apply it to literally everyone who plays video games, ever. A Gamer is someone who does that as their *primary* pass-time. In my case, City of Heroes, Homecoming most of the time. :D
