Matt what is the Tower of Midnight foreshadowing scene that was out of place for you? Does it relate to Perrin, compulsion and Lanfear bombshell?? I am trying to understand!!! Just finished Memory of Light and trying to piece it all together! 😅
4:12 "You will have to get an answer from Robert Jordan, himself." That'll be difficult, as he's hiding in Tel'aran'rhiod...at least until someone blows the horn.
“You didn't listen to me," Lan whispered. One last lesson. The hardest. Demandred struck, and Lan saw his opening. Lan lunged forward placing Demandred's sword point against his own side and ramming himself forward onto it. "I did not come here to win," Lan whispered, smiling. "I came here to kill you. Death is lighter than a feather." Demandred's eyes opened wide, and he tried to pull back. Too late. Lan's sword took him straight though the throat.” Greatest single passage in any fantasy book of all time, in my opinion. "Death is lighter than a feather".
“Lan told me once that Malkier lives so long as one man wears the hadori in pledge that he will fight the Shadow, so long as one woman wears the ki’sain in pledge that she will send her sons to fight the Shadow. I wear the ki’sain, Master Aldragoran. My husband wears the hadori. So do you. Will Lan Mandragoran ride to the Last Battle alone?” He was laughing, shaking with it. And yet, he could feel tears rolling down his cheeks. It was madness! Complete madness! But he could not help himself. “He will not, my Lady. I cannot stand surety for anyone else, but I swear to you under the Light and by my hope of rebirth and salvation, he will not ride alone.” That's my favorite
I always assumed Egwene’s death was planned because I thought it was foreshadowed by a story told early on in, maybe in book 5, about Eldrene ay Ellas ay Carlan. She was an incredibly powerful Aes Sedai who married King Aemon of Manetheren. When Aemon died in a last battle, Eldrene draw on too much power to destroy the enemy at the cost of her own life. The power she unleashed created earthquakes which created the aquifer called the Winespring and Egwene is from the Winespring Inn. I saw this all as compelling evidence that Egwene was a reincarnation of Eldrene.
I do like this parallel, I agree that the story elements fit and apply to Egwene and Gawyn. It also always felt to me as a nice turn on the constant dreaming/foretelling that she had about her dual paths with Gawyn. It was always stated that on one path he becomes her warder, the other he does not. And on one path she dies, and the other she does not. In typical heroic journey reader fashion,. we all assumed gawyn being her warder put her on the path to live, but in fact the path where he became her warder is the path where she dies. But on the other path, the Last battle is lost. As Brandon talked about here, without her sacrifice countering the effects of balefire, the pattern would possibly have unraveled.
@@hopelessnecromantic2794 I’m an adherent of the theory that Egwene was *also* Latra Posae Decume, (The head of the female Aes Sedai/The Fateful Concord, which refused to go along with Lews Therin Telamon’s plan for the Sealing of the Bore) If you read *The Strike at Shayol Gul* , the scene in Tel’aran’rhiod after “Integrated Rand” comes to tell Egwene he intends to break the Seals, where Egwene tells this to Elayne & Nyneave, *and* the AMOL scene where Egwene & Rand are arguing about the Seals, just before Moiraine comes in, you’ll find exact, and I mean near word-for-word parallels in all three places.
@@shawnpanzegraf5642 yeah I always read her as more Latra Posae Decume. But this time (unlike in the 2nd age) despite all their disagreements I think because of Egwene and Rand's childhood friendship they still had some level of respect and love for each other which is why he turned over 3 seals to her (though he didn't know they were fake at the time).
@@davidryan8547 Agreed, but I think there being someone they both had a deep and abiding respect for the judgment of really helped the most. When you look at how Egwene dismissed Nyneave disagreeing with her on the basis of a very logically sound rationale, as nothing but evidence that Nyneave was being influenced by Rand’s “te’veren-ness”.. despite only moments earlier thinking to herself how level-headed about important things Nyneave generally is, then at how she assumed Elayne was disagreeing with her because she loved Rand, it shows a tendency toward a myopic sort of “I know best” thinking on Egwene’s part. It couldn’t be that some of the smartest, most capable women Egwene knows could *simply be right, and her possibly be wrong* , oh no, there must be external factors essentially *forcing* Nyneave & Elayne to disagree with her. For three thousand years, the women have been cursing Lews Theron’s “rash act” , but the Strike at Shayol Gul reveals there was every reason to believe that if the spies *had* been able to retrieve the Access-Key ter’angreal for the Choden Kal, and the women had been able to implement there “Contain the Bore in a super-ward made of oceans-worth of saidin & saidar, the result would have been the Dark One not just Tainting *both* Saidin & Saidar, they would have been Tainted to such an extent that *every* channeler, man and woman alike, *all* would have gone instantly insane, like Lews Therin & The Hundred Companions did. The Dark One was able to touch Saidin for a single instant as the last Seal was placed. Once he escaped the Bore, and could touch the surface of the Fateful Concord’s “Super Ward” as long as It/He liked? And Lews Therin took the rap, heh.
I assumed she would end up dying after a dream she had in crown of swords. (I may be wrong about the book. It was a dream pre-tower split.) I need to re-read soon but something about her trying so hard to save everything and realizing she could lie in a dream pretty early on. The scene fascinated me and stuck with me, I felt like the payoff of her death worked in my mind with that one particular dream.
The Lanfear scene always felt weird to me, it didn't fit but I never imagined she plotted it and actually survived, what a reveal! and what a legend you are Matt for having figured it out on the first read and kept the secret for a full decade!
I remembered debating with a friend and I was arguing that her death made sense because it is the last lesson Perrin learned from his wife. Boy I was wrong.🤔
Perrin getting the upper hand on Lanfear never felt right. Glad to hear this! From a big Perrin fan who never even liked Lanfear much. It was HER domain after all.
I agree it was odd for her to be taken by surprise like that, however I'm pretty disappointed with 'he's not seeing what he thinks' while not having anything to indicate so.
I think it would've worked if Perrin earned it more. I think he demonstrated he certainly had enough "power" in TAR, but bluntness Is part of who he is; he would DEFINITELY be manipulated by someone like Lanfear.
1:14:40 Yea when Demandred first showed up talking “I am Bao the Wyld” and going on and on about the prophecies he fulfilled… I just went “Oh, F**K! We’re screwed.”
Demendred showing up with an enormous army was a surprise but it also made sense. Greandal PoV chapters always showed her frustrated because she didn't know anything about his plans. Also from what Rand has gleaned from Lews Therins memories Demendred almost always had an army backing him within his plots. It's referenced multiple times he operates with armies.
I always assumed he'd show up with them. I don't recall if they were called Sharans from the beginning, or just that there were people who lived beyond the desert or what have you (haven't read the books in a minute), but when we knew he was plotting and no one knew where, I assumed it had to be that city/region/people. Didn't necessarily expect a giant group of channelers though.
Androl and Prevara are two of my favorite characters in the whole series. I'm critical of the endings of the arcs for many of the female characters in the series but these two and their partnership is awesome.
Honestly, when I found out Egwene died, I kind of thought that they’d become the new Amyrlin Seat and M’Hael (or is it now Sealbreaker since that term is kind of corrupted?). At that time Logain was still off the deep end with Androl essentially leading the resistance against Taim and I think the Aes Sedai would value the link Pevara had with the Black Tower. Logain makes sense to lead the Black Tower, but I was totally flabbergasted when they attempted to make Cadsuane the new Amyrlin, she is a beacon for the old ways of the Aes Sedai and basically everything that was wrong with them.
@@evilemuempire9550 that could also redeem the red Ajah a little bit from being downcast after Elaida, and help heal the relationship with the black tower. I would die for more books specifically about the white and black tower following the last battle 😅
I literally just finished reading MOL. And then pressed play on this video. Guys, I am literally mourning Egwain's death. I literally cried while driving today listening to the audio book. Also, I really believe Olver is Gaidal Cain. His little ugly darling self. Sigh. This has been a long day for me. Literally been in the last battle for 2 days. But so happy to watch this video now.
I had that thought too, but Brigetta told Elaine that she was about to be born again and only 2 years after Gaidal when she said goodbye after the blowing of the horn.
Way back when The Dragon Reborn, came out, I was Robert Jordan's liaison for part of his Waldenbooks tour. This was the first time we met- I saw him at conventions a few times after and he always remembered me. Anyhow. While we were on a lunch break during the signing at the Oaks Mall, he told me that the series was "supposed" to be a trilogy, but nobody was where they needed to be...yet. He said, "You see, I dreamed the end first." I always remembered that. He was grinning like a little kid. And every time after that, I would say "really???" and he would say "not yet..." He and Harriet were a favorite on tours. Piers Anthony was my next favorite tour author... I miss him...
I've heard the story about how he started with the ending, and I've always thought that he wanted it to be a single book first, but wasn't happy with not introducing 3/4 of the characters, or giving a real satisfying ending, or giving full answers to the things he had foreshadowed (like Min's visions). So he decided to make it a trilogy. And at the end of book 3, all of our main characters end up in the same place and it's a somewhat satisfying ending, except he still hadn't introduced most of the Forsaken, or the visions of Min, Perrin, and Egwene. So he added a scene to the end: "I don't think this was really the Dark One, it's just some guy". And after that, he knew it would be an epic, so he started formalizing the magic system, introducing all of his characters, and limiting himself to visions of things that had already been foreshadowed elsewhere.
@@rustygray5058 The Dragon Reborn was #3 and he was fielding calls from folks during the signing (Harriet played secretary). I was asking about those calls at lunch when he told me he originally sold it on spec as a trilogy, but he knew it would be longer. He said "a bit" longer. Then I asked him about his process because I had read some of the Conan stories as well. We talked about all the myth and world-building in Eye of the World- that he promised would be paid off- and I asked how much longer. He laughed and looked at Harriet. Then he said "the problem is I dreamed the ending first. Now I have to get everybody where they are supposed to be." After that tour, I would meet him at writing conventions. I always checked in after reading the next book. I helped him leave in a hurry from one. I was upset when I heard the diagnosis had gone terminal. When Brandon was hired, I went and found everything he wrote. I loved that he could write YA and then switch to high fantasy. I grocked that his world-building aligned with Jordans. My middle child has devoured everything and was one of the first on his kickstarter. I was glad to read the ending and loved hearing that it was Jordan's. The last bit of writing...
Piers Anthony was a wonderful man, too. My junior year in high school (A flea-speck institution literally situated between two cow fields) he came to speak to my AP English class (He lived about 20 mins from Dunnellon High)… His Incarnations of Immortality series are some of my favorite novels ever, and they meant a lot to me when my family was moving here from up north… Anyways, I told him about that talking after his talk, and just kind of wistfully said “Wish I’d have known they moved your talk up by a couple of days when I got ready this morning, I tracked down all the first printings, and I would have loved to have you sign them for me. I love how you can tell a serious, engaging story, and still be witty, funny, and snarky throughout.” “Got someone you could call to bring them here?” Piers Anthony replied. He waited half an hour without the slightest sign of impatience, talking with several of us aspiring writers the entire time. Being dryly witty and just…fun. The faculty tried to create a graceful out to “get him out of there,” but he was having none of it. Anyone can write, some people can write well, with enough earned sweat equity. It takes still more than quality storytelling to make a Jordan or an Anthony, though. Light bless and keep all such Authors, for they are rarer and more precious than all the riches of the earth.
Brandon Sanderson is a machine:). Doing interviews while writing autographs into his book:). Probably next to Stephen King one of the most productive writers out there.
This was THE GREATEST interview. So thankful Brandon picked up the torch and finished the series that I started when I was a kid. Godspeed and continued success.
I had always thought the scene with perrin/lanfear was odd, but i just put it down to brandons writing style being vastly different then jordans, its neat to find out there was a reason.
I thought the same but because the ending with Mat and Fain was equally as odd I just thought that’s Brandon wrapping things up. What a twist!!! Love it
My head canon for Rand lighting the pipe comes from The Matrix. The scene where Morpheus is explaning the power of The One to Neo. "So you're saying i can dodge bullets?" "Im saying when the time comes, you won't have to." Rand doesnt need the OP anymore because its just a construct, a rule, of the Pattern. He can see the Patern in a way like how Neo could see the matrix after his rebirth. He can manipulate it any way he sees fit.
I also really loved that EVERYONE had their part to play. We all have our contributions to give to the world. The children and old people had their part to play during the war, small as it seemed. Everyone and everything matters. Oh, how am I going to get through this weekend after this reading this glorious book 14?
Long-time WOT fan here, loved it from the first time I picked it up, and I have many fond memories of different volumes of the series. I wasn't sure how to feel, at first, about Sanderson being the author to finish up the series; I had not read any of his books prior. At the end, while it wasn't quite the same "voice", I did feel that Sanderson had captured MUCH of the spirit of WOT and he did justice to the series and its fans. I really think what makes this a success is the humility and respect that Sanderson brought to the project, which really could have gone in so many different directions. He truly seems to be a fan of this IP, and I felt that he was very sensitive to sticking to what Jordan would have wanted to happen. Knowing all these characters since the late 90's, I was greatly satisfied with how it all shook out. There were many EPIC moments. I also appreciated how fast events seemed to be happening! I remember finishing TGS a little wild-eyed and out of breath, so many things happened or began to happen. Pretty remarkable. This definitely reinvigorated my love for this series. Good job, guys :)
Agree with you on this. His work turned me on to his original work and in now a huge fan. The one thing I remembered thinking as I read the last books was that Robert Jordan had such a way of making the battles feel so amazing and really free me in. It wasn't the same with Brandon's work on these. He did amazing, but I wished the last battle had been fully written by Jordan. Having said that, this would have been SO hard to write the ending to and try to match up (somewhat) another writers tone and style. Brandon did a fantastic job. Like you said, a bit of a different feel is all.
Just finished reading the book on Jordan by Michael Livingston. Such a great homage to the series. It brought tears to my eyes reliving the series and it brought insight to Jordans life in Vietnam and his style of writing. I recommend all fans to read it. ❤️
1:01:00 I think that Perrin going to kill Mat would have been based on false information and that at some point he would have realized that and joined forces. Like maybe war preparations were done in Mat's name but he is actually doing all he can to stop it.
What a great conversation! Another re-read in the future, to see if I can gain the appreciation both of you have for Lanfear. Ive always dismissed Lanfear- in my humble opinion, once Rand loses his Selene crush, she has no hold on him and doesn't seem to affect much. Perhaps she's the most powerful, but other than removing moiraine, giving some assistance at the Stone, and turning Kadere into a large wine skin... Add to that, every single powerful person in TAR acts like they are the most skilled. Thus Perrins "it's only a weave" ending made sense to me. But clearly I've missed some nuance, or even things of major importance!
I would have loved some more resolution for the travelling people. Maybe we could see them learning the Song, maybe we could see some former Aiel integrated or half-integrated among them... That would have been great.
I’m fairly new to the series and have just finished it for the first time (shout-out to Daniel Greene for spiking my interest), but…what “sequel series” are they talking about?? Was RJ planning on expanding on the world or making more books? Is there any info on what they were going to be?
There is nothing else like “wheel of time” (for me atleast) , I am so thankful Brandon finished them so faithfully , just finished the entires series yet again , gets me every time.
I just finished , i read the last 7 in the last month or so because it just drew me in again so hard. I loved how this ended and loved every single part of it so much. It felt like every characters arc and role was so meaningful. Every book to me is great and I see how it all comes together here. How we seen all of them grow and each thing every one did just wraps everything up so much. As well as how they kept parts of themselves from when we first seen them. Gosh so much unexpected and so many amazing moments. It might be the most interesting, intriguing and fulfilling story I’ve ever heard of, so far. I’m just in awe Reading Stormlight next ☺️
hahaha this is so wholesome they had there own little secret about the wheel of time. No wonder he loves her the most, he was basically the ONLY one knowing her secret
I love this reveal! It's consistent with Lanfear's portrayal throughout the series to outwit her foes this way, and much better than such a powerful character, in a fairly deus ex way, being easily defeated by a surge of heroism at the last moment. Evidence, apart from being officially the strongest female Chosen: various characters repeat her claim to being the mistress of TAR, which is necessary to pulling off this play (but, tellingly, even smart ones such as Moghedien don't believe she is... Which is exactly what Lanfear would want, assuming it was true, and she was well-prepared for the trick); in this case, the fabled stories about her turn out to be true (nice subversion of the trope that most of the Chosen were overestimated); plus she did have the compulsion on Perrin planted way earlier in the series!
Egwene's death crushed me when I read it originally. I am crying now hearing about it. It was the perfect ending for her and so powerful. Loved this stream!
I missed the Live show but got to watch this a day late. Thanks @The Dusty Wheel for putting this interview together with Brandon. The Lanfear reveal was mind blowing and I know that it must have been tough to keep that secret Matt.
Great interview!. The final book is one of the best books I have ever read. Sanderson did a wonderful job wrapping it up. The cleansing of the ways would have been a give i thought since the taint was removed from power. If there had not have been a major sacrifice in the final battle it would have felt hollow. Egwene was a fantastic stand her sacrifice was handled excellent. I would be very sad if more books were written by someone other than Sanderson
This has been great. I've avoided all things online having to do with the Wheel of Time since the travesty of the TV show which takes my joy of Wheel of Time away. The books live.
@@thelakai7960 I regret to say that for myself, the show is filled with ‘obnoxious gender dynamics’, far more than what is in the books. It is, along with the abysmal storytelling and terrible pacing, among the main reasons why I utterly loathe the show.
Lanfear having the goal of taking out the Dark One by using his own power and resources is such an interesting eye opener. She's a whole 4th side together with Verin, next to the Light, the Dark One and the selfish human evil. It's like the opposite of the Whitecloaks: joining the shadow and using as much magic as possible to ultimately do good things.
This was fascinating to watch! I wish they were less coy about the other books. "there was a scene" "there was a character" in ToM: we're watching spoilers for the last book! We don't mind spoilers from earlier in the series!
While I don't pretend to Brandon's level of knowledge or immersion in the Wheel of Time, the impression I get of the overall structure is that book 8 is when RJ started making an effort to line up the pieces so the series could move toward an ending, but, by that point, things had got so tangled that, like any good Blacksmith's Puzzle, a lot of preliminary moves had to be made before things started loosening up and he could pull the key piece (the Cleansing) and then by the time we get into book 11, everything's lined up to rush toward the ending in a race against death...
When Rand is going over the things that Alivia has prepared for him when he leaves, he has the thought that she has given him enough gold to buy a farm. I had always assumed that was not an idle comparison. He always wanted to get married and raise a family on a farm. I assume that is what he does. Min presumably joins him very soon as she is not really tied down anywhere else. Aviendha and Elayne have responsibilities elsewhere, but they are both fully capable of travelling, so it shouldn't be a problem.
@@Shrouded_reaper Sure. But Min doesn't want to be part of the Seanchan empire and doesn't feel any duty to it. Aviendha and Elayne both are not only important in their respective societies but also feel a duty to their people. With Min, I don't think Tuon can make her stay. Even if she can't get away by herself, Rand, Mat, Aviendha, Elayne, or any number of Aes Sedai would probably be willing and able to get her free (Either by using the proper persuasion and leverage on Tuon, or if that doesn't work, just spiriting her away).
With Min's first viewing about how the sparks are all around the main characters, I always thought they would all be in the fight with the dark one at the end, but sadly they are all in different places and never come together.
I never saw that secret coming well done on holding on to that one. Its perfect as well as the ending works fine without it, but knowing it adds so much potential for any spin offs that RJ had in mind. I'm with Brandon I miss these characters so much, off to listen to "Wish You Were Here" by Floyd I guess :)
I thought the spanking of the forsaken was actually a great way to show the difference between them and how Egwene handled her humiliation and beatings in the white tower.
I did not get the Lanfear ending. I just thought that scene was an odd anti-climactic scene for Perrin and lost interest when I didn't understand. I don't think I ever got interested in Cyndane. But the whole off stage plot with Matt and Taylor is hilarious.
I guess I missed something about people not liking specifically how Mat was characterized. I think the only problem i had with the final three books was Perrin's trial - even though I did understand WHY it was there. And I did like the payoff when he's saving Galad from the ambush.
I finished the book series yesterday. Im still in shock fot Egwene she was my absolute favourite and i wanted the happy future. But she gave her life to save us all 😢

I'm in Path of Daggers on a re-read and want to refresh my memory before seeing these spoilers. I'll have to catch this later. See you in a month or two.
I managed to score a PDF of the Gathering Storm and got to read it a few days in advance of the official release. Granted, I also bought the hardback, but I find it funny in hindsight that despite all the efforts to prevent leaks, we still managed to get our grubby hands on a manuscript.
52:00 WHAT 3 BOOKS? I finished the wheel of time yesterday, so im new to this fandom to know anything Abou the epilogue, i think brandon could have it a little bit bigger... i wanted a pov of avienda saying amys how rhuarc fell and see how she reacts inside with the loss of her feet, and a pov of nynaeve mourning egween death.
Great stream, I loved every subject that came up and the level of detail spent answering every single question, huge thanks to you two! On another note...Although we will never hear it, I'd love Team Jordan + Sandersons' completely unfiltered opinions about the show adaptation, including the behind the scenes stuff that went/is going down.
I always thought that the only person who could contact Rand (besides his wives) was Perrin… and only in the world of dreams. So he becomes a mentor type persona, giving Perrin key advice the character needs at the right time- but only if he asks the right questions. Thus, the book becomes a quest for the right questions, because all the right questions HAVE answers.
I actually wasn't really surprised at all when Baal/Demandred showed up with an army of Sharrans. It was really frustrating how blatantly all of these intelligent people were ignoring the Sharrans, when all of the evidence they had pointed to every group having some sort of prophecy about Rand engrained in their entire culture. A lot of the other stuff you guys talked about went right over my head though.
@@christianrapper I don't know what you're talking about but I was referring to how Moridin had Lanfear's cour'souvra. Now Rand is in Moridin's body, he would have it. So it doesn't really matter that much if Lanfear is still alive. Rand has her life in his hands. And if he just accidentally shatters her cour'souvra, she becomes a mindless puppet.

Matt sat on this for YEARS!! 🤣 unbelievable!!
I just want to thank Brandon for giving us the best finish for the books, without knowing everything, that we could have possibly been given
The Lanfear scene always felt weird to me, it didn't fit but I never imagined she plotted it and actually survived, what a reveal! and what a legend you are Matt for having figured it out on the first read and kept the secret for a full decade!
I totally agree. The scene didn't seem to fit when I read it. Now we know why. WOW! WHAT A BIG REVEAL!
Agreed. Like her or not she's way too smart to let herself get screwed over like that.
I agree it was odd for her to be taken by surprise like that, however I'm pretty disappointed with 'he's not seeing what he thinks' while not having anything to indicate so.
Lanfear claimed it was her domain! She also claimed Rand was hers!
Yes they were so awesome and seemed to come out of nowhere at the end
Agreed.
Logain makes sense to lead the Black Tower, but I was totally flabbergasted when they attempted to make Cadsuane the new Amyrlin, she is a beacon for the old ways of the Aes Sedai and basically everything that was wrong with them.
yeah i really grew to love them too :)
Can't be
Way back when The Dragon Reborn, came out, I was Robert Jordan's liaison for part of his Waldenbooks tour.
My junior year in high school (A flea-speck institution literally situated between two cow fields) he came to speak to my AP English class (He lived about 20 mins from Dunnellon High)…
His Incarnations of Immortality series are some of my favorite novels ever, and they meant a lot to me when my family was moving here from up north…
Anyways, I told him about that talking after his talk, and just kind of wistfully said “Wish I’d have known they moved your talk up by a couple of days when I got ready this morning, I tracked down all the first printings, and I would have loved to have you sign them for me. I love how you can tell a serious, engaging story, and still be witty, funny, and snarky throughout.”
“Got someone you could call to bring them here?” Piers Anthony replied.
@@shawnpanzegraf5642 He was genuinely like that. His signings were slow because he wanted to answer every question.
1:15:00 I think that having Demandred's work in the east be a short story later published outside of the main books was the right choice.
Basically Lanfear was dealing from the bottom of the deck while telling us she was dealing from the bottom of deck and we didn't believe her.
Brandon Sanderson is a machine:). Doing interviews while writing autographs into his book:). Probably next to Stephen King one of the most productive writers out there.
I'm so glad demanded was such a surprise. Perfect "oh? ohhhh! Oh no!" moment
Love it
Agreed with both of you guy's, now I want to go over it again to see any other spots
My head canon for Rand lighting the pipe comes from The Matrix. The scene where Morpheus is explaning the power of The One to Neo.
"So you're saying i can dodge bullets?"
"Im saying when the time comes, you won't have to."
Rand doesnt need the OP anymore because its just a construct, a rule, of the Pattern.
Growing up is understanding that Egwene got a Brilliant send off...
Although "I WILL LIVE FOR CENTURIES" completely hoodwinked me...Brilliant scene...
what a ride - 10 years and you held on to this! My mind is going to be reeling for some time!
The transition in writing was seamless....you did a really nice job Brandon.
Just finished reading the book on Jordan by Michael Livingston. Such a great homage to the series. It brought tears to my eyes reliving the series and it brought insight to Jordans life in Vietnam and his style of writing. I recommend all fans to read it. ❤️
Brandon did a great job finishing series. A grateful fan.
1:01:00 I think that Perrin going to kill Mat would have been based on false information and that at some point he would have realized that and joined forces.
Like maybe war preparations were done in Mat's name but he is actually doing all he can to stop it.
One of my all time favorite series, thank you Brandon.
loved how this ended and loved every single part of it so much.
I’m just in awe
Reading Stormlight next ☺️
I haven’t read Wheel of Time, but I love this stream
hahaha this is so wholesome they had there own little secret about the wheel of time.
I genuinely expected her to become one of the heroes of the horn, seemed to fit given her affinity for T'A'R
@@alcidae nothing says she didnt!
"I dont know them , robert jordan does". Dammit, thats beautiful.
That was a fun listen. It's been awhile since I've spent time in the WoT universe. Brings back alot of good memories.
I am on book 4. I will come back to this when I have finished the series. Thanks for the stream gents!
I missed the Live show but got to watch this a day late. Thanks @The Dusty Wheel for putting this interview together with Brandon. The Lanfear reveal was mind blowing and I know that it must have been tough to keep that secret Matt.
That was a fun one!! Feels like the end of an era.
@@TheDustyWheel it sure does. Any further secrets we can probably only theorize on. Which actually sounds like fun and is right up your alley :).
Welp guess I need to start another reread. Thanks for another stream!
Oh, that's so cool and makes me love The Wheel of Time even more!
There is something therapeutic about Brandon signing away.
Great, now I need this hypothetical WoT sequel to happen, but it likely never will! I could scream, but it's 10 pm and people are trying to sleep.
I had always assumed that the woman’s voice that Rand heard was Alivia. I didn’t consider that it might have been Nakomi
YES, Mr Brandon did very well adjusting the notes to 3 books 😄 Great 👍 Job
Egwene's ending was bad ass. Hated she died but it was powerful and appropriate.
Wow, i admit to have been rolling my eyes on your Lanfear obsession, but now i get it!
This has been great. I've avoided all things online having to do with the Wheel of Time since the travesty of the TV show which takes my joy of Wheel of Time away. The books live.
Amen dude. I utterly loathe the TV series, but the books are, and always will be, IMMORTAL.
The books written by Jordan a solid middleground. The TV adaptation is mainly boring but at least it doesn't have the obnoxious gender dynamics
@@thelakai7960 I regret to say that for myself, the show is filled with ‘obnoxious gender dynamics’, far more than what is in the books. It is, along with the abysmal storytelling and terrible pacing, among the main reasons why I utterly loathe the show.
@@thelakai7960 "obnoxious gender dynamics" is a core component of how the whole wheel of time universe works because of the nature of the one power.
... Well I wasn't looking for a reason to begin my first re-read of the series, but here I am with several. Thanks for this video, gentlemen!
I love Nakomi. She is lovely in her enigma. 🌹
Lanfear wanted more power, and to be able to take over from the dark one. She just realized that was no longer possible, so shifted her endgame.
Just read the series a 2nd time 1st time round found i loved matt as my fav character 2nd time around i grew to love perrin
I have read all the books, but I'm still not sure if I want to watch this video. For me, it feels like seeing the autopsy of your best friend
I need closure 😂 and I find it helpful since I don’t have many ppl to talk to about it. I’ve read twice through tho, so that helps too.
Whelp...I guess I have a reason for another re-read now. Time for the Lanfear lives re-read.
One of your best podcasts ever!
Awesome Interview and reveal! Thanks a lot!!
mind officially blown. well done Brandon!
Please write a continued of the WOT because I got hungry for more 😢😢
If Aviendha's vision of the future was unavoidable it would go against Rand's revelation atop Dragonmount.
I’m going to have to reread…. Again.
Omg I don't want spoil anything for anyone watching but it's one of the first reveals and I can't freaking believe this person is still alive!!!!!
"Not really tied down" apart from you know being probably the second or third most important person in the Seanchan Empire.
I suppose they are all where they need to be within the pattern, they’re together in that way but not in close proximity
Bela's death was so sad 😥
I cried most for her.
1:27:30 Tuon tells Mat at the end of the Last Battle that she is pregnant.
Great stream. Could listen to these two guys talk all day. A fantastic back and forth.
Fun livestream. I appreciate all the confirmations on theories.
'Yes, that's good, that is what you need to do.'
Sorilea knew other uses for balefire than destruction. Perhaps the intended use,
Ahh this makes me want to do a re-read
I guess I missed something about people not liking specifically how Mat was characterized. I think the only problem i had with the final three books was Perrin's trial - even though I did understand WHY it was there. And I did like the payoff when he's saving Galad from the ambush.
I finished the book series yesterday. Im still in shock fot Egwene she was my absolute favourite and i wanted the happy future. But she gave her life to save us all 😢
i dont understand what they're talking about 1:12:30 with regards to mat? i absolutely loved his character in the last few books and it all felt on brand to him for me? would love to hear from anyone who knows what they're talking about there
I'm in Path of Daggers on a re-read and want to refresh my memory before seeing these spoilers. I'll have to catch this later. See you in a month or two.
this is so crazy... i feel like i need to go start a reread (or at least do KoD - AMoL) knowing this info
Theory: Lanfear made Callandor, flaw and all, so the DO could be defeated
I managed to score a PDF of the Gathering Storm and got to read it a few days in advance of the official release. Granted, I also bought the hardback, but I find it funny in hindsight that despite all the efforts to prevent leaks, we still managed to get our grubby hands on a manuscript.
That actually makes more sense as far as what Lanfear's plan was. Though I don't think everyone will be happy about it.
Oddly enough, I finished reading wot exactly on the 10 year anniversary, and I was looking for answers about some stuff, and found this today…
Welcome! And if you want, you can check out our Pipe Theories show, it was a lot of fun.
What a brilliant conversation, bravo!
I did think it was slightly odd and anti climactic when Lanfear’s plan is so simple and so easily foiled, no shade to Perrin
52:00 WHAT 3 BOOKS? I finished the wheel of time yesterday, so im new to this fandom to know anything
Abou the epilogue, i think brandon could have it a little bit bigger... i wanted a pov of avienda saying amys how rhuarc fell and see how she reacts inside with the loss of her feet, and a pov of nynaeve mourning egween death.
Thus, the book becomes a quest for the right questions, because all the right questions HAVE answers.
i love to see brandon writing while on the podcast, unlike other fantasy authors that don't write for 10 years
He's signing books, what a flex
I actually wasn't really surprised at all when Baal/Demandred showed up with an army of Sharrans. It was really frustrating how blatantly all of these intelligent people were ignoring the Sharrans, when all of the evidence they had pointed to every group having some sort of prophecy about Rand engrained in their entire culture. A lot of the other stuff you guys talked about went right over my head though.
Rand: hey, what's this strange crystal necklace my new body has... Oops, I just dropped it and it shattered. Oh, well.
@@KingOfMadCows I was trying to respond to a different post altogether. I did see your post though. I was wondering what you were talking about though so there’s that
Also makes you wonder what happened to Graendals one since they took her damane and they always destroy the damanes personal posessions.
This was delightful 😍
I’m gonna be honest for years I have had issue with BS, after watching this I like him now and think he done a great job not perfect but still great! Thank you. Another book or 2 before 14 would have been perfect.
Oh and Lanfear lives has completely taken me by surprise, she is that good to pull it off.
The paper signing was annoying though.
Now THIS is how you fill the drought
Obviously the microphone in Brandon's office is much better than at the actual Dusty Wheel where every guest or caller speaks normally and from you even at full level I just hear a whisper...
