Wood Turning A Six Sided Inside Out Christmas Ornament

- This Christmas ornament is made from 6 staves. There are 3 Walnut and 3 European beech. You first turn the inside the flip the pieces 180 and then turn the outside. A very fun turning with lots of options.
Finished with Minwax Wipe On Poly

I have done 4 sided and 2 sided. I guess it's time to try 6 sides. It obviously works very well. Thank you for the demonstration. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
If you were to do a 6 sided those same pieces will work for a 3 sided which I have done as well.
I am planning another 4 sided one that should be interesting.

Well Gary, I must have missed this video earlier. Glad I found it since it provides me more ideas for my smalls wood turning gifts for Christmas. Christmas ornaments, tiny bird houses, pill boxes and gnomes are on the menu of things to do.

I remember the day many many years ago as an apprentice wood pattern maker looking at a drawing and seeing in my head what it was going to look like. That was a gift from God and it was a very special feeling.

Gary, you just keep teaching me. When I watched the first video in which you used hot glue to hold a piece to a waste block, I thought "this thing is gonna fly across the shop"! I would never have tried that, if I hadn't seen you do it first and that would have seriously limited my turnings. I have to admit that when I saw the small amount of glue you used to hold the ornament to the cup center, I cringed a little but I thought "it'll be okay because he has the tail stock support"... and, of course, you then took the tail stock away to finish the end. Thanks so much Shawn. Hot glue can sure be handy and for making these ornaments it works very nice.
I understand you cringing when you saw the small amount I used when in the cup center. For sure I got a feel for it while the tail stock was against it and could tell it was going to be fine.
If you decided to try it do it on something not so delicate or just a practice piece. The real trick is to let the gun heat up to full heat. Mine has a high and a low and I use the high. It is very strong but amazing how easy it lets go with a little denatured alcohol applied.
If you decided to try it make sure you are comfortable with the whole process.

Thank you Gord. Years ago I finished a roll top desk using pure Tung oil. A few years ago I tried some Formby Tung oil.
I will check into the Minwax Tung oil.
