What makes the ending of this movie so good is not just that we now have classic Peter Parker in his shitty apartment, struggling to pay rent, feeling lonely, making his own suit, etc. while being being a superhero, but that unlike other iterations of Spider-Man, THIS Peter wasn't just given a bad hand in life-he actively CHOSE it. For the good of the world, he CHOSE to give up his friends and mentors, CHOSE to give up Stark tech and money, CHOSE to give up his bright future. He sacrificed everything that made him the cool Iron Man Jr. and chose to be classic Spider-Man instead. That, to me, makes this the single most faithful depiction of the heart of Spider-Man we've ever gotten onscreen, even with all the crazy shit thrown in.

They took the time to give each Spidey a big moment that was significant to their character. Andrew is saving MJ as some level of redemption for Gwen. Tobey stops Tom from killing the Goblin since he knows what it's like to kill someone with vengeance in your heart, and finally, Tom makes a massive sacrifice in having everyone who loves him forget about him to keep them safe. This was such a good movie.

Also in the trailer is a Spiderman poster with the word Murderer written on it. In the new Spiderman Garfield says he quit pulling his punches. Spiderman is known to have enough strength to toss a car easily. That kind of strength would kill a normal human if used on one.
So the theory is that Garfield's Spiderman got to the point that he killed people when he stopped pulling his punches. The poster in the Morbius trailer is refering to the Garfield Spiderman.

Seeing Tobey in this film was the same magnitude as seeing Christopher Reeves in Smallville... maybe better. Reeves' accident was so tragic, that seeing him in the chair afterwards was just not the same. Seeing Tobey come back, was almost literally like seeing him come back from the dead. And he was perfect. They didn't try to un-age him, and make it look like he'd been pulled from his universe as a 20y/o college student. He was older, wiser, slower (as Peter). It was maybe my favourite movie experience of all time.

I also like how, in the other universes, Uncle Ben died because Peter was selfish, which makes them try to be better, but with Tom Holland, he loses Aunt May because he was selfless and yet he keeps going because it's the right thing to do. Very inspiring stuff.

And him being able to "produce his own web" is FAR from being an "aLphA sPiDey" lol imagine saying that with a straight face as that was just a creative decision that Sam Raimi came up with, FAR from being this "alpha" nonsensical notion.
And it's insanely nonsensical how you take a powerful emotional moment like tobey stopping holland's spiderman from killing green goblin to think it's some kind of "HURR DURR LOOK HOW AMAZING HE IS AS ALPHA HURR DURR", no bro, you've COMPLETELY missed the point of that scene entirely.

My only minor complaint was regarding the score. I did like how they occasionally used elements of the Danny Elfman, James Horner and Hans Zimmer soundtracks, but it would have been nice if these were used in a more prominent way. For example, the final battle could have weaved between the different Spider-Man themes depending on what Peter was on screen. Instead, they just used the new Spider-Man theme, with far more conservative use of the older scores.
This isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination. It just feels like a missed opportunity as this is likely a one time thing.

The fact that Tom Holland's Spiderman was dealing with being accused of murdering Mysterio made his desire to save the other villains in the movie feel more real.
He was being branded a murderer when he was innocent, so he was extra motivated to prove to himself and others that he isn't a murderer. I think that was a brilliant, subtle way to set up the main conflict.

Also, Tobey stopping him from murdering was great. Tobey murdered Goblin once and years later he regrets it. He was looking for a cure for Goblin for years even though he was dead. He also murdered the guy who killed Uncle Ben and he expresses how much that didn't help him and how he regretted that as well. So when he stops Tom you can see he truly means it. He is showing Tom that there is a better way. Murdering the enemy is what you think is the simple way out. But little do you know that it's thing that keeps bringing you back in. Killing is something even real soldiers are haunted by. I think this movie teaches a great lesson on mercy even in the face of the most vicious person alive. You can kill them and try to move on but what does that do to someone years later? You think you've solved the problem but instead it's the act that is tearing you apart.

In regards to the editing, I noticed the same things you did and I've noticed this in a few other movies that were shot during the pandemic as well. I'm wondering if they had to shoot in a way to keep actors distanced because of Covid restrictions and they just did the best they could due to the circumstances. A producer I work with told me that productions that are shooting during the pandemic have to carry Covid insurance which is 10% of the budget and there are other costs like having to keep medical staff on set at all times. Some movies may suffer a bit creatively, but I'm glad we're at least getting new movies.

Garfield has actually gone on record saying that he was afraid for Holland precisely because of what happened to him during his tenure as Spidey. So when he came on set you can tell it was because he knows, just like we do, that Tom Holland didn't get the short end of the stick and that Garfield was basically promised closure for his version of the character, which he got. As for Tobey's version... the 'It's complicated' bit about having a significant other really sticks to the idea that he's doing his damndest to balance out both Peter and Spidey.

Like it really was made to be a comic style too, it was unrealistic in a lock of aspects but not in a way that took you out of the movie. Besides X-Men (that came out a year or two before), there were no good comic book movies back then...well there were hardly any in general. Like Punisher came out in 2003 I remember, and that I found entertaining if others didn't (much better than the sequel). I really did not mind the two Fantastic Four movies besides Jessica Alba's awful acting...don't get me wrong, she was and still is GORGEOUS. But ya she was an awful awful choice for Sue Storm. But then again her and anything negative in those 2 movies looks like gold compared to the one they tried rebooting. I thought we’d get cameo teases, maybe a scene or even a “just in time” appearance at the final battle. But no. They didn’t just give us versions of the characters played by the previous actors. They gave us the *actual* characters for almost half the movie. From the moment Willem Dafoe said the meme line, I realized this movie was all about giving us what we wanted to see, and my goodness did they do it well. They gave the Peters entire scenes to banter and have all the discussions that fans have dreamt up over the years. They even took the emotional arcs from each character’s previous films and resolved them. Garfield catching MJ-something he failed to do last time that shook him to his core-and lingering on the emotion of that moment was one of the most moving things I’ve experienced watching any of the MCU films.
It was not a perfect movie, of course, and I can think of a few flaws. But once again, the MCU has delivered something I simply haven’t experienced before, and for that, it has a place in cinema history.

Honestly, everything about this movie was nearly perfect, to me. A movie that VERY EASILY could have just have leaned on nostalgia, they managed to make every one of those relationships feel meaningful and earned. And yeah, I HATED the Andrew Garfield movies, but this movie managed to address and completely redeem the, imo. I love that they address his Peter Parker had anger issues, and the scene where he saved MJ... honestly, that short little exchange between Garfield and Zendaya was beautifully written, acted, and shot. I actually *did* tear up when Zendaya responded to him, asking "Are YOU okay?", and you just see that look on his face. And honestly, turning Aunt May into "his uncle Ben moment" was both unexpected yet strangely fitting. And since we'd experienced so much with her character, it truly made the loss feel like a LOSS, not just "part of the story".
Both me and my father were both saying that we'd actually love to see Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker make a comeback again. Neither of us liked the first two movies, but this movie allowed us to see Andrew Garfield as a "real" Peter Parker, not being "edgy" or "bitter", not dealing with a terrible script (I never liked the "Peter's parents are actually super important spies" storylines to begin with).

I just saw it today and thought it was VERY well done. This is coming from someone that also saw all the Maguire and Garfield movies in the theater, along with every other Marvel movie. Most of my appreciation is probably leaning on the nostalgia factor but I was an emotional mess during the last hour of this movie. It had some flaws for sure with the jumping around and me thinking "how did that work?" but bringing all the memories back made this a masterpiece for me.
I'm 40 years old and went alone since my wife doesn't like these kind of movies and my five year old isn't ready for them yet. The guy I was sitting next to was also there alone, my age, and we both had a nice conversation when it was over. Part of our discussion was similar to what Chris said in this video about being able to witness all these characters come together.
I had a similar reaction when End Game came out. I was an emotional wreck watching that as well and can only hope the way these movies build up multiple stories and come together like this will continue.

I think a big reason why something like "I'm something of a scientist myself" works is because every other thing in the film isn't cheap. The villains have meaningful arcs in the film and aren't just quick callbacks to the previous films, and Tobey and Andrew both serve a meaningful purpose as supporting roles to Tom's Spider-Man. That allows the film to make those little jokes and not have them bring the movie down at all, because nothing else in the film is played cheaply for nostalgia.

Well the first time I watch the movie I thought it was wonderful until I watched it a second time, but with a more critical side.
The movie has some errors and many unanswered questions, such as:
How did electro end up on the MCU if he didn't know Peter's identity.
If electro ended up on the MCU even though he didn't know Peter's identity, So why didn't the two Harry Osborne and Eddie Brock (from Tobey's SM3) come to the MCU too.
if Doctor connorcs had been cured in the first movie (amazing Spider Man ) How did it appear transformed into the MCU? Was it a version of the past that went to the MCU? Or did he try to go back to being a lizard in his universe again? And if it was a version of the past, then why didn't the same thing happen to Gwen?
the Doctor Strange spell also erase the videos from computers, cell phones and the internet that revealed Peter's identity? He also destroyed the flash book ? If yes then he also deleted any and all documents from the government database, like their identity, birth certificate etc from Peter?
And the final and most important question :
If Peter is so smart, THEN WHY he DIDN'T ASK THE DOCTOR STRANGE TO MAKE EVERYONE FORGET WHAT MYSTERIO SAID?
I really liked this movie, but with these mistakes, it felt like pity was made to take money from fans through nostalgia
