  • It can be hard to describe what playing Pokemon Red and Blue was like when it was first released, it felt a lot like playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild when that game was first released.

I started gen 1 last year with my 6 year old. She played yellow and I played red. I had never played a Pokemon before, but I was quite surprised just how much of a social game it really is. Comparing pokemon we had found and how different events unfolded (not to mention trading) was such a crucial part of the game. It's not nearly as fun by yourself. I had always thought that having two version of the same game was devious and self-serving for Game Freak, but it's an ingenious way to get people playing together.

My oldest daughter is 7 right now, I've had a similar experience, sharing a hobby with my daughter has been wonderful. 😁 Gamer Dads Unite!

I have yet to play BOTW, but I can super relate to playing red/blue way back when. Still have my original cartridge in a closet I think too. Think my best pokemon was an alakazam that I traded a friend for. My mom would always ask why when I would hang out with my friends why we would just sit there playing gameboys next to each other, hahaha.

The king on my team was always Snorlax, I thought Rest could get me through anything. And it pretty much did!
