In baseball, the highest stakes often turn triumph into heartbreak, where critical errors, questionable decisions, and star players faltering under pressure define unforgettable collapses. From Brooks Conrad’s defensive miscues in the 2010 NLDS to Gerrit Cole’s struggles in key postseason moments, these failures haunt teams and players alike. Defensive meltdowns, like the Yankees’ costly errors in the 2024 World Series, and managerial decisions, such as Kevin Cash pulling Blake Snell in 2020, showcase how one play, inning, or pitch can unravel a season. Stars like Clayton Kershaw and key hitters disappearing when needed most further amplify the agony. These moments, though crushing, embody baseball’s relentless nature-where resilience and redemption remain possible. The sport’s unpredictability and the opportunity to rise again ensure that even the most devastating collapses become part of its enduring legacy.

Looking at those plays involving Conrad, we have a runner complicating things,a running catch into the sun, and a fast wicked hop. No he wasn't the strongest dfender, but I'm sure anyone else could have made an error on them. Seems like bad luck to me. The death threats and way he was treated here in Atlanta were super wrong.

I was about 9 in 2010. I've loved the Braves since I was a little kid, but I don't vividly remember a ton of the moments prior to about 2013 aside from attending the 10,000th win, as I didn't completely understand the game until quite a bit later.
MAN is watching Brooks Conrad singlehandedly screw us over in that 2010 NLDS making me glad I don't remember that 2010 postseason very well (which is something I unfortunately can't say about the 2012 wildcard game, since I attended that game. I was inconsolable for days and have hated the Cardinals ever since). I would probably hate the Giants immensely if I actually did remember.
It makes me even more thankful I finally got to see them win a ring in '21. Even got to attend Game 3 of that World Series with my little cousin.

Tbh the worst choke of 2022 was the Mets in the regular season. They had a 10.5 game lead on the division. The braves who were below .500 at the All Star break. All the Mets had to do was not get swept at the end of the season against the Braves. And the Braves swept them. It is the 3rd largest blown division lead in mlb history.

2010 Padres should be on the list. Led the West for 148 days. Had a 6 1/2 game lead over SF on August 25th, only to miss the playoffs completey and lose to San Francisco in Game 162, when they clinched the West. Further salt to the wound is the start of their dynasty.

Asa Braves fan, the 2010 and 2011 meltdowns two seasons in a row, coupled with the 2012 “in-field-fly” fiasco in the NLWCS just was too much to overcome. After yet another 2013 post season exit, my love for baseball began to wane (while braves also sucked).
Sadly, I’m a sucker and let myself suffer 2019 and 2020 again, but I was far less of a hardcore fan by then.
