One thing, the well of Ascension is preservation's perpendicularity. Ruin was trapped there but he was trapped there by preservations power. Ruins perpendicularity is the mines of hathsin
Sorry, super nerd here! A few corrections: 1, Elantris is planned to be a trilogy but is currently a standalone. 2, the well of ascension is actually in the Luthadel, and the Lord Ruler flattened the Terris mountains around it.
1- worrying about spoilers on such old work is ridiculous 2- If one don't want spoilers, why are they here? 3- here is one: The Spanish are going to start forcibly converting people, we are going to call it The Inquisition.
Also, it's not actually true that all of Sandersons works take place in the Cosmere, since it's "only" about half; Though you'd be excused to think otherwise, as most other authors don't even come close to writing half as many books as him. Generally, if a book of his mentions earth, then it is not in the cosmere. Examples include the Skyward Series, the Reckoners Series, the Rhithmatist, and Secret Project #2, the Frugal Wizards Handbook for surviving Medieval England.
This animated concept art style of covering stories like mythological documentaries is extremely cool .Very glad to have found this page and now it's time for me to dig into your archive of videos for more.
Mistborn series introduced me to Brandon Sanderson. A truly remarkable work. So far I’ve read 16 of Brandon Sanderson’s books including Mistborn Saga, Wax and Wayne series, Reckoners trilogy and the storm light archive and all of them delivered. Looking forward to the rest of the videos😍Good work👍🏼
If you really want to read the series fresh, please do not watch this video. A lot of the joy comes from uncovering the mysteries that are spoiled in this video.
@@brettmurray2473 My school library didnt have it. But I did get to see it fresh in Vin's eyes. I didnt know who Kelsier was, it felt like I was following Vin through her story up to the end.
Amazing video and great visuals, can’t wait to see more Mistborn and other Cosmire lore too. But one thing I think you missed out is the motivation of the lord ruler. Just the revenge against subjugation of his people is I think simplification of his motives. For me he was embodiment and devoted follower of Preservation. If we look at them, all of his actions are towards preserving something - an empire, his life, level of technology, state of society and world itself. If we believe that Preservation was a “good“ God following his ways would lead to better world, but instead it created something inhuman. So Rasheks motivations maybe was good (at least he followed his ideals) but he missed out idea that humans need Preservation And Ruin, stability and change to thrive. something like a balance, which is represented by Feruchemy.
Yes, exactly. This was the same mistake made in Hobbes’ Leviathan. Hobbes believed that chaos and ruin are the ultimate evil and therefore order and preservation, as it’s opposite, are inherently good. But by following preservation and attempting to create perfect order in a leviathan, as the lord ruler did, he creates just as much evil as if he had been following ruin. I think this is a really interesting concept; that both pure chaos and pure order are equally horrible. And humans need to attempt to maintain a constant balance between the two. I think Sanderson does a really great job of displaying this in the background of the Mistborn saga. As an interesting side note, I think this is also how humans define beauty. Something is beautiful when it is able to perfectly maintain the balance between pure chaos and perfect order.
Very well explained and amazing detail on animations as usually. You forgot to mention a super important action that the Lord Ruler did tho, and it's the moving of Terris mountains and whole region to somewhere else in the world and the placing of Luthadel exactly over the well of ascension.
Sanderson is the king of world building. Mistborn and the cosmere as a whole is a wonderous mystery, but also full of fantasy super heroes haha. Highly reccomend.
13:53 Not only is Rashek’s domain draconian but his servants are physically disturbing as well. Imagine getting this book adapted and showing the Inquisitors with metal spikes rammed through their eyes. Interesting that Rashek stopped Alendi’s prophecy only to take up the mantle and become the Hero of Ages (from what he saw it) and of course perverted the Hero’s role.
Nicely done, laying out the events in proper chronology and tying in the relevant motivations and psychology of the characters without getting bogged down. Much appreciated.
Just started Mistborn! The audiobook is SO GOOOOOD! A bit confused though about the order I should read the books, since they are quite a few AND LOVE IT!
If you're lost there's a bunch of infographics online on the "Cosmere reading order". At the end of the day it doesn't really matter the order BUT if you want an enhanced experience maybe you should try to read them in order 😁
Mistborn struck me as the perfect setting to set a game in. It was actually the second series I started reading by Sanderson. I jumped into the deep end with Stormlight. But I really loved Mistborn and I can't wait for the 7th book next week.
i'm definitely happy this is little by little introduced here by W&W. information in wikipedia is unitary and long, without separate articles for every book. (I did forget that there's a wiki version of rule 34, if a franchise exists, it has its own wiki page about it.)
Fun fact: As well as his own creation, Brandon Sanderson was also the one who wrote the final three books of the Wheel of Time series after Jordan's unfortunate passing.
You know what's strange. I always wondered why Sanderson wasn't known more because he's so succesfull. But now I'm seeing kings and generals and the likes making videos on his cosmere. I tried way of kings but wasn't a big fan. But I appreciate a fantasy author being so succesful
Great sum up. I am trying to convince my bf to read Sanderson and this helps a ton. Also perfect reminder for me after few years. Thanks a lot! Looking forward to next video. 🤘
Love your channel, and Kings and Generals! This promises to be a great series of videos. Would it be possible to cover events from the Dragon Age universe? There's a ton of material that could make for fascinating videos. Blights, Andraste's rebellion, Qunari invasion, Orlesian occupation of Ferelden, Mage-Templar War, etc. Keep up the good work!
